    I LOVE trick taking games. Ones I recommend:
    Stichlen or stick 'em (same game). This game turns the entire format of trick taking on its head. It's the most brain burning trick taking game I've ever played. It's very heavy on 'take that', so you have to play with players who dont mind getting messed up by other players. If I ranked my trick taking games, this would likely be #1.
    Fox in the Forest and Fox in the Forest duet are interesting.
    Rage - not too crazy, but adds enough to be fun.
    Time chaser - very quirky. You win tricks, but then in future tricks, you can travel to the past to win the tricks already taken.
    Claim.
    Fishing.

      I am certainly going to test that out, from what I see it looks to be a small component in how actions are selected not the feature mechanism that drives winning and losing. Either way I am excited to get that one to the table. I am expecting my copy in July sometime so it is a tough wait...

    We're also in the cooperative camp, so The Crew has been our go-to. I'm very excited for Jekyll & Hide vs. Scotland Yard to come out based on the reviews (dang it - hate it when a game is hyped so many months ahead of availability). I've seen enough reviews and playthroughs of Sail to know that it would probably get boring quickly for us, so passing on that one. Hoping that we see more cooperative trick-taking games though.

Skull King would probably be my favorite that I have tried. When it comes down to it, I just like to play the old school regular deck games. Euchre, Oh Hell and Spades.

    • @Neon_Gorilla

      in playing all of these it certainly seems like the genre is for people that can't get enough of the mechanism and just simply need more content. I think many of the trick takers I have played are twists on the genre there are a few that completely change the feel of the genre completely. Tricky Time Crisis is one of those.

      @@Neon_Gorilla I will say, I wont turn down a good trick taking game to try it out. It seems that much like hidden information, and social deduction games it really depends on the group you play with. • @Neon_Gorilla
      @Neon_Gorilla  7 месяцев назад

      You make a great point on trick taking success being dependent on group. I hadn’t really thought about it but I had a rough Schedenfreude game but it was because the other players weren’t pulling the levers properly.

      @@Neon_Gorilla In Spades the couples are fixed throughout the game. Making it a both a cooperative AND a competitive game. It is this + the nil bidding and bag system (10 bags are -100 points) which makes Spades the king. EVERY trick really counts. It's a genius game for 4 players.
      The best rules: Play to 500 points. No double Nils, successful nil is set to 80 points. If nil bid busts: -80 points, tricks taken by nil bidder do not count towards bags, points or contract tricks. If the nil bidders partner makes his/her contract; the points are positive scored even if partner busts.

    The crew is the only trick taking game that really clicked with my play group. We have no interest in competitive trick taking games. They fill a weird niche of light filler game and we'd rather play something like scout or sea salt and paper to fill in those gaps.

    • @Neon_Gorilla

      Which ones have you tried and failed on? I thought the same until I dove deep into the genre and found some pretty deep experiences. If you like crew…inside job certainly should be one you try. If you like co op Sail is the best I have played….tricky time crisis is not cut from the same cloth as the mass produced trick takers, it’s a very satisfying experience and can anchor a game night. Thanks for watching.

      @@Neon_Gorilla I've tried cat in the box and Skull King they're ok, but I don't think they have the same amount of tension compared to the Crew. Winning a mission by the skin of your teeth is exhilarating. Playing Cat in the Box and winning your prediction bid is just a huh neat I get more points. I grew up playing hearts and I think a lot of the gimmicks that make trick taking unique are just that gimmicks. The Crew is the first that really got me to be invested in genre again, but I might try inside job your discussion did seem pretty interesting.

      @@Neon_Gorilla Some of the modern trick taking games are plenty of fun, but for strategy and tactics I haven’t found one that beats hearts. Plus the shoot the moon mechanism is exhilarating when you pull it off. The only flaw is you need exactly 4 players.

    • @jeffersonwu952
      @jeffersonwu952 8 дней назад

      Yes, "Hearts" is the best trick taking game of all time!
      If you like cut-throat trick taking games, nothing (maybe Bridge) even come close to this game. The Crew, the cat, the dog, the princess, and the whatever all pales compare to Hearts.
      As Beefy said, the only flaw is you need exactly 4 players. But you only need a deck of poker cards and the game has a very long lasting life. In other words, you will never get tired of it (if you enjoy stabbing other players) Note that gambling in this game will double or halve the appreciation for this game depending on whether you are winning or losing.
