For anybody wondering, Tom said some form of the word Microphone a total of 81 times in 9 minutes. Mic: 23 Microphone: 31 Microphones: 27 Love the videos Tom!
As a Camera Junkie, I feel your pain. I too have had to hold myself back with Mic's as well. Once you start researching "Polar Patterns" it's officially a "thing" Great Video Bro 💯
I bought the PodMic based on your recommendation. (I love it! Great advice). I have never been upset you are testing and recommending different mics. You have saved me so much money because I always get an honest review showing how different mics stand up to the PodMic. Keep up the great work!
Thank you Tom for the supporter mention at the end of your vid. I am a proud supporter and always watch your vids. BTW, love your collection. Can’t wait to hopefully one day be on one of your livestreams. I hooked up my stream and video editing desk I’ve worked so hard at. Thank you again.
I’m happy to hear about your progress Rudy! Glad you like the supporter mentions too. I think it’s fun, so I’m planning to add it to more videos in the future.
I kind of have one now... I bought a Neumann TLM 103, KMS104, Sennnheiser MKH 416, Rode NTG3, Neumann KMR82i, U87 and an AEA KU5A in the space of two months. Those mics are all way cheaper in the U.K. so I couldn't stop myself!
I love your energy! Gives me a fresh of breathe air. We need more people like you on this earth. You bet I watched the whole vid to help with recommendations to others
Good for you. It’s a fascinating subject. I started by reviewing cheap mics and then companies started to send them to me which allowed me to really get stuck in and find the real differences between them. I have been so lucky to receive them since my real interest lies in sound capture rather than video and I am supported by some great manufacturers. This has helped me to continue making videos and I’m still surprised by innovations in the sound department. And I’ve been videoing since the early 70’s! Still love it. Don’t feel ashamed of your passion. It’s a passion with me too.
I have been thinking about expanding a bit, but I’m not sure that videographers want to go that far with their audio! Views are very difficult with audio gear and it does get to me sometimes. I think so many people get one mic and don’t really see/hear any differences and ao just stick with their mic. I suppose they save a lot of money that way!! Anyway, I am chuffed that I’m about to hit 2000 subscribers and manufacturers are actually helping me develop the channel by sending me gear. I never take that for granted. Deity have been wonderful as well as a few other companies. Never thought I’d even hit 500, let alone 2000. I just make the videos for my own enjoyment and for a local shop for money! It really is a passion for me! I also really like the online community here. There are some really close knot friendships that I have developed with people similar to me and their passion for good sound. I think that’s such a bonus of RUclips that is rarely talked about.
Oh wow, I’m really interested in what working with video was like in the 70’s. I start with 8mm tapes, but never really used anything that came before.
Editing was a nightmare compared to today!! Each clip had to be physically stuck together and the reels were just 3 minutes long. Of course with developing, colours and contrast could be so variable. I had a little portable viewer to wind the film through and do the cuts, which were made at 45 degrees to make them less noticeable. I think the frame rate was 16fps (to save film). I’m a retired musician and worked in film recording as well as radio recording so for me, even in those days, sound was very important so I used a reel to reel recorder to record music myself or make various sounds. I put a blip at the start of the film to start the reel to reel tape recorder in order to get a rough sync. A lot of my recordings were me playing so I sometimes just put the music over the film with brief shots of me playing but they didn’t match or sync! Cameras that had a magnetic tape alongside the film were extremely expensive and too risky to leave around at venues! Makes me feel extremely old to say the least with all you flash guys on RUclips! Even though I was a performer, I still struggle in front of a lens but you guys are so confident in your presentations!! I could easily play into a mic with my oboe or sax, but speaking is terrifying!!! Great channel.
A Like for the intro alone haha! another great one Tom! I usually comment from my alt premium account but it’s always incredible to see the channel growth!! Keep up the great work and congrats on the success!
Congratulations on setting the new world record for the most puns in a RUclips video in under 10 minutes! I understand your addiction. I have a Yeti, an MV7, 2 Podmics and an SM7B. And I love each of them.
I should add that I bought the Podmics after watching your videos and I’m so glad I did. I don’t have a problem with you using different mics, mics are fun! Do whatever makes you happy. 👍🏻🎙
Holy mic! You’re still doing ok, there’s other people with even more mics. It’s still a hobby but I believe in your addiction. Keep going! Lol Thanks for all of your wonderful videos.
So... To sum it up. You just entered into the same addiction of podcastage! Personally, i just bought the mxl-990 and i love it. even a little more than my Neat WorkerBee !
Tom,..just saw this and laughed so loud when I saw the first few minutes of this. Dude,...THAT is pure sick!!! It honestly IS an addiction and its no different than my former Fountain Pen Illness that I FINALLY broke free from just over a year ago now. The problem is so similar. As an artist,...I got addicted to flex nib pens and I kept buying vintage as well as new pens in my NEVER ending quest to find "that perfect pen that laid down the best line variation to match my art style" After spending huge amounts of money,...one day I just walked in my studio, noticed the amount of pens all over the place and thought, "OH MY LORD,...WHAT AM I DOING?!?!?!!!" I ended up keeping just two and sold or gave away the rest! It was liberating although I still break out in cold sweats when I get a glimpse of a new RUclips post reviewing the next best pen. Now about 6 months ago I decided that my podcast about art needed some equipment upgrades and I started with my mic. I was coached by my brother to just be careful and not get caught up in the mic carousel and just go and get an EV RE20 as it is the absolute best for our voices. (He has one too). So I did. But then I needed an Audio Interface,...and then a cloud lifter,..and then I thought it would be smart to have a backup mic in the event of an emergency. SO I purchased an XLR/USB mic...but then I found a great deal on another dynamic mic that made a great alternate. Now I need a Condenser mic to have for that extra option. See where this was headed???? Its a sickness Tom,.....so now I'm looking at getting an ETHOS. Its just so darn cool and sounds great. Oh man,....THIS IS BAD!!! I think I should upgrade from my Scarlett Solo too with another interface that can provide more gain too.
Thank you! I remember getting the PodMic and then agonizing over whether or not to get a second one so that I'd have a matching pair. 😁 I will say, that even after getting all these other mics I'm always pleasantly surprised when I go back to the PodMic. It sounds fantastic, especially when used with a signal booster.
I had to rewind and watch you point to your worst mic like 3 times hahaha 🤣 And now to figure out how to hook up all of your mics at the same time for a mega showdown… 🤔
Yes, that was a nice touch, Tom being too polite and discreet to call-out the worst one here. I bet a lot of us recognized it right away, though, which is interesting since he just showed one edge of it.
I have 15 mics at the moment, mostly classics and discontinued models. I realized the untapped potential for reviews, as most of mine do not have any reviews at all on the RUclips. I've started working through them. So, if vintage/discontinued mics appeal to you, let me know and I'll link to them once I get them posted.
I haven't tried yet my 2 podmic's and the rodecaster.. i am looking at them from my electric bed, and the mics are in 2 blue mic stands..soon i will "get up".. 2 years in bed is enough for now.. But i don't regret..i buyed because i like them, and yes, your reviews helped, but i leave a thank you to ya, because now, the day i "get up", i have a purpose and at least that stuff is well "documented" in your channel..and i learned a lot just by watching! I bought that spounges and i don't mind to "loose" a bit stetics, maybe..they sound better i think. Hey..i am talking as i already tested them..lol.. the feature of bluetooth for calls, looks cool for live interaction..like radio shows.. I even bought a avermedia 4k camera.. I started making with leds my own lights, but maybe i change plan on that and build with aluminium foil or spray some light boxes..even if i don't wan't my face to appear in content i may create. Well..at least, i changed my youtube banner, got some links for patreon and ko-fi, also gave my website a "lift-up job" (still in progress), and even if it is not my favourite content i would like to create, i feel need to help to translate to portuguese speakers in the world, some important content in this times we live now.. But... helping people to get their own servers and electronics iot ..data and stuff like that.is more my type, perhaps..wee'll see. I will soon, get help from my son, now school is over, and let me tell you Tom Buck (Rogers ??), that you should not feel guilty.. feel yourself good for 99% of the people, audience included! OK..so, ..i tried once my Sony hx400v in the hdmi output to a monitor, and it is not "clean", but....if i remember..i didn't mind so much.. strange..being perfeccionist (like yourself, hum), but i can record good video with it, and the webcam too, i supose..it is more than enough.. I have several SQ11 mini-mini cameras, that can be used in stream too .. ah..i remember what i was going to ask you.. i will ask you it maybe in live stream, but i have an old tablet, that i tried in free version of touch portal..it seems to work..I think it is cool to have so many options on touch portal and i will try it. Also, i am thinking...since it is in the end "just" makro combination keys, to build some electronics related to it... If you can, get deeper in your stream deck and touch portal..i saw your video about it, but with their updated releases.. omg..that is enough for a coment! Just leave to all of you some love, here in these words! bye
Haha, thank you for all this! Suffice it to say, I'm glad you're using your "down time" to plan and get excited about future projects/ideas. Seems like there's a lot of exciting stuff to look forward to! I really do want to learn more about my Stream Deck- I know I've only begun to scratch the surface.
HAHAHAHA I feel very attacked by the title itself. Should we start a Microphonic Anonymous club? And welcome to the LCT 240Pro, it's one of our mics! and the only podcaster I know who use it is Glenn Beck
Thanks for showing us your collection and talking all about them! I appreciate it! I, myself, am NOT a pro video or audio gal,…but I *shure* love all the gear! (Yes, G.A.S. ==> Gear Acquisition Syndrome is a REAL thing…) I appreciate you taking the time to test all the things and give your opinion on them! YOU, my friend, are very TRUSTWORTHY!
And that's what it's all about! I got the PodMic based on your recommendation. The way I look at it is, if you weren't using other mics, then how would I know it was better than others or if there is something I should upgrade to?
Well, I think it's all related to pandemic, lockdown and stay at home periods with a lot of videocalls. How do I know it?... well, my collection also exploded in the last year and a half! Indeed, I will have to check how many do I currently have and report back :) My current favorite Sennheiser MD-441-U!
Your mics look like they are brand new right out of the box. You clearly take great care of your investment. I saw a video from a highly popular mic reviewer with scratches in a mics paint job. If I was an audio equipment manufacturer and wanted my products to be exposed to the market, I would send you one of everything. No, two. No, three. One for you, one for your wife and one for the display case. What a great looking studio/office and you showcase the products under review incredibly well. Also, you have a great voice for testing these mics. Seriously! Mike Delgaudio could make a 5.00 amazon mini mic sound decent. We never know what the mic really sounds like for us who speak in the normal human voice frequency range. Lol I love your reviews for that quality too. Bandrew's voice is also good for testing mics. Also Curtis Judd. That's it. You, Bandrew and Curtis Judd. If I want to hear what any mic probably sounds like for me, I search to see if your guys have reviewed it. That's what helps me decide. Oh, I only talk into it. Anyway, I've purchased six mic's starting with a low cost but good sounding AT 2005USB and quit with the RE20. I believe I staved off a severe addiction. I'll just watch the video's and enjoy your punny sense of humor.
I'm honored to be named among people like Bandrew and Curtis, both of whom I admire very much! I try to take care of my equipment, but it's funny you mentioned that because just the other day I noticed my SM7B has two chips in the pain on the bottom and I felt terrible about it! I know it's a common thing with that mic, but I thought I was doing a good job of avoiding it 😁
I just love this video. So much fun! You made me count my mic collection which is 21..... 4 Shure SM7B 4 Neewer NW-881 1 Takstar SGC-598 1 Pyle PDMIC58 2 COMICA CVM-WM100 4 Podmics 2 Rode wireless Go 1 VideoMic NTG 1 H4n Pro 1 Blue Yeti Wow...I'm actually shocked by that btw, I didn't really notice.
@@tombuck Me either. I felt bad at first but was instantly filled with joy because I realized that each mic represented where I was in my journey as a content creator. Each mic has a story and lesson that has made me better. So thank you for this breakthrough.
You convinced me to get the Samson Q9U after some experience with a Neewer NW-700, I hope you don't lead me down a path of microphone addiction after watching this...
Oh YESSSS!!!, I found you, who also has an addiction to collecting microphones, and we both do because it’s our job, though I do use them for gigs as it’s my job. My collections are SM7B 2x SM57 Pyle version of the 57 Podmic AT2020 AT4041 Rode M5 Match Pair PGA81 2x lavgo
Now you need a TLM 67 :P One cool thing that can be done to the Super 55 is put red foam in it and get an electronics guru to wire a LED inside that lights up with phantom power. Of course the blue foam can be used also but the examples I saw the red looked more devilish and sinister ;)
Funny, I started watching with the idea of asking you if you were planning to get the Lewitt 240 Pro hehe. I just equipped my podcasting studio with 3 of them. I also have a MKH 416 for my voice-overs.
@@tombuck it's not as quiet as I would like (440 Pure sounds like a nice upgrade in the future), but I'm really liking its sound (specially after a bit of tweaking in the noise gate of the Rodecaster).
This is an addiction that I know could easily happen to me as well...like have shelves on my wall with mics lined up on display sounds like heaven. But...I'm a Minnesotan with a pretty severe Hawaiian shirt addiction...100+...so...one thing at a time...
I like everything about this. I’m imagining a cold Minnesota winter night where the power has been cut by a snowstorm and one man, wearing a bright Hawaiian shirt, admires his microphone collection in a dark room waiting for the power to flow once again.
@@tombuck Ahhhh I've actually been in that exact scenario...minus the wall of mics ha. The shirts are a Weird Al thing...most of them are identical to Hawaiians he wears himself...still throws him off everytime I meet him! I've even given him a few over the years, and he's worn them all! Little known fact: Al has worked with The Aquabats on occasion. ;) Wait...this was supposed to be about microphones...my bad...🙃
Tooooooom Buck! So with you there. It’s getting bad…. It is a dangerous rabbit hole. But I’m done. 🤞🏽 Lewitt 440 Pure, SM7B, Yeti Blue , RE20, MV7, earthworks SR314, Okta MK-012, Antelope Synergy core(usb), Elgato wave3, shure MV51…. And interfaces…. The new replacement to the worker bee seems interesting. Thx for sharing as always.
Love your videos and have learnt a lot from you. Really appreciate your effort and honest commentary. I am wondering though where you got those coloured windscreens for the Shure mics and are they any good?
I haven't used the MKE400 myself, but it looks very similar to the Rode Videomics I use in terms of mounts. Since it has a screw hole in the bottom, you can attach it to a wide variety of boom arms/mic stands (even if you need to use a couple of adapters). This is an older video where I talk about how to do it a little bit: ruclips.net/video/i3ZuTF2J8qE/видео.html
Once upon a time microphones were just ‘needed tools’… then I started to listen to Tom and it became ‘interesting and cool’ tools… Talk to my doc and he says it’s not addiction (yet) so my credit card is safe (for now) hahaha… Oh and congrats for launching the community, due to travel and time difference I missed the live but looked at the replay 👍👍
@@tombuck hmmm ok let’s see if I get there, good thing is that if I do, I’ll have a great selection available when you will over to the Matterhorn to record your podcast 😄
Too many comments! Cant function! 1. Awesome video, I cant wait for the couples table with the microphones, 2. The brand puns has gotta be my favorite thing ever!!!! 3. Mic check 1, 2, 25 had me on the floor laughing, 4. Its an addiction but not a bad one, even though "hobby" does sound more productive, 5. Wally the weather man is the most famously known character ever, (who?)
Also, seen Jungle Cruise yet? You'll love all the punny writing! (Didn't you mention once your dream job would be to captain a boat on the jungle cruise at Disney? )
I found these little mounts that let me attach some to the wall, which is a really cool looking way to keep them. Otherwise I have them either on a boom arm or in my little cabinet that's behind my desk.
Tom, i appreciate all that you do but I need help. I am JUST getting into doong some talkong head guitar videos for a project, as well as possible vooceover work and maybe streaming. I just want to know for CONTENT creation, where should I start? Like what mlcmare you telling me to grab off the shelf. I am on a budget id like to be in the 150 range as its just a pipe project. Thank you as always!
I think there are a few things to consider: 1. Are you recording audio externally? If you have a nice interface with a strong preamp, then the world is your oyster. If it's something with a bit of a weaker preamp (like a 2i2), then it might be a good idea to consider a condenser mic since it'll run on phantom power and always give you plenty of gain. The Lewitt LCT240 Pro is a great place to start looking. 2. Are you recording directly to you camera? If so, then a mic with a 3.5mm jack is key. I love the Rode Videomic NTG, but Deity also makes some awesome options within your budget. You can even use a long 3.5mm cable to move the mic away from the camera and mount it out of frame like a boom if needed. 3. If you don't have an interface and you want something a bit beyond a videomic, then a USB mic is probably the way to go. The Sennheiser Profile that I made a video on recently is a super solid choice that'll be available for ordering soon. The Rode NT-USB+ is also phenomenal and one of my favorites (you can also use the Rode Videomic NTG as a USB mic if you want some added versatility).
@@tombuck Wow thank you so much. Currently I have a scarlett 2nd gen 2i2. Seems like the lewitt is my way to go for versatility. I have a little movo shotgun mic i love for recording on the go and its super solid for the price IMO. Thanks so much!
I found these little mounts that let me attach some to the wall, which is a really cool looking way to keep them. Otherwise I have them either on a boom arm or in my little cabinet that's behind my desk.
Hey Tom... What an awesome channel! Congratulations and keep doing so well! A quick question. I have the chance to buy a Rode Videomic NTG very cheap, but I would like to use it through the Rodecaster Pro. Can I use an SC3 connector to convert TRRS to TRS, and then plug it to VXLR+ adaptor in order to connect the Videomic NTG mic to the XLR input of the Rodcater Pro? Is there any constraint to do this? Could the quality or performance suffer any kind of problem? Thanks a lot guru!
You can definitely do that, or just plug the Videomic straight into the smartphone channel. I've had mixed results with this, but the Videomic is really great and if you can get it at a bargain, it's definitely worth it. And thank you for the kind words!
Hi Tom. Ģreetings from Ireland. I have the Rodecaster pro with a pod mic and procaster mic. I recorded a lot in large rooms and the quality of those two are mainly geared for close environments. My guests sound better on the Shure SM58. Could you recommend a mic that would do the same in a recording environment that's large as the sm58 but one that is better than the sm58 for quality. Best wishes and thank you John
Hey John! All the mics you mentioned are dynamic mics, which is exactly what I’d suggest for your situation since they do tend to be better at rejecting sound. You may want to look into something with a super cardioid pickup pattern (possibly even the Shure Beta 58), which will be even more selective about what sound to pick up. My other suggestion is kind of strange, but it’s worked for me in the past, and that’s to try a shotgun mic. Something like the Rode NTG2 or Audio Technica AT897 positioned really close to the person speaking could help quite a bit.
😆 Tom my bro the purple SM7B foam on the MV7 is everything 😆 I tested the MV7 and wanted a color on it so I improvised doing the same thing and it looks like putting dad’s hat on the kid 😆😆😆💯. This video just feed the addiction of many 🤦🏾♂️💯🖤😜
@@tombuck omg we should have Heather and Tina go LIVE with the custom M7V’s I felt like we were doing a house remodel getting her colors how she wanted 🤦🏾♂️😤 it should be here in a week or so 😆
Fun! I think it's pretty cool that you have a hobby that integrates so well with your job. We might have to start a game - "What mic will Tom use in his next video???" Also, very glad you were able to turn yourself around, but the real question is, "What if the hokey-pokey REALLY IS what it's all about?"
I’d definitely rather a single U87 and an MKH416 over 25 mics worth the same total value! I now only buy ‘industry standard’ mics used, because they hold their value really well, let’s me buy and sell whilst trying them at little to no risk!
I've currently only got a Blue Yeti but I'm still seriously considering the Rode NT1 for vocal work. You might say I'm going down the road for Rode....!
@@tombuck well, for you I don't think the guilt should apply since you're actually sharing solid content about each and every one. So you're helping people learn about those mics. As opposed to me stuck in analysis paralysis when it comes to talking about my tech on RUclips... lol
For $4006 you can get 25 microphones of really good to great quality. In contrast, my main DSLR was $3600 new and my most frequently used lens was $1200, and DSLRs don't hold their value. And that's just one DSLR body and one lens; all serious photographers are equipped with at least one backup camera body and typically use multiple lenses of various focal lengths. And that doesn't even cover lighting... So compared to photography G.A.S., microphone G.A.S. is actually quite thrifty.
Tom you should see a video by Connor Evan, who used your video as an example to attack the Podmic cause he had failed to get it to even work properly 😂
That was an interesting video. It sounds like his mic was defective because, even though the PodMic does lean towards the high end, it doesn't usually sound like that. His sounded almost as bad as the NW800 but his other mics sounded nice, which means he was definitely setting everything up properly. But I can't blame someone if they get a defective product and then want to move away from it. My pet peeve is when people use the "$600 Rodecaster" as an excuse for why things sound good. With processing turned off, it's basically just an interface, similar to much more affordable options like the 2i2.
@@tombuck Agreed 100%. I use an Audient ID14 and would have been happy with the iD4. The Podmic is one of the best mics on the market, but it just lacks the muddy low end that many Americans like because it takes off the highs in their accent. I don't own the Podmic anymore but its incredible. What I'd love you to try is the Earthworks Icon Pro - now that's a mic that literally has no weaknesses. It's next on my hit list.
@@tombuck And I think it is important to always listen to science! Just bought a Rode NT-1. Saw your video test driving that beauty...man, what a great microphone! Found a used one with the better pop filter.

Collecting Mics is one of my favorite things!
I love your collection, especially that retro one you’ve been using.
A Like for the intro alone haha! another great one Tom! I usually comment from my alt premium account but it’s always incredible to see the channel growth!! Keep up the great work and congrats on the success!
Thanks so much! The support is always appreciated 🙏
I appreciate that! Glad you like your mic collection!
Holy mic! You’re still doing ok, there’s other people with even more mics. It’s still a hobby but I believe in your addiction. Keep going! Lol
Thanks for all of your wonderful videos.
Haha, thank you for understanding and supporting my addiction 😁
So... To sum it up. You just entered into the same addiction of podcastage! Personally, i just bought the mxl-990 and i love it. even a little more than my Neat WorkerBee !
Once I have to put barcodes on my mics to keep track of them, that's when I'll know I've hit a new level.
As an artist,...I got addicted to flex nib pens and I kept buying vintage as well as new pens in my NEVER ending quest to find "that perfect pen that laid down the best line variation to match my art style" After spending huge amounts of money,...one day I just walked in my studio, noticed the amount of pens all over the place and thought, "OH MY LORD,...WHAT AM I DOING?!?!?!!!"
I ended up keeping just two and sold or gave away the rest!
I remember the time when it was just the Podmic and I've always thought of you as the Podmic guy! Really love your reviews on those mikes.
Thank you! I remember getting the PodMic and then agonizing over whether or not to get a second one so that I'd have a matching pair. 😁
I will say, that even after getting all these other mics I'm always pleasantly surprised when I go back to the PodMic. It sounds fantastic, especially when used with a signal booster.
I had to rewind and watch you point to your worst mic like 3 times hahaha 🤣
And now to figure out how to hook up all of your mics at the same time for a mega showdown… 🤔
Yes, that was a nice touch, Tom being too polite and discreet to call-out the worst one here. I bet a lot of us recognized it right away, though, which is interesting since he just showed one edge of it.
Haha, it’s almost become a meme at this point. Now I can never get rid of it 😁
I saw the gold and knew EXACTLY what it was
You and I need to have a "Mic-Off" lol 🤣 Great video, Tom!
But I like all my mics on 😁😉
Turning yourself around is indeed what it is all about
I have 15 mics at the moment, mostly classics and discontinued models.
I realized the untapped potential for reviews, as most of mine do not have any reviews at all on the RUclips.
I've started working through them.
So, if vintage/discontinued mics appeal to you, let me know and I'll link to them once I get them posted.
Absolutely! It's fascinating to me when a mic can still work and sound great after so many years.
That's quite the Mic selection, Tom! Love it tho -- I end up using the PodMic for the Pod, and the Sennheiser MKH 416 for talking heads vids.✌🏼
That makes sense. I do something similar since these are mostly for podcasting and the Rode Videomic NTG is my mic for videos.
Our meetings would have the best sound quality 👍
@@tombuck HAHAHA true! One would be considered "sober" when they're less sibilant HAHA
I think about you every time I use the Super 55! I now 100% associate it with you, and that's a good thing.
Glad you're trying out the Lewitt!! Can we expect to see a review soon? 🤔
Yes! I'm absolewittly loving it so far! It seems to work really well with my voice.
yeah... I suffer from this too!
Are you really _suffering_ though? 😉
And that's what it's all about!
I got the PodMic based on your recommendation. The way I look at it is, if you weren't using other mics, then how would I know it was better than others or if there is something I should upgrade to?
Hey I like this perspective!
That definitely pushed things over the edge and was an excuse to dive in 100%! And Sennheiser makes some really fantastic microphones.
I know it's a common thing with that mic, but I thought I was doing a good job of avoiding it 😁
@@tombuck black magic marker can hide it from the camera. Hobby paint otherwise. Peace and thanks again for all you do

Haha, thank you! Last year was actually my last year teaching, so now all the bad joke energy gets directed here 😬
You Shure do have a lot of microphones!
I think there were still one or two that didn’t make the cut 😬
I'm pretty sure @podcastage has something beyond an addiction! HAHA

Yo compre el PodMic luego de ver tu video! Tambien entiendo que ya no lo uses porque te encantan los mics y siempre vas a estar experimentando con diferentes modelos. Btw la calidad de audio y sonido en tus videos esta a otro nivel.

One cool thing that can be done to the Super 55 is put red foam in it and get an electronics guru to wire a LED inside that lights up with phantom power. Of course the blue foam can be used also but the examples I saw the red looked more devilish and sinister ;)
The blue is what sold me on it honestly, but I have friends who have been asking about changing the colors so I'm glad to know it's possible!
Funny, I started watching with the idea of asking you if you were planning to get the Lewitt 240 Pro hehe. I just equipped my podcasting studio with 3 of them. I also have a MKH 416 for my voice-overs.
I'm realyl liking the Lewitt so far! It seems to work with my voice in a way that's almost the best I've heard so far.

@@tombuck Ahhhh I've actually been in that exact scenario...minus the wall of mics ha. reporterstore.com and they're pretty nice. They don't have the plastic ring that the official one has, but that's actually better for the MV7.
@@tombuck thanks, does it work as well on the MV7 as the SM7Bs does?
whoa Tom, can you do an episode on MKE400 and if it's easier to mount on rigs compare to traditional mic mount?
I haven't used the MKE400 myself, but it looks very similar to the Rode Videomics I use in terms of mounts. Since it has a screw hole in the bottom, you can attach it to a wide variety of boom arms/mic stands (even if you need to use a couple of adapters). This is an older video where I talk about how to do it a little bit: ruclips.net/video/i3ZuTF2J8qE/видео.html

It's Bluetiful.
@@tombuck yeah I’m just waiting to hear a review on it Lol.
I think there are a few things to consider:

Best wishes and thank you
John
Love the puns😂
Now, this is an addiction that I can understand.

I love it!
Yeah....mic addiction... the struggle is real... well, I don’t know if it’s REALLY a struggle 😅 But yeah... I can relate.
It's more about feeling guilty, not so much that I don't want to keep buying mics 😁
I have nine microphones - but my real addiction is headphones, owning 56!

@@tombuck all the way I still have access to the microphone if I need to show off! :)
Scenario: the house is burning 🔥 and you can only grab one? #microphone

Hehe :-) I do observe that this topic will really come :-) next is light collections :-)
Oh yeah. Truly, light and sound make up such a huge part of video production.
I have 7 (including Comica lav and Saramonic for the gopro) and I love them all too
Where do you get the colorful windscreens?

I think I might have more mics than you Tom...am also a mic lover/collector...5 SM58, and 5 Behringer XM8500....and plenty other ones...
It's really fun once you see how different mics can be. I'm sure it won't end here for me.
I bought the PodMic a couple of days ago because of you :P :P I also made a DIY pop filter out of a 3d printed form, some nylons and an old windscreen which I chopped :P the end result is very good! I can share a pic if you like :D
I would love to see that 3D printed pop filter!
@@tombuck I will upload it tomorrow, currently we have many power shortages here in Athens, I live really close to the wildfires, but so far my home is safe. Civil protection ordered evacuation.
Hey Tom, have you ever tried the Heil PR40?
I haven't, but it seems like an outstanding mic!
I'm sending over some professionals who will take you to rehab tomorrow at 5 AM sharp.
They’ll never take me!
@@tombuck "Sir, turn off the interface and unlock the door. We're from the government and we're here to help."
@@tombuck Haha. I can imagine as you get carried out, you maniacally yell, "you'll never find all the microphones!"
Hi Tom, Max from Italy great video, I'm also MicAaholic :-) and It's you fault, first with Rodecaster Pro :-) and with the others...I swa your video and..My first mic was Blue YEti then I got a RODE POD Mic, than a Rode M1 , 1 Shure SM58 then a Behringer XM8500, Many thanks TOm! best regards CIAOOO
Sounds like a great collection! I think it can look strange to someone who doesn't use mics when they see a huge collection, but when you're the one using them you really start to know how each one works a little differently and might be better suited for a specific purpose. I love it.
@@tombuck that's it! I forgot also 3 Behringer XM 1800 for karaoke. But I' d like to ask you if you do a review about Warm Audio WA 87 and electrovoice RE 20 it would be interesting...ciao Max
Treasure room!
What a Mictacular collection...... Hey i'm trying here, not as talented on the puns.
I think it was quite Spinktacular.
can you make a video about different microphones for different voices women or men voices .
top 3 microphone for lower voices hie voices / man woman etcetera etcetera
or woman woman woeman top 3 hahaha
This is a great idea! It can definitely be tough to find the right mic for a specific voice.
Mutt Lange chose an Audix OM-3 for Shania Twain to do a world tour with years ago. They can be had for cheap.
I bought one over 20 years ago and love it.
