This video accompanies me on a tour for one of the most insane fish in reef tanks - cuttlefish. With a specially built aquarium (setup see below) and an individual aquascape we find it. Besides Tobi from Regensburg has two of these animals.
Technical list:
Dennerle Bio Circulator
T5 Dennerle Nano Marinus lightning
You are welcome to check out the beautiful Instagram account from Tobi to see more of his insane setup: / tobis_reef

This new channel offers you the opportunity to collect ideas around the topic of sea water aquariums. It shows the spatial and technical possibilities to set up your reef tank at home in the living room, bedroom or office.
For this we travel through Europe to capture the perfect pictures for you.
So please enjoy and best regards
Tobias Neyer
I used to care for cuttlefish at a large research lab. They were lots of fun, you can make them do mazes, eat all sorts of things, they fight, dance, change color and texture, and are in general very interesting. They dont live a very long time I believe (like other cephalopods), and you need to be careful which species you get because some can get BIG.
Thank you for that feedback!! Yes absolutely, I will find some more informations about the different species. Would love to keep them myself :P

Hi mate. I’m doing a tank on European cuttlefish and going to be hatching them, what did you feed the hatchlings?
@@spencermarchant9098 baby brine shrimp for the offsprings for newly hatched cuttlefish, other small live food like live mysis shrimp will work good for the first few months. i think the baby cuttlefish might refuse frozen foods
How long do they live for
Great footage! I used to keep Sepia Bandensis about 10 years ago. They were so much fun to keep. Only downside is their short lifespan.
Yes you are right! I am thinking about to buy them :D
@@seafriendlyreef Most important thing is to have a good source of live food. Not just the shore shrimp they eat as adults but more importantly mysid shrimp for them to eat as babies.
@@captivebredcanada Yes that's right!! nice tip
I used to keep them too very interesting creatures and I will keep them again some day.
Dude keep it to a Fish Tank we don't wanna see you working out
Dude we don't wanna see you writing here
Hey ive never kept a cuttlefish before. Or any fish really. Is the cuttlefish good for a beginner pet. Their so alien like and amazing i would love to have them. Are there any species you would reccomend
Feel free to check my video about that topic: ruclips.net/video/Y8OBrlE-Ivs/видео.html
Super hope even I will be having a cuttlefish
Me, too :D Than you for that feedback :)
Me too
My cuttlefish just died after 15 months, he/she is the smartest tank creature I ever owned he/she always recognised me and very curious, it's literally a tank dog. I got attached to it only to realize that he/she only live to maximum 3 years and I catch him/her at age of 9-12 months old. Not recommended for people who easily get attached to pets.
*hugs*
Sounds like a powerful experience. Perhaps breeding them could be a good idea. Yes many will pass and you'll have to deal with the cycle of life and death, but birth and renewal and seeing them grow too. We all have to die someday and will lose our parents and friends. Perhaps this will give you strength in being a part of this cycle, it is slower for us but for them they were with you for an entire lifetime. Your cuttlefish knew you for half of its life. Let it live a worry free life. Where it could ponder its existence. Did you know they're color blind and change color even in pitch darkness? They know something about the universe that we do not. You got to experience this for yourself with them.
Ich habe schon ein Aquarium. Jetzt möchte ich noch eins mit einem Sepia. Welche Spezies ist das? Weiß es jemand??? Falls ja, vielen dank😁😉
Das hier sind die Stumpfdornsepien ;)
and by the way when is your cube tank uptade comming the 75cm cube waiting for it.
Yes even I am waiting for the update
It will take a while my friend but awesome to hear that you love my cube :D Next weeks there some other projects I would like to show you first ;)
hope that's okay for you
much love
Tobi
@@seafriendlyreef OK
They tatsy with some lemon and butter🍳🍋🧈🐙
One of the coolest videos I have seen lately! Not only the fish but the super lush macro algae. 👍x10000
Niiice! Thank you so much for that feedback! My heard turns into red while reading that ahah
this is too small for cephalopods to be in, youre going to make them depressed more than they already get in captivity, this is animal cruelty
Proof?
I wish the lifespan of cuddle fish were much longer, I've seriously been tempted to do a flamboyant cuddle fish but I just can't stand to watch such an incredible animal not live its natural wild life and reproduce and pass on more offspring! Nothing against anyone who has done this I just get sad when a beautiful specimen I house passes. I take great pride in the reef hobby and respect the beauty of the worlds oceans!
Nice feedback, thank you so much for it :)
@@seafriendlyreef no problem :) thanks for great educational videos!

@@ericsfishingadventures4433 you are welcome buddy! :D
@@seafriendlyreef sorry for the double reply lol I'm on my mobile phone, it's easy to hit button to many times lol
Very good! You can show more animals different like this. Awesome.
Thank you so much, that's very good to know! :D
Something very European about randomly putting sparring at the beginning of a video about something unrelated like aquariums.
like a sea butterfly that can only live 1 or 2 years, that’s gotta suck you’re close with it, obviously a reef tank not freshwater, so what kind of plants are those? They don’t look like corals what kind of plants you growing in there?
super idea
Thank you!!
Really interesting aquarium.
Absolutely, great hiding places :D
thank you!
Love Tobis aquariums and you do such an amazing job at showcasing them! Love it! Beautiful video!
Thank you so much Emmanuel! so you would say some more species profiles? :)
@@seafriendlyreef yeah sure! They are always so interesting!
Funny intro lol. Super cool and unique nano tank! Your videos are so enjoyable to watch and I am always looking forward to the next one. Cheers!

This is very good moment, spend time to living these cephalopodas.

und na klar Deckung ist immer oben ;)
Liebe Grüße

only 1 year life span? that is very sad..
JAK ZAWSZE CIEKAWY FILM POZDRAWIAM 🐠👍
thank you!! :D
Can you use fluval tank evo 13.5 for this?
Bro that was awesome! On Instagram this aquarium looks so much bigger! very cool!
Thank you Chris! Yes it is very small but you have to search them also in that tank sice for hours haha
Nice pad work at the start bro
Hahaha thank you buddy!
OMG! first time ever that I saw that a animal in an aquarium 😱😱😱
Nice! It is such an awesome creature :D
But where can i get one??
THAT ANIMAL IS WAY TO SMART TO BE IN A SMALL TANK LIKE THAT
jace innis yes smart enough to know it doesn’t need to worry about predators anymore and gets spoiled
You're not smart enough to even understand your own complaint
Cuttlefish so adorable 😍😍😍
güzel
I am living in germany and I would like to get a cuttlefish aquarium. where should I look in this country? any recommendations?
And good fighting gyms. perfect video lol
Haha my gym is the "No Fear" in Gelnhausen :D
And yes ordering cuttlefish is not that easy, I think the best way is to check out some Facebook groups for getting some breedings :/
Ich habe noch nie etwas zuvor von diesen Tieren gehört 😂👌. Wieder super Video
Na um so besser hahaha
Dane dir für dein Feedback :D
liebe Grüße
Is that all macroalgae?
Huhu, Lustige Gesellen 👍. Danke für die Vorstellungen.
Danke Daniel fürs Feedback ;) Ich bin auch super begeistert :D
Fantastic video! I love my cuttlefish, I need to get more macro algae though, I really like that look.
Thank you so much for your feedback!
This was another amazing experience! Thak you!
Thank you John! Love to hear that! I see, that those videos have not the most views but I think it is important to get something new on the channel ;)
Can you breed them or are all of them catches from the wild?
You can also breed them :)
Awesome video 😍.

Cool ! ! ! I like the length of your vids too . Not to long .
Thank you so much! Yes I love the short overviews ;)
What kind of plant life do you have? I’ve been seriously looking at setting up a cuddle fish tank?
These are algae :) Caulerpa
The macro algae is just as beautiful as corals in my opinion
yes they are super fresh! :D
Lmao speak for you and u only then lol
"in my opinion"@@kevinjames1622
Einfach nur WOW 🤩
Danke dir! Wunderschöne Tiere oder? :O
I heard octopus is really hard to keep because they like to escape/commit suicide. Is it the same with cuttlefish?
No to so easy like octopus ;)
Nice boxing intro haha. Amazing cuttlefish
Haha than you!! YES they are so insane :D
Where can you get one?
Cooles Format👍
Danke dir, freut mich sehr! :D
Looking into greatly changing my tank and only keeping a few medium to larger fish that are too big for cuttlefish to eat and getting a cuttlefish not yet but maybe soon if I don't go away for college.
Nice! I also thinking about keeping them :P
What is the adult size of this species?
That species is about 12cm :)
Perfect! Would they eat seahorses?
@@insanity4224 They absolutely would! They eat everything they get. Even crabs and fishes are on their menu.
