    Hey Cat. Great tutorial! So easy with Skype. Can't wait to try it out. On the audio question, I am using VB virtual audio cable effectively to into Zoom. What has been a game changer is the Audio Monitor plug-in for OBS that came out earlier this year. With that it is so much easier to control (mute, monitor, levels, etc.). You no longer have to mess with Advanced Audio Properties.

    For my audio control I use voice meeter potato (I know meter is spelled wrong but it’s how they spell it) it’s really great for using a virtual cable and of course has the mixing board so you can run all your software’s audio through each channel and adjust accordingly. Like Ron said, it DEFINITELY takes some time, even for someone who knows audio, to wrap your head around the virtual cable, in audio app settings you choose the virtual input which is really the softwares output - like he said have patience I found voice meeter potato has the most tutorial videos and the easiest to use, in a lot of ways it kind of fills in the blanks after you start setting up. It’s also a free open source software for Windows anyways I don’t know about Mac.

    Thank you Cat for the awesome guide! If using your setup as an example, do you know if it would be possible for Ron to share his screen as a different scene in OBS? Or even have his screen shared while both faces on screen, kind of like what you can do with Streamyard?

  • @marcesmack
    @marcesmack 2 года назад

    Yea. You should set the audio monitor in obs to be the virtual audio cable. The basic way to understand the virtual cable is, that is a virtual audio device. Just like loopback in Mac creates virtual audio devices, VB Audio cable is a virtual audio input. So whatever audio output you assign to it, it will route the audio in that way.
    The audio monitor option from obs is an output. So if you choose the virtual audio cable there. Whatever audio monitor comes from obs will be an input for that VB cable.
    Inputs and outputs. Hope this makes sense. :)

    The problem I find, is the mix of cameras, so assuming you have one decent camera that you are using to stream with OBS, then you can't duplicate that for Skype. So essentially the person you are talking to through skype will probably have to deal with a grainy built in webcam unless you have the budget to buy another decent one just for Skype. Its not a major problem I suppose, but it would be nice that the camera can duplicate.

    I got to where I initiated the Meeting on my PC with Skype and used my Tablet as a fake "Second Guest", to try all of this out. I got my feeds all lined up in OBS and was surprised to see my "Second Guest" side by side in OBS, after I had myself Join the Meeting. The thing is... I hit Record on Skype and got the audio, but my audio was not in the OBS Recording. That is, I was doing an internal recording that was saved in my previously-specified folder, but should I not have Recorded in Skype first? I have a feeling either one recording 'grabbed' the audio from the other OR that the NDI Source didn't pick up the audio from the selected NDI Sources, even though I was 'seeing' the feeds? :)

    It’s the same process for “Stream Lab OBS”? Or does works only in “OBS”?

    • @calebmccool

      Hi Diego. I used StreamLabs a long, long time ago. I use OBS now… and if I can remember, this process is relatively the same. Open Skype, toggle “Allow NDI Usage” in settings, add the NDI source, and then add the screen graphics. The one question you might have is ‘How do I add an NDI source to StreamLabs?’ Again, it’s been a very long time since I used StreamLabs. But this is my humble guess. 🙏 hope this helps you!

      @@diegoescobar_ StreamLabs is a lot more user-friendly. But from my experience, OBS is much more customizable than StreamLabs - which obviously makes it more confusing. If 3 minutes go by into your video and we're still learning about a guy named Ron, something's wrong. There are 59 comments now but hundreds more who didn't bother, opting to click off the video after 30 seconds when they realized they weren't going to get an answer anytime soon.
