Thank you so much for such a pleasant tutorial to watch and hear, Your explanation and links to the stitches are excellent. I have crocheted a dish cloth, and after seeing how much these are to purchase, here I am going to learn how to make them for 5 grand daughters. Sassy Craft Sisters have them for sale and they are worth every penny, BUT I'm cheap, and I can do this. Thanks again for such clear pictures and instructions.
If I can do this, anyone can. You explain it so well Annoo and I love your work. I posted your video on Google o.k. I thank you so much for sharing. I have to make 4 of them for some kids and am so glad that you have here such an easy way to make them.
Be well.!
love it! i have been waiting to make one of these because i cant deside what stich i want to make it in. And i love the shell stich very cute. Thanks for sharing. God bless
This pattern was figured out and is in a comment below maybe 7 months ago, here it is for those who didn't find it:
MERMAID TAIL ruclips.net/video/A33RmatUb6g/видео.html
Pattern is written for 7-10 year old. TO ALTER SIZE: get the child's waist and waist to floor measurements and then adjust the pattern to fit those measurements, make a chain that fits the waist of your model, make sure you have a number that is a multiple of 6.
What you need: • Red Heart Yarn 2 skeins • 7mm hook • 8mm hook • scissors • tapestry needle Pattern for tail •
Using 8mm hook, make a slip knot and 60 chains (or circumference of waist - must be a multiple of 6) •
Place on flat surface (untwisted) • Round 1: ss with first chain, chain 1, make hdc in same chain, hdc in next chain* •
When you reach the end of the first round, hdc in first stitch of Round 1 (place stitch marker in first hdc) •
Round 2: hdc in each stitch* Start of shells •
Round 3:( skip 2 stitches, 9 dc in 3rd stitch from beginning, skip 2, sc in the 3rd stitch)* •
Round 4: (sc at top middle of the shell from previous round i.e. count 4 and sc in 5th dc from previous round, make 9 dc in sc from previous round)* •
Round 5: (8 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 5th dc of shell from previous round) * •
Round 6: (8 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 4th dc of shell from previous round) * •
Round 7: (7 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 4th dc of shell from previous round) * •
Rounds 8-14: (7 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 4th dc of shell from previous round) * We are diminishing the number of dc (every few rounds) to create the narrowing of the tail •
Round 15: (6 dc in sc from 14th round, sc in 4th dc of shell from previous round) * •
Round 16-18: (6 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 3rd dc of shell from previous round) * •
Round 19: (5 dc in sc from 18th round, sc in 3rd dc of shell from previous round) * •
Round 20-27: (5 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 3rd dc from previous round) * •
Round 28: (4 dc in sc from 27th round, sc in 2nd dc of shell from previous round)* •
Round 29-40: (4 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 2nd dc of shell from previous round) * •
Round 41: (3 dc in sc from 40th round, sc in 2nd dc of shell from previous round) * •
Round 42-45: (3 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 2nd dc of shell from previous round) * If you need a longer tail, repeat Round 42 until you've achieved the length you want •
Slipstitch into shell Use your tapestry needle to neaten up loose ends. Pattern for fin (crocheting in rows) • Using 8mm crochet hook, make a slip knot and 51 chains •
Round 1: hdc in 2nd chain from hook, hdc in next chain*, chain 1, turn around •
Round 2: hdc in back part of stitch*, stop 3 stitches from the end, chain 1, turn around •
Round 3: hdc in back part of stitch*, chain 1, turn around •
Repeat Rounds 2 and 3, until you have 22 rows
Make 2 of the above (for both halves of the fin) Watch video for putting the fin together and attaching to the tail.
here is the written pattern on my blog : www.annoocrochet.com/2017/01/kids-crochet-mermaid-tail-easy-tutorial.html
Loved this tutorial! I have made 5 of these in a month for the little girls in my life for christmas. I may try to make a couple more since I can do one in a weekend and not have to spend all my time on it. Looking forward to a couple more of your projects that I've seen since subscribing. Love love your channel.
Mytidbitz Rivera if I still had them I'd measure for you, you would definitely need to add extra rounds. I would add extra in the rounds with 6/5/4 DC shells to get the length needed. The girls I made for were a girls size 10 at the most, used two skeins of Caron simply soft at 6 oz/315 yds for the body so you would be using more yarn to get length. hope this helps!
Mytidbitz Rivera extra rows, sorry!
Mytidbitz Rivera in the directions she has so many rows where your shell stich has 6 DC, then so many rows with shell stich 5 dc, and so on...do a few extra rounds before you lessen the DC count of the shells, it will be longer between the decreasing rows. once you're actually working on it it will make more sense.
I love this pattern which I have made for 3 granddaughters. Been asked if I can make one for a 2-3 year old. How many chains should I start with or should I just use a finer yarn and smaller hook and use same instructions. Thank you.
What are the dimensions? My cousin is tall for her age (10) and I want to make sure it will fit her
I started this for my niece and did multiples of 3, ending with 69 chains as my multiple and it worked out perfectly from watching tutorial. I started one for my other niece and hers happened to be 60 chains, when I got to the end of 3rd row it didn't come out the same I ended the row as a SC where you end as the 9 DC I thought it was odd since you stayed chain 60 in instructions and it was ok to be a multiple of 3. I have had a problem with another pattern before so I drew the pattern out on paper and figured out what was happening to mine. It appears that to end the 3rd row with the 9 DC to start the 4th at the top of the first shell it had to be a multiple of 3 but it must also be an odd multiple of 3 so 60 chains doesn't work. Hope this helps anyone else watching the tutorial and reading comments that is having same problem! Happy crocheting!!
thank you so very much for posting this! i had the same problem using an even multiple of 3. thank again!! xo
TBACK2006 same problem here so I did one with 69 and one with 75 chains both worked out perfect. I was getting frustrated with the 60 thinking what am I missing lol
TBACK2006 was yours not laying flat? I am havi g trouble with this. I need to do 120 sc in the beginning and was reading in the comments that you need to do multiples of 3 but odd multiples only. Confused..
You could be crocheting to tightly.
Very much appreciated and I thank you.! I did the same thing with 69 chain.
Why does mine have huge holes for the previous SC with the 9 DC? Yours looks perfect!
Stjärntydarna mine does too.
with this one can it be made open like your other version? if so what do we do? just not go in a circle? would it still be multiple of 3s?
it is beautiful where can I find the written instructions. I will like to make it for my grandouther.

What type of yarn should i use?
How many yarn you need for a child of 6 years, for this mermaid tail ?
Hello 😊 I would like to make this for my 3year old great niece as a surprise. How big or how many chains would you recommend for a 3 year old? I am a beginner crocheter so I do apologise for the stupid question 😏 thanks 😊
Please can you tell me what size hooks you use, I am from the UK so I will do a conversion. I have ordered the yarn from Amazon it's coming today, can't wait to start! Xx
7 m.m.
Please help. I am trying to my waist length for 81. When I go around for the the first round of hdc will I have more stitches or should I continue to have only 81? Thanks in advance!
Hi, please do not have a written pattern for the mermaid tail.ThanksNancy
i am an experienced crocheter. Do you have this pattern written?
Roxanna Tice written pattern is in comments.
is there a written pattern for this as I am getting lost and have to keep stop and go the video and need a little help following along. Thank you
Is there a way to make this partially open in the back?

Hallo lovely Annoo. there is something wrong with the audio on your videos! we can hear de background music but not your voice with the instructions! I've checked diferent videos and is the same. Just letting you know! Greetings Patricia a fan from The Netherlands :) xoxo
Hi Jeroen...are you listening with your headsets? if so one side is the voice and the other is the music...so...maybe check if one of the side is not working...it happened to a few more viewers...let me know!!!!
Still wondering what the gauge is so I can use a different yarn
+The Cynergist So for a 5 inch by 5, I had 2 shells wide and 6 shells length I hope it helped!!!
Thanks Annoo
Any time!!!! Happy Crochet!!:-)
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm sure she meant to say chain 63. It has to be an odd multiple of 3 for it to come out right.
Do you have a tutorial for a shell bikini top for little girls (Size 6) to go with the mermaid tail?
oooh what a great idea....will think about it!!! thank you for the suggestion

So excited ! Finally someone doing the tail with shell and decrease! Thank you! I have a lil thought for you , there are many of us coming to youtube for tutorials ..from beginners to those needing a new idea and there are many as well with learning disabilities or issues, i for instance have trouble reading patterns and need the visual due to a brain injury. when you speed the video it makes it very hard to handle ,,for different reasons. ans the music is nice just to loud while your talking and showing.I just wanted to share that as you might have more followers if they are able to get what they can . I know you cant worry about everyone's needs but there are so many reasons peeps come to a video for help. Thanks again ! excited to get this done. will have to silent video and leave on pause but its a place to start I certainly didn't have 8*)
Seems like a great video I would love to watch this or one like it WITH OUT the music overlapping the instructions if anyone knows of any :(
Please do this exact stitch in an adult version? I wouldnt know how many rounds to do and how to if I was to try and make an adult size x
is it possible to do it open?
I think I can start always from the same side and in the second round I can start with a half shell...
I'm not sure if this will work.
thank you for help
Goood morning from Alberta Canada. do you have written pattern in english for this by chance please? if not how many shells did you end up with at the start of them? thank you!
such an easy tutorial to follow and the blanket comes out stunning. thank you very much
Thanks for sharing this pattern, I know a couple of grandchildren who will love it. You have such a beautiful voice for following instructions, well done.
How can I adapt this for a 12 month old?
hi! may i know how many skeins used for the blanket (legs) in total?
So I love the fin you designed but I just wanted to make it all one piece so at the ends of chain 20 I continued and chained 4 then turned and started stitching in second stitch continue all the way down. At the end of the chain going back down chained 4 stitches. Continued until both sides matched
I followed your directions on the video, pausing as I needed to, and just finished my first tail! LOVE IT!!!! Getting ready to start on a second one. The little girls who are getting them for Christmas will be over the moon!! I used blue yarn and then the same shade of blue only with a silver thread woven into it and it makes the tail shimmer! Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!!!
Thanks so much for the tutorial, now I can make one for my grand daughter!!!
LOLA A hope it turns out well for you grand daughter !!!!!
Alice Olsen Smith
It turned out like a blanket 😊I wish I can post the picture!

I debated for 15 minutes and decided to ask a question that I should get but don't. I am adding my 9 dc and they do not lay flat. I am making everything loose but they still do not lay flat. I want to make two fir my grandchildren but am ready to give up. I would appreciate help with this. Thank you so much
Me too
Why can I only hear music now? Last time I viewed this, you were giving instructions, now just music. And why do you not have the written pattern for the child's? All I find is the adults.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this...can't wait to finish my project, getting there. Thank you so much! Keep this fantastic video's coming...would love to see a SHARK blanket!
Thank You! My daughter had requested for me to make her a blanket. What a wonderful tutorial! At first I was intimidated in how to make one, but you made it so easy! I have a questions. My daughter is 5'7" and 36 waist. Do you think I need to adjust the pattern? What do you think about using a super bulky yarn by Bernat 10.5 oz 300g. I hope it would not mess the pattern up. I am still learning among the beginners. lol
Can any one tell me how long this comes out? I am wanting to make it for an adult someone with not so long legs only 5ft tall I may wish to modify it but need an idea of the length of the shells repeat pattern. I read the description she said age 7-10 so I’m unclear of the final length
Love your method of doing this....thank you for sharing and you got a new subscriber here!
How can I get a written pattern? You are a great teacher - thank you.
www.annoocrochet.com/2017/01/kids-crochet-mermaid-tail-easy-tutorial.html
This link doesn't work for me :(
do you have this pattern written out so that it can be printed? how much yard (in grams or oz) in total do you need?
Colin Junkin Scroll down someone wrote out the pattern. Comment is from about 4 months ago from Surekha Singh.
Hello
I have red heart super saver how can I adjust for sizing ? Thanks for your help !
May I know dimensions pls? I’m making for my 4-yr old granddaughter. Thx
I am trying to do this for my adult daughter using a multiple of 3 chain, using 108 stitches, but the pattern doesn't work out..... can you advise please on what I have to do
I just found this pattern and started one for my neice. I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I did 69. 108 should work. Watch the video at 4:40. After the first row of shells, there will be 3 chains left, skip two chains and work your 9 dbl stitches into the third chain, just as before. It will end up looking as if the last shell is on top of half of your first shell.
Ft his is the prettiest one yet a lot of work but really pretty
Thank you
a tip for not getting a twist on the first row link is to crochet a few cm mayne ten or so st then to remove your hook slip it through the first st you made straigten the row and pick up the last st you made then keep crochetting this way you end up with no twist in the row when you loop it.
quick question? I don't have a sz 7 hook. What other hook size can I use to make it pretty much how yoirsn looks?
u did 120chains for my grandbaby mermaid blanket so far so good and still following pattern will show pic when done and shes 6yrs old
i did 120
Me too but mine is not kaying flat. Any tips cause i am following direction
this video would be better without music so I can hear what you are saying. Very nice but hard to hear you
How many chains is typical for an adult size mermaid blanket?
Her other mermaid tail video she did in an adult size :)
Depends on the size of your waist. She said in the beginning of the video you should messure it by putting it around you models or your own waist.
İ loved this version of the blanket .... İs there a way to make part of it open??
Finally. A tutorial I can actually follow. Thank YOU!
Has anyone made this using the 60 stitches to begin? Can you please tell me the waist measurement at 60 stitches and the length that the tail came out? My granddaughter is very slim and has a 23" waist and is 8 years old. I had to chain over 80 stitches to get to her waist size! How long a tail does the basic pattern make? Knowing that would really help me decide how many rows to add to get to 32-34 inches length. Would really appreciate your answers! Thanks!
I was looking for the measurements as well. Did you ever find your answer?
Beautiful work. I've been searching how to crochet the mermaid tail blanket and finally your the best teacher I found step by step thank you so much for your tutorial 😊
+shelly shelly You are so welcome!!!!!! Happy Crochet !!! ;-)
do you think it would be fine in the end of the tail, to not sew the ends shut? like idk if i make sense haha, but basically instead of bunching the fin together, i sew the ends of it, so its like a fin pocket? its 2 layers? then i connect the fins and the tail? so i can put my feet in in the fins if i wore the blanket hahaah
Love this idea!!! Fin Pockets!!! ;-))))))
I did that but I think next time I'll take an extra long thread to sew them togheter because it isn't as beautifull turned inside out. (Luckely it was a test) But I'm still quite happy with it. Oh and I put an elastic in the opening.
I am having a terrible time attaching the fin. The video is not very clear. I currently have body attached to the fin but I am at a loss as what to do next to get it all to bunch up. I am pretty sure I have watched the video about 20 times 😢😫
+Darcie S It can help to bunch the fin up with thread or wool before you sew/crochet it to the tail. If you understand what I mean.
Evelien2301 but if you bunch it up it would defeat the purpose of letting it kinda be a sock for your feet :')
how can i make this bigger ? 14 yr old size
how long did this take? i have about a month to make it by christmas and was wondering if that was enough time
I'd say that's plenty of time. I've made a few now & they take me about three days.
I'd say that's plenty of time. I've made a few now & they take me about three days.
hello I love your work!!! is there any way you can have like a written pattern also so we can follow without the video it would help me a lot thank you
+Lupita López sorry Lupita no time for a written pattern yet...maybe this summer when I have a little extra time !!!xoxoxo
aw im in love im making it i cant wait to rap it up!
Hi Annoo,
Are you in America or the UK? Reason why I ask is because I cannot find a 7mm crochet hook anywhere by me, Hobby Lobby, AC Moore or Michaels. Wondering if they may have this size overseas. Can you use 6.5 instead? Please let me know. Thank you so much.
Eniko
Is there a way to make this an open lapghan, instead of a complete circle around your legs?
I made a open one, but the shells show up different from going across to going in a round. I don't know if there's a way to fix that. You can tell the difference.
I love this pattern. I just completed one for my granddaughter.
+Eleanor McNeal ;-)))) yes!!!! It makes me very happy!!!
How long did it took to crochet this?
Can you adapt this for a loom?
How do I get my project to lay flat.p? I crochet 120sc in the begning. I unwinded everything, thinking I missed something. Then it happened again! Thank you. I have been watching alot.
On the little mermaid sea shell tail when I start a new row each time am I supposed to end up in the same spot on the single crochet on the top of seashell every round I am having a hard with this pattern any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?
+Karyn Jackson On one round you start on the sc on top of the shell, and on the next you will start on the shell itself since you are alternating...as I said in My tutorial stitch markers are your friends...:-))) hope it helped
💖💖💖
Does it work with 93 or 99 chains? Because I'm having trouble with the 1st round of shells...
In the beginning of the instructions, there is guidance regarding making the tail bigger or smaller which indicates that you need to do this in multiple of 2's in between decrease rows for desired length. Should these multiples of two occur after rounds 43 and 44? Or in between other decrease rows also? I need to make the pattern longer, but if I continue decreasing after row 44 won't it make the fin too small? Thanks in advance for your help.
Thank you Anoo crochet design
I am wanting to make one for a newborn how small of a chain would I use ? I'm new to crocheting and your mermaid tail tutorial is the best i've found for my skill level.
+sweety72665 make a ch that fits the cute little waist of your newborn...and I would probably begin to decrease after the first round of shells..Happy Crochet this should be the cutest!!!!;-)
Thank you
I cannot find this written pattern anywhere but it's okay I wrote it out as I watched you. I love the texture that the shell stitch gives it. Thankyou. Now all I need do is work out the sizing for my almost three year old granddaughter :-)
what do you mean by multiples of six I am wanting to do this for someone who is 5 feet 3". How many chains would I start with would chaining 120 be two many and how many rows would I have to do in between decreasing?
After several attempts, I have to keep starting over, because it twists. I do it just as you say, but it still twists. I would love to make this for my Granddaughters, have any suggestions? Thanks for the video, I love all your videos. I just got finished making the blooming flower pillow and I love it.
pizsiilkepg music grandmother Christmas hope you have a fun day dear Liliana Carol and Larson happy your ear Happy New Year hope you have a good Christmas
Yes i would love a pattern of this but i want to make for a four year old girl is there any changes i could make or leave out to do this and if so do you have a free written pattern any where ?
www.annoocrochet.com/2017/01/kids-crochet-mermaid-tail-easy-tutorial.html
do you have a link to the net pattern that you mention at the beginning of this? also, do you happen to have a pattern to make this for a doll size? something that would fit the American Girl dolls? I'd love to make 1 for my niece and a matching 1 for the doll I'm getting her for Christmas.
Is there a pattern in the crochet shells tail for an adult pleeeeeease??
Is there a link to the written pattern?
yes I would love a written form too please
Yes, please I would love the pattern!
Beautiful work
annoocrochetworld.blogspot.com xoxoxoxo
This looks fabulous, thanks so much for sharing, I have tried the link above to your domain but there seems to be a problem. Are you able to clarify to email to feewerch@gmail.com xx
sorry I meant to ask for the body part, not the tail.
I don't really know what I'm doing wrong, I'm on like my 10th row and it's still very short, it's like maybe 3 or 4 inches long. Any suggestions?
Is it possible to change the gauge on this pattern to fit a number 5 bulky yarn? I'm new to crochet and I was just wondering if it would be faster to knit this pattern with a thicker yarn.
How can I get a copy of the printed pattern without downloading some new system for my computer that I do not trust.
www.annoocrochet.com/2017/01/kids-crochet-mermaid-tail-easy-tutorial.html Happy Crochet
I watched this a few days ago and everything was fine. Now there is just background music and I can't hear you talking :(
Super disappointed!
Hello! I would like to make a few of these blankets for my cousins. I have a few questions 😊
How long is the tail if you measure without the tail? Is it about 30 inches long?
When I make one for a 3 year old, do I also start with 8 stitches for the scallop or should I start with less?
Hello Annoo I was wondering if you could please tell me where you buy your wooden crochet hooks from? Also, I have been noticing that lately in your videos your necklace could you tell me if it is a diffuser necklace and if so where you bought that from as well please?
Please go slower! I couldn't see which stitches you were going into, even with you saying it. I'm more of a visual person, but this was too fast :(
I would like to know if you can use the shell mermaid pattern for an adult size and also how to do this? also, my daughter wants one that is higher than the waist and comes under her arms? thank you :-) love your patterns!
I've never heard of a 7mm crochet hook. I do have a 6.5mm or size K. Will that work the same for the fin?
Here Margaret in case you ever would like to acquire one...;-)
www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=7mm+crochet+hook&tag=googhydr-20&index=arts-crafts&hvadid=64921038133&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16502853282199824446&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_8v3sghokcc_e
But 6.5mm would absolutely work. Happy Crochet!!!
The sound is off on your videos you go too fast and with the accent is hard to understand you!
Do you have a written pattern for this! Absolutely beautiful!
+Lill Bit
I created this from the RUclips video, so that I could create the tail offline - I'm hoping it's accurate. You're welcome to use it (tail only, not fin)
What you need:
• Red Heart Yarn
• 7mm hook
• 8mm hook
• scissors
• tapestry needle
Pattern for tail
• Using 8mm hook, make a slip knot and 60 chains (or circumference of waist - must be a multiple of 6)
• Place on flat surface (untwisted)
• Round 1: ss with first chain, chain 1, make hdc in same chain, hdc in next chain*
• When you reach the end of the first round, hdc in first stitch of Round 1 (place stitch marker in first hdc)
• Round 2: hdc in each stitch*
Start of shells
• Round 3:( skip 2 stitches, 9 dc in 3rd stitch from beginning, skip 2, sc in the 3rd stitch)*
• Round 4: (sc at top middle of the shell from previous round i.e. count 4 and sc in 5th dc from previous round, make 9 dc in sc from previous round)*
• Round 5: (8 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 5th dc of shell from previous round) *
• Round 6: (8 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 4th dc of shell from previous round) *
• Round 7: (7 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 4th dc of shell from previous round) *
• Rounds 8-14: (7 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 4th dc of shell from previous round) *
We are diminishing the number of dc (every few rounds) to create the narrowing of the tail
• Round 15: (6 dc in sc from 14th round, sc in 4th dc of shell from previous round) *
• Round 16-18: (6 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 3rd dc of shell from previous round) *
• Round 19: (5 dc in sc from 18th round, sc in 3rd dc of shell from previous round) *
• Round 20-27: (5 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 3rd dc from previous round) *
• Round 28: (4 dc in sc from 27th round, sc in 2nd dc of shell from previous round)*
• Round 29-40: (4 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 2nd dc of shell from previous round) *
• Round 41: (3 dc in sc from 40th round, sc in 2nd dc of shell from previous round) *
• Round 42-45: (3 dc in sc from previous round, sc in 2nd dc of shell from previous round) *
If you need a longer tail, repeat Round 42 until you've achieved the length you want
• Slipstitch into shell
Use your tapestry needle to neaten up loose ends.
Pattern for fin (crocheting in rows)
• Using 8mm crochet hook, make a slip knot and 51 chains
• Round 1: hdc in 2nd chain from hook, hdc in next chain*, chain 1, turn around
• Round 2: hdc in back part of stitch*, stop 3 stitches from the end, chain 1, turn around
• Round 3: hdc in back part of stitch*, chain 1, turn around
• Repeat Rounds 2 and 3, until you have 22 rows
Make 2 of the above (for both halves of the fin)
Watch video for putting the fin together and attaching to the tail.
+Surekha Singh hi could you send me this to my email please? Yahairaocana@gmail
+Surekha Singh
Thank you for the written pattern. Very easy to understand :-)
Nancy Saiz how did you get the written pattern
May I have the written pattern as well!? Please? Jen.glz79@gmail.com
I'm also wondering if you have a written one. It's hard to write instructions while trying to watch the tutorial - I keep making mistakes :(
I'm a little confused on first round of shells in her video shouldn't it end in a sc. instead she does another shell(it looks like). would that make it 10 shells or 11 shells in first round?
Very nice of you to share it's beautiful!
