Mike and Chris have the best intros! Glad you can collaborate long distance too! Thanks for another great year and particularly for highlighting the trick-takers or similar games.
„Stich für Stich“ does mean stitch by stitch, but more importantly in this context it means „trick by trick“. Trick-taking games are „Stich-Spiele“ in German. Thanks for all your awesome content!
Kings: Tricktakers is my favorite trick-taking game ever at this point in time. I am so glad I saw it when it was on Kickstarter and secured a copy. It really is a perfect blend of trick-taking and drafting. Absolutely love this game! Also, Shoutout to Tricky Time Crisis. Probably my second favorite this year. So much fun trying to short suit yourself on purpose sometimes because you don't want to get any more point cards and ruin your high total. Just the right number of special cards as well to keep things interesting each round. And lovely art by the wonderful Sai Beppu. ❤️
@lukewatson4489 I backed the recent KS for the original and Haggis. I have not played it yet but as I understand, Kings is a bit more complex with more thought going into the drafting portion of the game. Though both look to be equally as fun.
That hat is what the 'roetveegpiet' (/zwarte piet) are wearing on the 5th of December in the Netherlands. It's an an annual celebration here which looks a lot like Christmas. So we basically have 2 Christmases in december.
Loved the intro with you and Chris, Mike. Thanks for this and yes I do believe there has been a trick-taking renaissance. How do you think this renaissance started by the way? I'm thinking it was thanks to The Crew 1 and 2 perhaps (could be wrong)?
You should check out The Barracks Emperors! It really shines as a 2v2 game. You're playing 13 simultaneous tricks on a chess-like grid. The winner of the trick is not who played the highest value card, but rather who is in the corresponding seat of the highest card spatially relative to the trick bring resolved (like the seat winds in mahjong)
Can anyone tell me how to get on whatever new letter exists for new trick taking games? These are soooo hard to source or are crazy expensive second hand. :(
Mike, do you have a preferred player count for Kings? The game claims it goes anywhere from 2-5 players. I've only gotten it to the table once with 5 and I suspect it would be better with 4 (and I can't imagine it being great with 2?)

Mike moved back to Indiana

Mike and Chris should start a monthly Trick-Taking recurring show! I'd eagerly turn notifications on for that.

OH YESSSSSSSSSS!! So glad you dug Sail!! What an amazing list😍😍😍😍😍💫💫💫💫💫
Sail is so good! Also, Short Zoot Suit and Of What's Left are officially going to be 2024 releases for my purposes.
Too kind!!@@thedicetower
"Dice Tower-feld!" :)
I love all types of board & card games, but I've definitely always loved trick-takers, too.
Thanks, Mike! 🤘🏻
Happy Christmas Mike! I always enjoy your reviews!

Have you played the original? How do they both compare?

Very cool!
That sounds awesome! If happily don a roetveegpiet hat and eat some kruidnoten every December 5th. -Chris
Nice Seinfeld reference 🤣
But I don't wanna be a pirate!
I enjoyed the Seinfeld riff as well.
Seas of Strife is one of our favorites!
Also enjoying Foodie Forest and Aurum and Tighee!
Seas of Strife is terrific. I have Foodie Forest and Aurum, but didn't get to play them in time for this list. Tighee is on my want list.
No Mori?! That's my favorite trick taking game of the year I've played
It was right there. Definitely on the short list. Terrific game.

The Crew certainly played a role, but it’s hard to pinpoint it to a specific game.
I didn't know anything about Stich fur Stich, that one sounds really cool! Thanks for the list!
Where can you get Jekyll and Hyde vs Scotland Yard?
Picked up Tricky Time Crisis, Savage Bowl and Kings Tricktakers based on this list. Thanks!
Great intro😀
All love to trick taking games

Surprised to not see For Northwood on the list, especially as it is solo only. Really love it! Wonder what Mike thinks of it.
I LOVE For Northwood, but it’s a 2021 release.
@@michaeldilisio557 Oh I see! All the recent coverage on it must've tripped me up. Absolutely love that game.
Web-published in '21, Gamefound in '22, fulfillment started March '23. I think there's a case for including it, but what even is time anyway
@@theSolemnBard that’s fair. Had I considered it a 2023 release it would have been on the list.
Mike, have you played Extreme Tricks? I could have sworn I saw it on one of your lists.
Barbie girl ring tone was quite funny 😂
Soooo disappointed that you didn't keep the costume on! Great intro though!
#guiltyfoodtricks was my favorite of the year, not particularly different or innovative but a super fun theme!
It was on the short list. The theme is fantastic, but as you said, it’s not terribly innovative. Still like the game though!
There's one about food and you kept it from me? I'm gonna have to make you remedy that, Mike. -Chris
@@thedicetower really it's about taking pictures of food, and not eating it
Go Seinfeld 😂😂😂 this was really funny
Next thing you know, Mike is going to be painting the ceiling.
Can anyone tell me how to get on whatever new letter exists for new trick taking games? These are soooo hard to source or are crazy expensive second hand. :(
Interesting ♨now 🙏🏼🖤
You might have to do a top 50 sometime at this rate, lol
When are we getting the best of all time trick taking games?
That's on our shortlist, for sure! We did it in 2020, so late 2024 o 2025 feels right to do it again.
Mike, do you have a preferred player count for Kings? The game claims it goes anywhere from 2-5 players. I've only gotten it to the table once with 5 and I suspect it would be better with 4 (and I can't imagine it being great with 2?)
3-4 is probably my preference.
You didn't like Holly Oak or you just didn't play it? Shame you didn't mention Pies either, even though it's a reprint. Also Seas of Strife.
Not 2023, but Gorus Maximus does a very similar clever 2 player trick taking spin to trick takers 😊
Seinfeld!!!! Almost as good as in the series!!!
No Aurum!? HOW DARE YOU!!!
Hipparchus =Marshmallow Scout ⬜ 🎪
Hmm...that's an interesting thought.
Someone needs to nake a trick taking game about puffy shirts
but i don't wanna be a pirate!
Surprised to not see Mori
Seinfeld and the Puffy Shirt.
A great tribute to Seinfeld!
Surely it's 28 days later
Yes, I'm sure that's the reference.
@@thedicetower And 28 Weeks Later. It's more than a reference. They straight-up stole the logo.
Come on, Mike! You should be proud to wear the outfit of your people! Maybe you'd like Ezio's outfit from Assassin's Creed better...
Shoulda worn the outfit the whole video, @mikedilisio. That shirt really accentuates your wrists.
It's 28 days later....
Not first nor last but i swear i clicked fast
