Amazing video, very informative. if i just may add, in my experience saran hair seems to get more hype from companies when they use saran, saran hair looks the most realistic because they aren't too shiny, but i do prefer nylon because they seem to available in a bigger range of color and are easy to style.

  • @DottedDame

Personally in my experience with kanekalon hair is the synthetic hair in my opinion that is the most like human hair to me and yes the hair is matte, soft, flowy and feather like but also can be shiny like Nylon and Saran and all hair fibers and the hair is even better with hair conditioner in it makes the hair silky smooth and makes it shiny. The hair can also be Curled,Crimp,Straighten using hair curling tools crimping tools and straightening tools as long as you use the tool on the lowest heat setting and use hair products like heat resistant spray and hair conditioner to protect the hair. The hair can also be Curled by boil washing using straws but use bobby pins to secure the hair onto the straws by sliding the uncurled end of the bobby pin on each end of the straw hole one end in the hole one end on top of the hair but you need to put hair conditioner in the hair to protect it before you put the straws in to make the form of the curls after that you dip the dolls hair in the boiling water to curl the hair and then dip the dolls hair in ice cold water to set the curls let the hair dry and then take the straws and bobby pins out. The hair can also be crimp using hair conditioner on the dolls hair first to protect the hair then using straws by over lapping them making bumps on the dolls hair and using bobby pins to secure the hair to the straw by sliding the uncurled end of the bobby pin on each end of the straw hole one end in the hole one end on top of the hair then dip the hair in boiling water to crimp it and in ice cold water to set it let it dry and take the straws and bobby pins out. The hair can also be straighten by boil washing it but you need to use hair conditioner to protect the hair and so the hair will be easy to brush or comb through after you take it out of the boiling water the hair will look burnt and frizzy but its not cause of the hair conditioner just use your brush or comb to straighten it and repeat till it straight enough for your liking and you only need to use the hair conditioner once but that's up to you if you wanna add more when you repeat it and you don't have to use ice cold water to set it for straightening the hair but that's up to you to. Plus when you reroot a doll with that hair or if a doll already comes with that hair it's much harder to lose a whole entire hair plug from the holes in the dolls head since the hair fiber breaks so easily when your brushing or combing it and yes you usually will break and lose a few hair fibers cause of how delicate the hair fiber is. But the good part of it is the hair fiber will break before your able to brush it or comb it hard enough to be able to pull out a whole entire hair plug from the holes in the dolls head but this will only happen if you always have the hair conditioned by hair conditioner and always keep the hair brushed and this won't happen. So yes basically it's synthetic hair that is close to human hair and will last the longest on your dolls head of course in my opinion that is but as long as you take care of it right by making sure it's brushed out and conditioned.

Back when my daughter was young I got her a Barbie that came with a brush that had a white soft/ smooth glossy hair like fibers. We actually used it to brush my daughters hair. It worked really well surprisingly to keep her fine hair from getting matted. She hated for use to even touch it.
Im sculpting an anime character and I would like to use those same fibers because they were thicker and springier then regular doll hair. It could make for a fuller look.

Kanekalon is the original hair used from Barbies of the 80's and 90's till late 2000's

    • @whatanitemare
      @whatanitemare Год назад

Kanekalon was the hair that you found almost exclusively in the 90's. It's cheap and horrible stuff to work with which is why so many 90's barbies have bad hair cuts. As far as original hair?? You have to go back to the 60's for that, not the 80's.

  • @Bearded_Fox

I've seen kiwi nylon listed as cheaper than saran and nylon hair. Yet kiwi nylon looks similar to the Hollywood Hair barbies hair. As it doesn't look as heavy as saran and has a shine but looks as thin as kanekalon hair. So in your experience nylon would ultimately be the best to reroot barbie? I only ask this as I'm a little scared of how cheap dolls use to get this big of frizz if you brushed it to much. So how does one know what nylon is best

Great video, Denisa. I hate kanekalon hair, but love saran hair. I've always used Saran hair for my dolls' re-roots, as I love the "texture" it has. For me that hair fiber is "fleshy" and that's why it reminds me a well conditioned, thick human hair.
Last year I bought 2 or 3 "sets" (for My Scene dolls) of nylon hair. And I also like its texture and shine, etc.
My question is - does the KIWI hair differ much than other nylon hair (I think there are 2 types of nylon hair) in terms of quality, etc.?
I would be very grateful for your help.

I found that using a clothes steamer works like a charm on Kanekalon, saran, nylon and synatra the newest hair fiber on the market. You are less likely to burn the hair because the heat is a wet source. I use it after rerooting dolls hair, but as far as curling it I have to use the blow dryer on damp doll hair. I only burned one of my dolly's hair once on saran hair .It was because I had the steam on the highest setting and steamed the area for too long while day dreaming pops! Lol

She said you could try curling cream or a lot of water when using an iron, but if you want to curl or get the hair to lay flat, you can put the hair in hot water. You then put it in cold water. You might have to do it a couple times if it won't stay down.

Have you ever worked with Jenny dolls? The only doll I have is a Jenny and I find her factory hair to be a pain to work with, but I love to the color too much to reroot! I really need some tips!

I am trying to find out if Kanekalon or Saran was used on the section of hair that glows in the dark on the G2 MLPs Nightglow and Nightshine. It is clearly not nylon as it breaks easily, and is very shiny, which is not the case with glow nylon. Nightglow's glow stripe is curly and Nightshine's is straight. Nightglow's hair actually breaks when combed as the phosphorescent particles are ripped out of the curl. Nightshine's hair just frays, like all glow hair I've seen (I'm not gonna break the strands on purpose!). For both ponies there are little glow bits in the hair when a UV light is shined on it, and I don't see this on jumbo braid glow (which is kanekalon). I thought they were saran, but seeing this video I am starting to consider kanekalon. the ponies were released in 2003. Any ideas?

How do you fix Saran hair i have tried everything i have in the house and i cant get the frizziness out unfortunately most people say to boil wash witch i did or soak in fabric softener that i don't have

This is the only way that worked for me. You brush out the hair with fabric softener, rinse, then flat iron the hair at the lowest setting and while the hair is still wet.

I have seen other people use conditioner instead of fabric softener though
