    This tournament seems like it has really given Magnus new life for competitive chess, so much more than any World Championship match would, which is insane to think about. He enjoys winning small tournaments vs multiple strong opponents rather than playing the same guy over 12 or 14 games, not just once, but for back-to-back defenses. And I respect that. He seems to have fun, but also seriously messes up his opponents.

      @Hal Mal round refers to all the player's matches, match to all the games each pair play that round, and game is the singular ones

    • @kimaboe
      @kimaboe Год назад +27

      @Hal Mal I love Levy, but no, he clearly meant single games, not matches, because he mentioned the Niemann game.
      Also, it makes no sense to make a big deal out of not losing a single match, considering he has played a total of two matches, yesterday against Levon and today against Keymer. The prelims were single games.
      But his point is well taken. Magnus has played 23 games and scored 15 wins, 6 draws and two losses, one of which he inflicted on himself. Its an insane score and probably his best ever online tournament performance.
      If we only look at the rapid games Carlsen has scored +13, whereas Erigaisi has scored +3...

  • @inglotto
    @inglotto Год назад +257

    Magnus' end game is really something else. He kept pressuring despite being in theoretical draw, with very complex positions, until his opponent committed one, then another inaccuracy. What a beast. I spent the last few days studying and improving my end game, I really think that I learned something today. Hats off to Vincent that held off Magnus in Magnus' territory (end game) for so long. A star in the making.

    You just made my life!!! My bf (whose name is Ben) thinks chess is dull and I can't get him into it. I just told him that there is a cute puppy with the same name and now he's hooked. Also he thinks you're really cute and now he calls me the 2nd hottest chess nerd.

    Not only do you hit the nail on the head with the UFC references.. but the “shop so much I could speak Italian” Kanye reference was the icing on the cake. Keep up the great commentary and analysis Levy!
