The Eagle has to be one of the best Sci Fi space ships ever used in a show so versatile and great looking. The cast, the stories and the adventure was really great, it is such a shame the Americans were given control of it for season two as they lead it down the path to ruin.
You should check out the video on RUclips behind the scenes footage of how they made the mighty eagles fly, takeoff / land, and of course, crash~! ruclips.net/p/PLw9rkjiVaa3G59f4S2bl5rfZQlQT-I1Ni
Thank you so much for sharing your personal connection to the show! It's always great to hear how shows like Space 1999 can bring people together and create lasting memories. I'm glad that you and your mom enjoyed watching it together and that it holds a special place in your heart. And I couldn't agree more - it definitely ended too soon! Thanks for watching and for your comment!
One of my all-time favorites. My favorite aspect of the show was the style of set designs -both interiors and exteriors. Beautiful, elegant, futuristic but realistic at the same time. There have been rumors of a reboot, for many years, but there seems to be no real interest from the part of the “intelectual property” owners. If they ever do a remake, I hope they stay faithful to the original set designs and style.
Thanks for sharing your love for Space: 1999 with us! We think the show was ahead of its time in many ways, and the set designs were no exception. We're also keeping our fingers crossed for a faithful reboot that does justice to the original's vision.
I loved the show when it was first on. The First season was very much influenced by 2001: A Space Odyssey, while the second was a bit more like Star Trek with more action and the addition of the shape changing Maya. As a kid of eleven I preferred the more exciting second season while as an adult science fiction fan I now prefer the first. The first season is one of the only shows that might be labeled "Hard Science Fiction" .
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on my Space 1999 video! I completely agree with you that the show underwent a significant transformation between its first and second seasons. The first season, with its emphasis on hard science fiction and thoughtful exploration of philosophical and scientific themes, is a true gem in the world of science fiction. That being said, I can also understand why as a kid, you were drawn to the more action-packed and exciting second season. With the addition of the shape-shifting Maya and a greater emphasis on adventure and action, the second season definitely had a different feel and tone from the first. Ultimately, I think the strength of Space 1999 lies in its ability to appeal to a wide range of audiences and age groups, offering something for everyone regardless of their preferences. Whether you prefer the thoughtful and cerebral first season or the pulse-pounding excitement of the second, there's no denying that Space 1999 is a classic of the genre that has stood the test of time. Thank you again for watching and commenting on my video. I hope you'll continue to explore and enjoy the rich and diverse world of science fiction, and that you'll join me for more exciting adventures in the future!
Loved Space 1999 as a kid. Shout out to the show UFO that was also created by Gary Anderson as well and proceeded 1999. A lot of the Graphic design and production design was taken from the never produced second season of UFO and used on 1999.
