  • My invitation to you today is simple: to take your story seriously. Engaging your story is the single most important thing you can do to experience healing. When I say “your story,” I’m talking more about the individual scenes than the overarching narrative of your life. Your stories-particularly your stories of heartache or harm-have shaped your brain more than anything else. Which means that your past stories are shaping your present life more than you may realize.

My therapist suggested I listen to your podcast series in February, which led to engaging in my story. Through parts work and story work, shalom is within my grasp. May God bless you and the work you do in His name.

What do you do after engaging with your story? I have been listening to you and trying to do a lot of story work for many years now. I feel like I've uncovered so many experiences, I've written so many scene-by-scene moments that I've been through. I feel like I know most all of the Reasons WHY my brain and body and spirit are at the places they are, but I have struggled to make any meaningful change based on what I have learned. If anything, I feel like my story has given me a tendency towards passivity in making change since it gives me so many "good reasons" to act this particular way. "I am triggered by this childhood memory, that's why I won't do ____." Would love to hear your thoughts on how to breakthis mentality, or any related resources you might have, your words have helped me through a LOT.

Sounds so familiar … SO familiar … the circle that never ends; the idea that ‘there is a reason’ … gives legitimacy and some renewal of hope. This is the best description of story, and impact; desire and disappointment; response and trajectory; that I have heard to date! Thanks so much for this!!
