I really want to explore the medieval arts more, it's so forgotten in modern culture. Mostly the paintings are viewed as primitive and dull, people have never heard the astonishing beauty of music of especially the late middle ages, and the pictures you showed of the embroidery certainly exceeded my expectations! Great video, I look forward to checking out your other videos on medieval art :) Do you have any recommendations of medieval literature?

Thanks for watching, and for the comment! I've been really enjoying learning about the art from the era. As for recommendations, I am not sure I am the most well-read in literature that stems from the medieval era. I have read many of the Icelandic sagas for a class on Icelandic history I took in college. I remember enjoying those. I also enjoyed reading Beowulf. I feel like it is late medieval, if it can be considered medieval at all, but I enjoyed Dante's Inferno as well. I read that as part of a Humanities course in college and the discussion was great. In the past year I have read Forbidden Rites which dissects a surviving manuscript on necromancy magic from the middle ages. I also read A Medieval Book of Beasts: The Second Family Beastiary, which was the text + commentary from a beastiary. I also read and loved Basilisks and Beowulf by Tim Flight which discussed the role of monsters in Anglo-Saxon literature. Hopefully something in this wall of text piques your interest!

@@badbettybooks4001 Thank you! I feel particularly drawn to the Icelandic sagas, I've heard that the writing style inspired some modern authors which is interesting. Forbidden Rites also sounds intriguing!
