Jordan Peterson - Why do you curse when your computer crashes?

  • In this lecture, he makes the case that we each inhabit a story, describing where we are, where we are going, and the actions we must undertake to get from the former to the latter.
These inhabited stories are predicated on an underlying value system (as we must want to be where we are going more than we value where we are).
In addition, they are frames of reference, allowing us to perceive (things that move us along; things that get in our way), make most of the world irrelevant (things that have no bearing on our current frame), and determine emotional significance (positive: things that move us along; negative: things that get in our way).

Too stupid can easily be remedied through learning. The reason you don't understand is due to ignorance. What gets in the way of understanding is reluctance, and ignorance. The only difficulty is derived from ignorance. Someone who understands something will not struggle with it. Unless they arrive at something they've yet to understand properly. Otherwise if they struggle they don't understand it yet. A common misconception, people believing they are truly powerless or born stupid...
I should also note the more interested or passionate about a specific subject the easier it is. If you force someone to learn something. Such as a class they've no interest in the subject materials. It'll likely be far more difficult for them at first if they are completely ignorant. As opposed to someone who is highly invested in learning said subject by choice.
This of course directly correlates with the methodology of getting someone to learn. To date their are 2 options you either force them to in some manner. Otherwise they have to choose to do so themselves it stands to reason. Forcing someone you need to cut off all other alternatives. Or at the very least convince them at the subconscious as well as conscious levels. To believe that learning X they don't want to is the best choice at present for them. It won't be nearly as effective as them choosing to do so willingly obviously.

Alec Hansem - We all suffer blackouts from plain old fashion faults and accidents. What is happening in Venezuela is systematic and caused both by internal political reasons, and externally by a huge country north of them who has never agreed with their "democracy" unless they had full control of it. There really should be no reason for blackouts in that country, if the world was a fair place.

My only problem with that is I only really do this with my mother and she either doesn't listen because she thinks she's right or she gets overwhelmed with facts and logic and tries to stop the conversation(without saying "you're right" or "I don't know" or anything) or she just tells me she's busy or has to do something or whatever she has to say for me to fuck off. With friends those are not arguments usually but deep conversations or debates and with some people I can(and did) literally go on for 10 hours so from the tiniest details you go up to larger and larger "divisions", let's call them, of your conversation and you can actually close it down.
I feel like if the person wants to talk you will remember what you were talking about and if you act like my mother the person doesn't really care and you will lose the train of thought.

You yourself don't seem to understand the concept of respect. You start of with the notion that "the boys" are these people that use "demonstrative ego fear based cursing that people do in front of their boys in a /disguised/ attempt to gain respect." and yet you're swearing up and down about "these cunts" and "fuck [my parents]!" and "be the knife that cuts through their... throats. You're demonstrably attempting to get people to gain what you think is respect for your opinion, through a slew of angry swearing, with the intent of creating fear and disgust, though violent imagery. I can only speculate that you believe the entirety of the planet has done you wrong, and you have become engulfed in resentment and hate to the point where you believe that what you are entitled to is the fear and suffering of others, whilst you allow yourself to act as if you're above it all.
You're right, the world is ugly and it isn't fair and it can be a horrible place, but it appears that it is you that needs to get used to it and get yourself straightened out because you'll find much more fulfillment in seeing what you could do to make it better, rather than harnessing all your energy into making it worse.

Just go to the Student Union Bldg. and have a cup of coffee and maybe a breakfast burrito (it was in New Mexico) and read the student newspaper (this was before cell phones and portable electronics). Try to come to class on time next time." (I'm paraphrasing, but not by much). Of course, his statement was dripping with sarcasm, and he would actually lock the door when it was time for the class to start, and would not let anyone in. Funny thing happened: people found a way (and the respect) to show up on time.

@@draugnaustaunikunhymnphoo6978 Nope, the reason it solves the problem is manyfold and *almost* never is indicative of a greater problem:
      1. the most common issue it relsoves is that RAM is inherently volatile memory that is prone to failure. If there is any significant surge, or a RAM gate is hit by naturally occuring radiation it can flip a 0 to 1 or a 1 to 0. A single flip can cause system wide instability (or even outright system crashes) depending on what is hit. Rebooting a computer dumps EVERYTHING stored in the system's ram and reloads it, getting rid of all of the errors.
      2. Memory overflow. If you are operating beyond the capability of the computer and the OS lets it get out of hand (without crashing the problem program) the whole system will crash as it runs out of memory addresses.
      3. Unstable programs or drivers. Many programs are stuck together with the software equivalent of ducktape and bailing wire.... how they interface with the hardware can cause a system crash. if this is a problem then it will cause the computer to have a chronic crashing problem.
      4. overheating or faulty components. This and only this means that there are serious problems in your future.

I mean 'tomorrow' as sometime in the future. Let's say you have dust and it overheats. Turning it off and on will fix it. But, that did not fix the problem. That's kind of the thing I meant.
Kicking an engine might put the right thing in the right place while loosening up some screws that can cause permenant failure later on.

I was mistaken and mistaken. It's OK to feel that nobody can help. Try anyway, just to prove me wrong. I was finally driven to it when I realised I had nothing to lose by seeking help.
