Episode 264: Let's Talk About My Dumbest Video: The Deluxe Photo Encabulator - Кино
Here's the finished Deluxe Photo Encabulator video:
ruclips.net/video/JEyh4y7BgmU/видео.html
This days I was thinking what’s going on with you’re Chanel, now pops up and I tough something it’s different, not just the angle, but the colors… and I’ve checked in the description and here you go:-), you’ve switched to Sony🤦🏻♂️! Good luck man, at lest the audio it’s even better 🧔🏻. I’m sticking with r5 and R😜
There's a new one, the HyperEncabulator: ruclips.net/video/5nKk_-Lvhzo/видео.html
The crew asked how he was able to read the script with such a straight face and he said, "It sounds like everything else you have me read."
I think the level of hilarity starts to show up when you have the understanding that almost every other word is utter nonsense, moreso than normal marketing gibberish. So, for those who are used to spouting gibberish, it's a regular day at the office. For us tech folk, it's like the dog turning his head sideways after hearing something like WTF did he just say??
The Rockwell cabinet (yes, with the squeaky door) was an actual product. Mike Kraft did a regular corporate marketing video for it, and then we had extra time and made the Retroincabulator video as an internal “ice-breaker” for meetings.
I was the editor on it.
Thanks for compiling the history!
That's awesome to know!
Thank you for commenting! You're the perfect person to ask a question I've had for a while, did Mike Kraft really do that performance in one take?
@@thecianinator This would have been probably 2 or 3 single takes (master and safety) and some cutaways. I’m sure that this point, that script “lives rent-free” in his head, but at the time he used an ear prompter, so wasn’t memorized.
@@pixelsandtape7846 Well the continuity is boss. I'm an editor myself and I scrubbed over your cuts framed by frame and couldn't find a single discrepancy. Not in limb position, not in digit position, not even in the wrinkles in his suit, so kudos. You did awesome.
@@thecianinator The BEST compliment an editor could have!
This is a SURPRISING amount of history for a joke, thanks for putting this all in context!
Right?! Kind of insane really.
Yes, Yes, I can't imagine the extra work & time you invested into this prank.
I hope you can turn this into funny dollars 💸 😂
I used to do PR for Rockwell Automation. I can confirm, the retro encabulator was a meme before memes.
Seriously?! you really did PR? That's amazing.
That had to be a cool job with perks 👍
My great grandfather worked with Tesla (Nikola, not the electric car) on the ORIGINAL Encabulator - the predecessor to the Retro and Turbo Encabulator. He would tell stories of how difficult it was to maintain the flux bearings while ensuring the correct positronic alignment of the scissor switches. In the end, genius triumphed! And now, you proudly carry on the tradition of understanding the true purpose of the Encabulator. May your quasistatic regeneration oscillators ever be aligned with your phase inverters!
I'm impressed! I'm assuming he walked uphill in the snow both ways to work?
@@tombuck Yes! Twice a day.
Nikola Tesla - the man behind AC electricity we use today.
It’s the mechanical engineering version of “All your base are belong to us”
Hey Tom! Watching this in Germany today and thought you might like to know that the translation of that book title is “The Paper for Electrotechnical Static Thunder and Lightning”. Now that’s what I call 100% commitment in service of a joke!
Wow! I’m even more impressed now 🤯
Ok one thing you have to understand is that people from the 60's to the 80's didn't have much in the form of cell phones and pocket games so we read the data sheets of everything and most companies had them either in the toilets or lounge areas and everybody would be sitting there reading data sheets. I still recall all the ingredients from air fresheners in bathrooms. Propellants like propane were common 😳
There is truth to @2engjnr2 's comment
Had no idea it was a whole universe going back almost 100 years! Everything about the encabulator is awesome!
It's quite the rabbit hole to dive down.
" Heather baby, it's that time again for me to stuff you down the rabbit hole 🐇 - - - your such a trooper glad you got my back. Tallyhoe " 😂
I appreciate the education on this deeply important topic. I’m prepared to wow all my friends at dinner parties. Also, that first dude is highly Trebeck-like, so automatically authoritative.
Yes! "Automatically authoritative" is the perfect way to describe him.
Two additional thoughts:
1) Please sell a small run of official Enthusiasm Project Encabulators.
2) We need a new secret series that is Heather's reaction during your entire Encabulation adventure.
Haha, Heather was super on board. She loved how much fun I was having and thought it was great. Plus I’d already forced her to sit through the original videos when I first found them 😬
Heather must be a trooper that's got ur back ❤
Im going to watch this video in a little bit, but I just have to say right off the bat, "It takes a lot of work to do dumb stuff" is brilliant...that video was freaking epic! Do more dorky things...I love it!
It’s one of my favorite mottos 😁
TOM'S favorite motto - - - " Do Dorky Things 🤪 and love it ❤ "
The thing that makes this so enjoyable for those of us in the industry (in my case, industrial maintenance), is this. This cabinet is a legit motor control system. There is a motor relay, real buttons and switches that actually do something in the real world. The companies are all legit companies that make parts for rotating equipment and controls. Only the narration is (near) complete gibberish. The fun is in the delivery. For other tech geeks out there, this is what we sound like to other people.
Thank you Tom, my favourite youtube video of 2021 now has some context. This was pure fun, not dumb 😂👍
Haha, I mean dumb as a positive thing in this case 😁
Pretty dumb FUNNY 😁 😂
I love high-effort geeky jokes that are almost impossibly niche, and so I love everything about this.
This makes me very happy to hear 😁
Ear yee Ear yee Ear yee - - - " Do Dorky Things 🤪 and love it ❤ "
Motto time 😂
That video was pure Internet Gold. Loved it and love your dedication to this channel.
Haha thank you very much!
I hope you can turn this internet gold into green paper that's legal tender 😂
Thank you for explaining this funny story. As a technical guy I loved it for its over the top use of jargon who’s is eventually meaningless. This made my day
So , I have been working with Rockwell automation products and we watched this at work back in the 90's. The components he was showing controls electric motors . There were some slick marketing ploys back in the day. Enjoying your videos.
Really?! What a small world. 🤯
Scott, I was at Rockwell from 95-98-ish… I worked on this video, and am always surprised at it’s reach!
Too cool! I knew it was a joke because I like the way you put together you vids.It also demonstrates how to put together a great video and cover mistakes in takes within the editing process. Awesome!
I'm glad you enjoyed both videos!
Yeah, I did learn several things, definitely help me when I go into production 👍
You have NO IDEA how much I'm learning right now with this video. Workflow-wise, general culture, creation process. I hope you can keep creating this type of content. Thanks.
I love this- it was fun to make so I'm happy it's been helpful!
Great entertainment 😂
I love this so much. I laughed so hard at the first vid, I knew it had to be a joke but I wasn’t completely sure as I’m new to the channel. That slow realisation after total confusion was a delight.
Quite the emotional journey! I always want to "provide value" as they say so it was definitely a bit nerve wracking to put out a video that was just goofy. But it was a ton of fun 👍
Ton of laughs too 😂
I loved your original video and really enjoyed this follow up. There is a whole lot to learn just from your production and editing of the original and you letting us see behind the curtain here. Thanks for all you bring to the community. Tom Buck ROCKS!!!
I love this, thanks so much Jim!
I totally agree " TOM BUCK ROCKS 🪨 " 😂
Too cool! I knew it was a joke because I like the way you put together your vids and too much just didn’t make sense. Lol. It also demonstrates how to put together a great video and cover mistakes in takes within the editing process. Awesome!
wow I had no idea this went back so far but it makes perfect sense now 😂😂😂 This behind the scenes was absolutely worth the 18 minutes to watch it!
Thanks Aaron! It's just such a goofy, bizarre story that I really wanted to share it.
A great investment of hilarious time, when most people waste time and don't care or don't realize it 😉
I picked up on it right away and immediately loved it. Genius! Love that you showed some outtakes in this video. I also hate obnoxious thumbnails, you don't do them and that was my first hint something was different. Lol. Awesome
I’m glad that the thumbnail was a clue and not taken seriously 😬
Love the vids, keep it up and you'll get to a 100k
That was a fantastic video in the first place, I do hope you'll just let many other goofy ideas get into your schedule. WE appreciate it !!!!!!
I'm all about doing more goofy things 👍
I remember watching that first video of the turbo encabulator a decade ago, Its become a tradition that when we have a new hire in my area(I work in IT) we show them that video lol. Kudos for the joke and producing your own version of it.
Oh man, I can only imagine how those new hires feel 😁
True inside jokes that only a few people get (or even see) are the best. I had seen a couple of your videos, but the encabulator made me subscribe.
Really?! I love that that was the video that finally sealed the deal 😁
I recently watched a very funny 😁 video posted on the infamous RUclips platform from Mr. Steve Lahto Esq. That is similarly hilarious 😂 I think Mr Tom Buck would appreciate and enjoy 🤣
Oops 😬 the boss just drove up 😮I better get back to mowing the yard before I get socked in my funny bone 😂
Wait ✋️ before I go back to slaven, the infamous RUclips just sent me - - - Vault : The Turbo Encabulator Deconstructed
From Mr. Steve Lahto Esq. Vault channel 😂
another massage for my 😁 funnybone 😂
Hey Tom. When you say that those cabinets are full of nothing or miscellaneous junk, they aren’t. That’s an Allen Bradley Intelicentet motor control center (MCC) and the cabinets are full of motor starters, soft starters, fuses, and motor protection.
And of course some prefabulated aluminite.
THIS! We shot a marketing video on this set, then went back and did this parody script after 😊
Enjoyed your original video. About 1/3 of the way through I was thinking either the video was stupid, or i was stupid. :) Keep up the good work.
It's definitely not you, it was the video 😁
awesome video Tom! hope more people jump into the inside joke and make more videos like this
That would be awesome. Gotta love a good inside joke!
Dude I loved the Photo Encabulator video. That was amazing!
Thank you!
My father worked for Rockwell and the Retro-encabolator vid was always brought out for job fairs and trade shows.
Dude these video history essays are some of your best vids!
It’s kind of fun to do something a little different. 👍
Mr. TOM BUCK, this video I enjoyed so much I subscribed 😂
Keep up the great & hilarious 😂 videos 👌👏👍
Thanks so much for this follow up 😁 put the biggest smile on my face!!!
One of the reason's it would have done well is the number of people that would have shared it 😂 Sadly I shared that video more than any of your other videos lol
I'm happy you liked it enough to share it! That's awesome. 🙌
@@tombuck it lended itself to sharing to a broader spectrum of people. Such a great video 😂
The fact that major companies have been doing this for years is hilarious! 😂😂😂
Right?! I guess it's mostly for internal use, but I'm 100% ok with it. I wish more companies did goofy things like this.
Serns just released the HyperEncabulator
Time to upgrade!
They say the Dharma Initiative had almost perfected the Quantum Encabulator in the early 80’s on the Lost island
I'm watching this one year to the day! Great video!
Awesome! Thank you!
This was such a great project, Tom! :)
Thanks Leo! It means a lot coming from you!
Hahaha I literally laughed out loud when 4:24 you said "What much work it takes to do dumb stuff."
One of my favorite personal mottos 😁
This is amazing and I had no idea 😂
The training video is all about Programmable Logic Circuit systems by Allen Bradley (a subsidiary of Rockwell Automation).
Well, the product was… but the script is absolutely a joke 😂
Epic! Just epic! You should submit it for an Emmy Award, or a Tubie (or whatever RUclips has).
Streamie? I think that’s a thing?
"Encabulator Cinematic Universe" 😁😁
There are 31 movies and 18 streaming series in progress. The theme park opens in 2028.
I really appreciated the history lesson! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Mr. Buck,
I really loved both the encabulator video as well as this "making-of".
I'm a school teacher and every year (before the pandemics) i usually create a kind of "phony class" for some of my pupils for the "primeiro de abril" (april fools).
I love that. Goofy jokes with students can really be the best. On more than one occasion I’ve dropped a pile of empty MacBook boxes that the students thought were full 😬
@@tombuck Heheheh! That's a fantastic idea! Did they think the "macs" were awards for the students with the best grades?
@@tombuck I sometimes used "phony lessons" to deconstruct wrong concepts. I am a science school teacher and in recent years here in my country numerous pseudo-scientific theories have proliferated among the young people (I believe that the same situation has occurred in the USA). Before the pandemic, I set up some phony-classes whose first-parts followed the pseudo-scientific concepts that were present in the minds of my pupils. In the second part of the class, I exaggerated these concepts to absurd levels and then began to destroy the pseudo-scientific thesis with facts, logic, and, where possible, some simple experiments.
I thought it was hilarious....sometimes it's good to just have a little fun. You know the saying...."Don't take life so seriously; none of us are going to make it out alive". Or something like that....😂. It was a great video.that I shared with several people! My wife was like "what? 🧐" 😂😂
“What??” Is one of my favorite reactions 😁
(As long as it’s intentional, I mean)
@@tombuck haha....yeah her "what" was from a non-tech person asking what all this means....me, a tech person...."I don't know! But it's Awesome!". 😂 to
No need to apologize for being you. Your creativity is to the moon. I wanted one after seeing it.
Just 1 question: does the encabulator make phone calls
It can do whatever your heart desires 😁
I can't help but chuckle every time I hear "dingle arm"
Hehe
I legit subscribed because of this video and the encabulator video.
Really? I love it! Glad you’re here 👍
within seconds I knew this was all wrong like looking at Rube Goldberg machine. I had a great laugh, thanks it is wonderful to mess with people every now and again
great stuff! Thanks for having a sense of humor. The world needs to laugh! -Marty
I've heard that laughter is in fact the best medicine.
great history of the encabulator also they made a new one few months back the Hyperencabulator
I haven’t watched one second of this video but if it’s as good as the photo encabulator I’ll love it
Well done, thanks
Thank you for putting the effort in for the history of one of my favourite videos. Do we know who wrote the orginal article?
To be fair, the turbo version encabulator did prevent side fumbling.
The cabinets shown here ~01:35 looks like a real power relay (motor control full voltage starter?), not just "a bunch of parts that mean nothing".
I first saw the '77 version when I was in EE at Purdue in the '80s. We had a lot of connections (pun intended) with Rockwell, GM, et al.
I think there was a GM engineer giving a talk about the new Corvette that was coming out and used the T.E. film as the opener of his talk. Introduced it with complete sincerity.
Awesome video Tom!!!! 👍
Thanks so much!
@@tombuck Yeah, I just did another live stream. I'm somewhat getting better but still struggling so much with audio sync, OBS and the Mac with desktop audio playback, slide overlays, and more. Your videos have been so helpful and hopefully one day I'll get this unique be awesome art form down.
Right on! Like a lot of other people, when I first saw the original video, I was like WTF? Is he having a stroke? I didn’t want to actually leave a comment in case maybe you were so I didn’t say anything. But I was silently wondering… So thank you for the explanation video it makes it all snapping to focus. Additionally, now I’m a huge fan of the photoincabulator, the turboincabulator and the retroincabulator; and especially the history of all of them. Thanks for your contribution to the lore! Awesome! Lmao!
I appreciate your concern for my well being 😁
@@tombuck Absolutely! You rock! Love all the awesome content delivered in an informative and entertaining way. The corny puns are my favorite!
Great story, nice entertainment. Thanks for sharing 👍🏽
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it!
I love the statement,,,,"The Internet did not even exist then?
There is also a Newer version of the Encabulator Series where the Technology gets applied to Cyber Systems💡
I love this joke. Gonna watch you're now . Thanks for the history lesson
Another message from Big Encabulator. _Damn_ the corporate overlords.
I’m what you call “a shill”.
Hi Tom. Have you ever had a problem with your headphones not working on the rodecaster pro. For instance this evening it worked no problem with the podmic, Neumann 102 and dynamic 705. Then I went back to them again and the headphones were not working. I seem to be doing everything right and my headphones are pioneer broadcast quality. This happens almost every time I use the Rodecaster. Would it have anything to do with headphone settings on Rodecaster. Microphones registering perfectly.
Thanks in advance Tom
John
Hmm, I've never had this issue at all, aside from accidentally pressing the mute/solo buttons on a channel without realizing it (and sadly I've done this on quite a few occasions 🤦🏻♂️ ). If you're sure nothing like that is happening, then it could be worth reaching out to Rode's support team.
@@tombuck Hi Tom. I think that I have rectified it. Went into settings then advanced and then headphones. Headphone booster was on when it left the factory. So I switched it off and the on but had to click on yes or no if I wanted I t or not. Does that make sense. Thank you for coming back to me. I enjoy all of your videos.
Stay safe you both

Aquabats??? Subscribed!
Hey Tom, kind of an off topic here, looking into buying the sm7b, saw your videos on it, would you say the cloudlifter is better than the fethead? If not, do I need the fethead phantom? Or just the standard version? Thanks in advance!
You'd only need the regular FetHead (the Phantom will allow Phantom power to pass through it, and even though I'm sure there's a situation where someone might need that, I honestly can't think of one.
Both devices are great. The FetHead can connect directly to your mixer, which means fewer cables, but I've heard it's more prone to RF interference. I've never had any issues, but depending on your location, it might happen.
I like the FetHead quite a bit but I also like the Klark Teknik CT1, which is very similar and only costs $40.
@@tombuck so, with a focusrite and a SM7B I don't even need to have phantom power on? Great! Will look into the option you gave me. Very thankful for the info ✌️
Like a prized autographed baseball, I surely hope you place the Deluxe Photo Encabulator inside a lit shadow box that is mounted on your wall, in the background view of your main camera shot, so that it forever stays a prop in all your future videos!
It’s guarded with lasers and pressure sensitive triggers 👍
(It’s in the little cabinet I got from Target)
I’m now 74 seconds into this video and I F*ing LOVE it hahahaha I love that you did this. I find this stuff hilarious
Thank you!

Ok so I gave you more credit than you deserve. Being old I could have seen some of this in the past but I didn't. I thought you created it all from scratch. But it was still fun and it's good to do something crazy every once in a while. You should auction off the Deluxe Photo Encabulator for charity...
For charity and for science! And yes, I stand on the shoulders of those who came before.
As a fan of retro tech, I wish more modern tech used Blinken lights to denote certain operations.
Vox Books is one of the few modern managers who do.
e viideo was so hillarious - i couldn't stop laughing over the fact that i did not understand a single word at all :)
🤣
Thank you! 😁
Will you be doing a video on the tascam mixcast 4 vs Rode?
As of now I don't think so since I don't have access to the Tascam, but who knows what the future may bring 😁
@@tombuck Thanks for your reply! Honestly I'm waiting on your feed back on the tascam! No pressure! Thanks!
When I first saw this video I was like this is what I have been waiting for. Till the terms just kept going and having no ending did I realize not a real thing. I originally thought this was a camera kit or something for making with a raspberry pi.
Haha, it was quite the emotional journey!
Just brilliant, I love it
Thank you!
I memorized the script!!! I think the script is crazy and I have watched the videos over and over!!!
That video was awesome, it's what make the internet so much worth it.
Thanks so much! The internet is a strange place 😁
Don't forget the, "Dingle arm!!!" Or the turtle coil, to reproduce sinusoidal interference!!! Please listen!!!🥺
Ok....I'm off to watch this masterpiece!!! lol
BTW I'm wishing to see the upgraded version of the incabulator (lights, smoke, plus whatever)
Me too! haha
Super cool story 👍 'Googling' around the topic it appears that some people took the time to translate some of the stuff in French... So maybe, one day I need to build a Swiss version and see if a model 'Made in Switzerland' can be as successful as a Rolex or the Omega Speedmaster (first watch on the moon). hahaha
You now being an expert, here is a little extract...
«Depuis plusieurs années, des travaux se poursuivent pour apporter la perfection à l'idée grossièrement conçue d'une transmission qui fournirait non seulement un courant réactif inverse pour une utilisation dans des détracteurs de phase unilatéraux, mais serait également capable de synchroniser automatiquement des grammètres cardinaux. Un tel instrument est le turbo-encabulateur.»
I think this is a fantastic idea. Someone also said that it's been translated to German too! I can't imagine how tough that must be 😁
I'm going to enjoy this video.... :) just clicking on it now...
I did it Tom.... I updated my LOUD FAN in my HyperDeck Studio Mini..... Video is up today! Thanks for all the support. I hope we can collab some day.
That would be awesome! I need to check out your video- the fan in my ATEM randomly goes bananas sometimes.
Totally watched it originally to see what changed everything but finished it because of its goofiness. LOL
I am laughing almost as hard at this video as I did the original.
I love to hear it!
Id pumped my concentration level.. but the use of the blue color, made me suspicious..then, was just enjoying how sensless the meaning could go.. i realized it had some history meaning, maybe a tribute to someone that died or so.. afterwards i google'd it, and learned that there were some guys with sense of humour even then.. ;-) ..as now!
I love that you took the extra step of digging into it on your own, that's awesome!
@@tombuck time..i have lots of it..

Thank you dear fellow nerd🤓😁
I'm not a nerd, just a broken old 64 year old welder, that hasn't broke my funny bone yet 😂
Love you efforts 👌
I don't think it is dumb as your intentions were good and you clearly put much effort into it. That is what I teach my children.
Thank you! I meant dumb in a good way, if that makes sense 😁
Hey Tom,
Can you make a video on "Why Final Cut Pro is worth it?"
That's a great idea! The short answer would be:
•Price (one time $300)
•Reliability (especially compared to something like Premiere)
•Speed (real time rendering creates a much better playback experience than any other editor I've ever used)
•Features (people still think FCP is limited because the initial X release lost a lot of functionality, but it can go head to head and even beyond just about any other system)
Thanks@@tombuck
The 2024 Encabulator-GPT videos are going to be off the hook.
