Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer-Home Cuttlefish survive by being able to blend into their surroundings through camouflage .Richard Hammond puts this to the test and experiments if the fish are able to camouflage in a tank set up like a living room.
In the final episode of Richard Hammond’s Miracles Of Nature, Richard is once again investigating the extraordinary super-powers of the animal kingdom and discovering how a multitude of amazing creatures are inspiring inventions at the very forefront of science.
From the chilly climes of Sweden to the warmer shores of San Diego, Richard is once again on a global search to unearth remarkable creatures that have evolved with unique super-powers; along the way he’ll play predator to a tank full of Hagfish prey and fly above the pacific in search of migrating Humpback whales. He’ll also devise entertaining scientific experiments which will in turn explain the extraordinary workings of each of these phenomenal creatures’ specific capabilities.

If you think of our nervous system as a keyboard and each nerve used to control a certain limb it gives us the answer that we need to born with that natural instinct to do certain things (provided your body can actually do them) which without you cant really do, like how you can move your leg but not individual skin cells

Imagine raising an eyebrow or grinning to something you hear, now imagine that those "muscles" and "nerves" for raising an eyebrow are actually for changing your color on your back. Okay... it was adorable when he pulled off that single square. Of course nature doesn't have a lot of perfect squares laying around but that was the point, to see if the cuttlefish would "think" to adapt to new and strange surrounding and he did. You did a fine job, Mr.Cuttlefish.

The Zebra lines weren't improvised. He tried to fit in between the checkerboard on the floor and the stripes at the wall. Notice his position!
I think the flat topography of the place gave him the most trouble. You can't hide shapes when it's all 90° angles.

King Julien squares & right angles don't exist in nature, but there are straight lines - honeycomb is one example.

    It's the eyes!!
I finally saw it and realized it!
That they're eyes are slot so that their field of vision is directly to every that surrounds it directly to the bottom and left of the little guy.
It actually sees the shapes and colors and makes the necessary adjustments to mimic those things.
    So cool. So so cool.

Got a Cuttlefish in my local zoo. It’s truly amazing to watch as he fluxes back and forth in different colors and patterns. Sometimes it’s just a continuous show ever changing like a kaleidoscope.
