Someone should also mod realistic lighting and colors, detailed car models, a proper single-player career mode, intelligent AI, good racecar physics and a tuning/upgrade system that feels new, and this game would instantly become quite great.
Can’t believe the massive downgrade we got both on console and the official pc release. What a shame. That said, this mod is totally worth implementing even with the minor visual noise etc it brings with it. Sad that we have to rely on modders to get what we were originally promised by Turn 10😕

depending upon what you're looking at and how thin it is, there can be a good amount of visible noise and little random flashing fireflies that could occur with this mod. The reason being is because the denoiser and the RTGI itself are unfinished hence why they're not included in the base game and just unlockable via a mod.
The features aren't properly finished. For example, you can see at 11:31 the INSANE amount of noise in the reflections, it almost looks like the game is broken. I'm glad that devs fixed stuttering so I could increase all settings to ultra, disable DLSS, increase resolution rendering to get stable fps with good picture
Ive messed about with the Dev Build of Horizon 3 a lot and Id assume these apply the same to this game that in Forza Vista and Photomode the quality of the car models and the surrounding areas are way higher than the Ultra graphics hence why you'll see your GPU usage go higher in those modes even when its a still image so this maybe were these presets are from. Super intestine that you can just move some files around to get this to work.
Seeing the cost and other limitations they ran into (a good denoiser, etc), I can understand why they had to cut it, especially if it was taking up time and resources for other aspects they needed to get ready for launch and onward... but... I wish devs were more open about these things ESPECIALLY when they promise and show it off earlier then can't deliver it. Turn 10 should've talked about the performance impact ended up being too high for the release version, but if they can improve that, they will try to release it in the future. If that's their intent, then it's explaining that a) yes it does exist, b) they had a valid reason for removing it, c) that there is a possibility it will return, but not a guarantee if they can't get the performance and denoiser quality there.

If they could have somehow hit these targets, we’d be calling it the best Forza since 4. Such a shame considering how good these physics are
I have tried the changes on Update 13, but seems the image looks way worse compared to this video. Has anyone been lucky to get this working on the latest versions?
its hard to notice rt for alot of reasons, 1. baked lighting sometimes is just as good because its pre calculated on super computers/ high end rigs so in some shots its more accurate than realtime raytracing because realtime rt requires more samples and very good denoisers, realtime rt is better for dynamic lighting and dynamic objects but computational wise devs will always choose shortcuts for a steady image, 2. Some games werent designed from scratch to use rt, so the art assets and object materials are not authored for rt, for instance car body paints so even if you add rt it wont change much, weve seen how gt7 did it they had special car materials especially car pain that looks magic with rt on replay but used different materials and baked lighting when playing, its the only best option at the moment.. lastly i think dedicated rt games will be hard to make for devs especially xbox devs when u have to also run that game on series s.. this affetcs many decisions.

I really need to know how it's been a year and clearly the engine is capable of better visuals but WHY have they not made these improved visual official yet? I need an explanation from Turn 10 when they actually do, is it just because they haven't been able to fix the visual glitches that show up in the video or they aren't happy with the performance? I need answers.
2:48 from a different video showing a comparison between RT On and Off with the same car. You can get the same effect from the right (the modded gameplay) by turning RT Off in the default unmodded game. RT On causes the bright exhaust shown on the left. Because RT is broken, and they probabmy didn't build the engine from the ground up but rather patched and welded some bolt ons. Unsuprising.
On Series S, everything about this game looks like ASS. Distant trees turn to blurry squares, car decals look like something from an N64, anti-aliasing turns every edge into a blurry mess. This piece of crap looks worse than just about every racing game from the previous generation.

When you create an application, you make choices about architecture, techniques, libraries, etc. While these decisions help you on the long run, they sometimes close the door on other choices you could've made. That means reverting a decision that didn't work out can be quite a challenge.
As a company, it's also hard to justify thousands of dollars in investment to finance a change that some of the player base will say "oh cool" for a week and then get back to trashing your game for some other reason
06:00 It's insane that they STILL post screenshots with features we can't enable.
Who is in charge over there?!
Wow, the cockpit view is so much better with the mod. I hope they bring it sometime in the future officially.
this last shot with the car in car reflections ist great
Man the outro gameplay footage looks insane 🤩
That PG music tickled my member berries
Someone should also mod realistic lighting and colors, detailed car models, a proper single-player career mode, intelligent AI, good racecar physics and a tuning/upgrade system that feels new, and this game would instantly become quite great.
I love that PGR 1 intro music lol
Can’t believe the massive downgrade we got both on console and the official pc release. What a shame. That said, this mod is totally worth implementing even with the minor visual noise etc it brings with it. Sad that we have to rely on modders to get what we were originally promised by Turn 10😕
man i love this sort of thing. i recall a time when you could absolutely destroy your computer by mucking up INI settings to see what happened. MORE OF THIS. let us experiment and push the envelope!
8:28 Interesting stuff, though I can't help but note that bounce lighting from a red surface onto a white surface in the middle of the day does not turn that white surface blood red. Definitely needs a lot of tuning, and I would argue the vanilla look in that particular case is much better.
@@bongwaterbojack the white wall is in shadow and the red is in direct sunlight. This definitely happens under these conditions irl.
Its a funny case of something that you'd think looks strange when it happens irl, but if a game accurately replicates it, it looks broken.
@@existentialselkath1264 I've raced on many tracks in many conditions and have never seen this in person or on TV. Is there some bounce? Sure. But it doesn't just turn into the exact same color as the surface it's bouncing off.
@@bongwaterbojack I mean, try it. On a hot summers day when the sun is out completely, get the brightest red thing you can in direct sunlight and put it next to a piece of paper or something in shadow.
Ill admit its probably less likely to happen with red gravel or something like it's doing in game. I think real gravel would be darker and so bounce less light, but that's a texture issue. The RTGI is working perfectly fine with the info it's given.
@existentialselkath1264 I've been there already. It doesn't look like that. Slight pink hue is all you'll get. Not a blood red wall.
@@bongwaterbojack it entirely depends on the brightness of the sun and how much light is hitting the wall asside from the red surface. It doesn't happen all the time but it is entirely possible.
It also doesn't happen all the time in forza with RTGI
Excellent coverage Alex. Danke.
Been almost a year, ain't no update coming to improve visuals.
Wouldn't say that, they've definitely improved visuals the last few updates. More vibrant overall, better lighting, clouds are now volumentric... it does look a lot nicer now and more like a Forza game even without this mod. This is an ongoing service, it will keep improving. There's comparisons out there... plus the newer tracks like Sebring and Brand Hatch look noticeably better to me.
@@msum23 So why is none of that mentioned in this video? Alex directly compares the launch and current versions and didn't note any graphical upgrades (indeed it seems like particle rendering has been downgraded). Could it be because you've just made it up? You've certainly made up volumetric clouds being a new feature, because they've been there since launch and are mentioned in Oliver's tech review on Eurogamer.
Update 9 significantly improved visuals with new sky rendering, new gamma and color grading. Did all of you miss the buzz about it a month ago? Look up some comparisons, difference in some cases are night and day.
@@CaptainKenwaybecause he probably wouldn't know? The only comparison here is performance. The 'upgrades' are still subtle if you don't know what to look for
They just did a major overhaul a month ago. Game looks awesome now on PC and much more stable.
10:05 i have noticed both you and John using Hitman: Contracts music in different videos now, it's awesome i love the music to those games so much, Jesper Kyd is a great game composer.
Did not anticipate Galaxy Bounce in the intro. Nice.
Mannnnn. The music at start brought some memories!!
PGR 1 menu song. Oooh the memories
This VisualTarget settings kinds looks like was the one used in the trailers when we first saw Forza Motorsport.
This isn't a mod per se, this is just adding in capability that's already in the game and the devs held back for performance sake?
depending upon what you're looking at and how thin it is, there can be a good amount of visible noise and little random flashing fireflies that could occur with this mod. The reason being is because the denoiser and the RTGI itself are unfinished hence why they're not included in the base game and just unlockable via a mod.
You are definitely modifying the game, though.
The features aren't properly finished.
For example, you can see at 11:31 the INSANE amount of noise in the reflections, it almost looks like the game is broken. They could never let people activate a feature in that state. Most likely all the features that aren't activated are in the same half baked state
The bounce lighting in the car interiors makes such a huge difference. I hated how flat the interiors look in this game, and having the light bouncing naturally inside the car just looks so much better.
I have not played Motorsport yet, but this is very interesting to me. Its a pattern of modding xml/ini files in racing games for visual fidelity i've noticed and participated in since Race Driver: GRID (2007). And is easy to do as demonstrated here, good to know doing these things arr still alive. Got me a big frown for devs that lock down modding. |:
For a 2023 game, environmental textures are severely lacking
Turn 10 went MIA after this dropped.
Thank you so much for an awesome video! This game looks really great, but it has been a bummer that its limits haven't been pushed... until now.
It would be cool if you grabbed the M8 for a spin at Maple Valley and compared it to the first gameplay showcase of the game.
Alex, those screenshots you posted on Twitter looks gorgeous! 😍 The devs should have add all this in the game and let people adjust the graphic settings for their PC. Console folks may get jealous and complain to Microsoft because PC has the "better version of the game"?
hey alex thx for doing this update video on FM
i really hope Turn 10 polishes/finishes the PC version within the next year
Another excellent video! I'm going to test these improvements out myself
Stunning how this game just vanished. It was the Gran Turismo 7 competition. Jesus Xbox, support your fucking games.
It gets regular updates.

At this point I feel like GT7 on PC is a more likely way to have truly next gen racing visuals than waiting for Forza to fix their game.
GT7 doesn't even have ray tracing... what are you even talking about?
Forza Motorsport looks really damn good.
@@fordgtguy GT7 has much higher quality RT but it's only used in replays. For PS5 Pro RT is likely to be much improved and used in gameplay as well.

I wish that too. But how is it putting you off playing?
@@Nucleosyntheseit’s the principle of the matter. There is no reason why they could not separate the competitive online elements from an offline single player experience, satisfying both audiences. They chose not to. I chose not to give them my $70.
@@balaam_7087 I also chose to. Paid way less.
@@James-gj8rn especially because this Forza was already cracked what even is the point of forcing everyone online? Also I hope GT comes to PC natively someday, emulating GT6 has been a blast. GT6 and Forza 4 are still honestly such great racing games.
What the big deal about always online? Because my devices are nevertheless.
For me this is only relevant with bad internet connection.
And I do like that savegames are automatically transferred between XBox and PC.
I really hope that someday you will do a graphical analysis of the "BetterRTX" mod for Minecraft Bedrock. It greatly improves on standard RTX and adds a ton of hidden settings that can be customized to suit your needs.
GREAT intro music, RIP Project Gotham Racing. ❤ Galaxy Bounce
One could imagine a game where they lean into the RT flickering by overlaying an "old film" postprocess and making the rendering problems into part of the overall look. Dare to dream.
Soon as The Chemical Brothers started it was certain Alex was at the helm!
I forgot this game existed and this video reminded me why.
Auf wiedersehen! Bis zum nächsten Mal :D

The trouble for Forza Motorspot is that Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Horizon 4 (yes, the one from 2018) remains a better games, before you even get to comparing it to Forza Horizon 5.

1 year later and they still haven't delivered. 9? Patches and none of them adreess any of the things that people complained since the beginning.
I really wanted this game to be enjoyable but there's just way too much missing. Will keep waiting for Assetto Corsa
I'm glad that devs fixed stuttering so I could increase all settings to ultra, disable DLSS, increase resolution rendering to get stable fps with good picture
Saying they addressed nothing is very exaggerated. The game has changed a lot since launch
@@luis_augusto-22And it's still a pile of shit.
@@IamJay02 If you think so 🤷🏻♂️
Ive messed about with the Dev Build of Horizon 3 a lot and Id assume these apply the same to this game that in Forza Vista and Photomode the quality of the car models and the surrounding areas are way higher than the Ultra graphics hence why you'll see your GPU usage go higher in those modes even when its a still image so this maybe were these presets are from. Super intestine that you can just move some files around to get this to work.
I love fun and curiously sake videos
Allll of a sudden…. They walked back on their presses of FM (8). I remember being hyped about it, bought it, and played it for a bit then didn’t care for it anymore…. Then I remembered the GT7 comparison video and they said GT7 by a narrow margin. But it’s gotta be waaaaaayyy higher. I’m still playing GT7 with the new update, and I haven’t even touched FM (8)
Game plays fantastic today.
15:29 is it just me or does the scene on the right here look like it has RTGI active? You can see some pretty clear evidence of bounce lighting on the stage ceilings on the right.
In my opinion, the game has had changes in the color grading, making the lighting clearer and less blurry, making it possible to see details that could not be seen before.
@@al_toque yeah it doesnt look like a xbox 360 game anymore, i compared a picture i took of this game in first patch with a picture of the current version and the differences are really huge, in the first patch the colors looked really gray and in the current patch it looks like forza horizon 5 lol
I can't even imagine how GT8 would look like on PS5 and PS6.
GT7 has its faults still neither game is flawless
Compared to the original marketing, game still looks like a total slap in the face
All these comments show no one here actually played the game at launch vs now it looks way better than it did then and the tree textures and movement was also improved also the color grading but these comment's seem like they didnt play but they judging
It may look better but the physics are still FUCKED.
What are you smoking?
Physics is ok to the game of such genre. You can prefer old FM physics or GT7 physics , yeah
Cyberpunk had an E3 RT mode you could enable during its early days. What if this was also just a mode for video adverts? Or it could be test work that covered certain scenarios but was deemed too much work (for now or ever).
11:05 i love how there are BMW M logos in the porsche 911

Those RT fireflies annoyed me so much in Dying Light 2, hopefully this noise problem can get solved for good soon.
Wow, it’s crazy how much the game has been downgraded since the game was first shown. Gi really makes it look much closer to those early trailers and much more photorealistic. If they could have somehow hit these targets, we’d be calling it the best Forza since 4. Such a shame considering how good these physics are
I agree I’ve been playing with the mod all night & it’s crazy how different the game is now. I could confidently say it surpass horizon 5 in visuals
hey I am really happy they;re fixing the performance, it aint there yet, but its better than nothing.

Lmao
too bad the game itself sucks id love to try these mods out
I have tried the changes on Update 13, but seems the image looks way worse compared to this video. Has anyone been lucky to get this working on the latest versions?
From the beginning, it was obvious that the game isn't finished. A year later and still missing that visual quality. And now we know why.
Game still looks better with only raster options after doing this tweak with the advantage of running at twice the fps.
Maude. I like that pronunciation :)
Very close to winning the prize for LEAST visible RT of all time.
its hard to notice rt for alot of reasons, 1. baked lighting sometimes is just as good because its pre calculated on super computers/ high end rigs so in some shots its more accurate than realtime raytracing because realtime rt requires more samples and very good denoisers, realtime rt is better for dynamic lighting and dynamic objects but computational wise devs will always choose shortcuts for a steady image, 2.
RT is overrated.
Kind of disgusting Xbox is dangling the Visualtarget folder saying, “Look what it could have been, we just didn’t want to QA test it!”
i hope the modders fix the bugs and it will b perfect
Getting this game is like losing at Bullseye. It's just needs Jim Bowen wheeling out a better game and telling you what you that is what you could have won.

such a gr8 test
now we just need to find that hidden setting that stops FM23 from crashing my Xbox back to the dashboard if i play it for more than 30 minutes. what an absolute DISASTER for MS and. Turn 10.
Thats just an install file issue that can happen on any device. Lol
Really disappointing that modders are the ones making improvements when the dev that got the money just simply doesnt care
Is it me or has this been officially implemented? I just got Game Pass again and reinstalled it, and the RT settings were right there.
They have not. The ray tracing settings are more or less the same as they were at launch.
nice PGR1 menu music
I hope eventually we will have ray tracing capable graphics card for decent prices…
Cars will always look two generations old with that lack of detail and terrible textures, but the tracks and environments look great.
On Series S, everything about this game looks like ASS. Distant trees turn to blurry squares, car decals look like something from an N64, anti-aliasing turns every edge into a blurry mess.
This piece of crap looks worse than just about every racing game from the previous generation.
@@flyingplantwhale545 That's cause the series s is a POS that is weaker than last gen consoles.
@@deathtrooper3069no its because turn 10 reuse old inaccurate car models

Forza visuals are looking better bit by bit, maybe Turn10 needs your mod skills to help full-time!
Does this still work? Because when I do this my game wont start
The fact that this game was just accepted in the way it released will always bother me. They legit needed the cyberpunk treatment. Turn10 has fallen from grace and is a shell of what they used to be.
I really don't get why some of these features were not include in the graphics options?
Wish we will see a fully path traced racing sim down the limit. That would look like, well, real life.

My game still has frame pacing issues this far after launch, I get a locked 60fps and rock solid frame time graph according to RTSS, but visually the game looks jittery? it's very odd and entirely specific to this game as I've never seen a game behave this way in all my years. Whenever I make a turn it's like the whole image vibrates.... I've tried EVERYTHING to fix it too. Nothing has.
