You must get tired of hearing your praises from all your students. The first time I watched this video I was so entranced watching you paint that I didn’t even hear what you were saying. I know you have mentioned to me several time and in all of your videos to approach the painting in layers, starting light to dark but this video, for some reason, really made it sink in. And the tips on how to paint eyes - so informative! I can’t wait to try the Patreon 2.5 hour long version. . . But I think I will watch it a few times first. This is just so beautifully painted!!!! Bravo! BRAVO!!!
I'm glad you found some helpful nuggets in this one, Valerie! :) Use the real-time/fully-narrated tutorial version on Patreon, for sure, when you go for it!
Thanks so much for checking out this video and leaving your valuable comment. :) I hope you get back into painting more consistently watercolor at some point! I'm sure it'll come back to you. Though, you do such great work with other painting mediums. 👏🙌Take care and have a great rest of the week!
Hi, Madison! Thanks so much for watching and for your kindness. :) I'm so happy you liked this one. This big guy was a joy to paint. Stay safe and have a great week!
i like when you go step by step painting the eyes what i know painting the eyes will bring out the portrait and brings out more of the likeness of the portrait
So true, Luis! The eyes are so important in portraits, whether humans or animals. Thanks so much for watching and leaving your valuable comment. :) Stay safe!
You've been very helpful and excellent in describing what you are doing while you are painting. I am getting ready to paint my daughters favorite dog that just passed and the pick her husband sent me his eyes are closed. So this video will help me tremendously! Its a surprise for her so I want it to turn out special!Keep up the great work!
Hey, there! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. It means the world. :) I'm glad to hear this one was helpful. I'm sure your daughter will absolutely LOVE her dog's portrait. A pet's passing is always so painful and having a painting to remember her/him is amazing. I wish you tons of enjoyment with your painting. 💚
Hey, there! Here are the colors I used for this piece: Transparent Yellow Medium Carmine, Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna, Van Dyke Brown, Ultramarine Blue, Prussian Blue, Neutral Tint + White gouache from Winsor and Newton. :) Hope this helps! Thanks for watching. 💚
Holy cow. I just had an epiphany! The reason the eyes in all my animals have this weird expression is because I have am, more or less, outlining the eye giving the eye a ‘hard’ look. I’m not allowing the eye to look like it is reflecting soft lights or that light in entering it. Good grief. I need to redo the video on eyes that you did a while back!!! THANKS!
Hi, Valerie! Yep! Those harsh outlines! Keeping things softer and staying away from the look of outlines overall makes a huge difference. Also having line weight variation in mind and seeing little areas of darker values as separate little abstract shapes as opposed to lines. Have a great week!
