My parents got me a Tag Heuer Calibre 16 after my graduation and although I always longed for the Speedmaster and at times I felt like "ugh, couldn't it have been a Speedy.." I realized that it is even better then the Speedy. It's what my parents got me because they knew I liked "that kind of watch" (the Speedy) and felt it was more appropriate at that time - and they're right: It's the perfect watch now to me.
And no matter where else you look, this one will always have that "graduation present" and "parents bought it for me" story. That kind of stuff is irreplaceable. Love it and thank you for sharing the story brother!
This was not my first luxury watch - it is the best watch I have ever had. The fact that someone has taken an older watch and rejuvenated it, makes it very special for me as I was born in 1957. I was a deep-sea diver in the Navy, and they gave me a Rolex to use. This watch is much better - as the other watches died from electromagnetic issues. Thank you for your videos - we have enjoyed watching them many times.
And to think my dad was also born in 1957 and 2913 is a scramble of my Birth Date and Year... These kinds of stories just hit differently. What a special story Nogan AND you have the experience to back it up too! Just incredible and thank you for sharing this with me, we both get to wear our Seamasters with pride ;)
One of the most beautiful watches ever made. For my 30th birthday last year I purchased mine, albeit the slightly modernised version called Seamaster 300 Master Coaxial. No regrets at all. I adore it and I will keep it forever.
It's a slow burn. Must say on it's own it can be a bit weird, but as a part of a collection it always feeling like an "occasion" when you have it on. And thank you for taking the time to watch the clip Zeelands!
I was fortunate enough that my mum and dad provided the necessaries to enable me to make the Seamaster 1957 300 the watch for my 50th birthday. Sadly, my dad passed 6 weeks before I chose and bought it, so for many reasons, it’ll always have a place in my collection. It reminds me of him because of the circumstances but also because he served in the Royal Navy at the time Omega issues these watches, and bought his own Seamaster c.501 in 1962. For me, the watch epitomises a time and style, has a genuine point of difference from so much else available, and I love Omega chose to recreate it utterly faithfully. That speaks of confidence in your design - no tweaks needed!
I'd happily get the entire Trilogy set (maybe it's an obsession I have with these machines) but they're just too damn fun. And thank you Neel! The appreciation has never wained. I also really hope I'm not the only one who feels this way about a piece in the collection. Thank you as always brother!
I've owned the Trilogy Speedmaster for almost 4 years now. It's my only modern watch and the only modern watch I've ever had a desire to buy. I still love it!
Brilliant video. This is not a rational hobby - it’s all about heart over head. I’d always thought I’d own a Speedmaster because…well, everyone says you need one in your collection. After saving for years, I finally found myself in a position to buy one recently. With great anticipation, I visited my local boutique to see the new 3861 in person…and my heart sank. There, in front of me, was a legend, a true icon of the watch world. This was a watch that I should love! But I just felt nothing. I knew I couldn’t pull the trigger, and I knew that I was only going to buy it because everyone else said I should - and at £5300 that’s a pretty big mistake to make. I walked away. Shortly after, I found something completely unexpected. A bizarre, impractical marmite watch that is probably overpriced and definitely not versatile - but I was madly in love: the Calibre 11 Monaco. Did I ever expect to own one? Not at all. Am I glad I do? Absolutely!
You made a wise decision in that if your heart isn’t in it, you should walk away until you find a piece that speaks to you. I know everyone says you NEED a Speedmaster, but why would you want something everyone and their brother has? You made a fine choice with the Monaco. It’s different. It’s a conversation piece. I bought a 1957 Trilogy Railmaster because I knew it was something not everyone in the watch community has. There are 3,556 other people with one, but what are the odds of me running into them?
Excellent choice. Vintage watch design is so much better than anything today. The brilliant part was finding a remake, ergo no expensive initial servicing costs.
I agree with you! Since getting one myself, it gets most of my wrist time, even more than my speedmaster. Perhaps the 300m WR makes it more reassuring of a tool watch. I also like the simplicity of time only - and I instead use the countdown bezel to indicate the date. I prefer it over the BB58, which I just didn't bond with.
Interesting, right? After the Seamaster I picked up an SPB143 Seiko and even after a year, still cannot bond with it... I don't know what it is. There are just too many great quirks about these 57's that keep them interesting no matter the day. Also love the practicality of the bezel (and water resistance). So glad I'm not the only one that enjoys the charms Gannon and thank you for the comment!
I bought the sibling Railmaster and hope to collect all three of the Trilogy, in addition to their role in horological history, because they remind me of my three sons to whom I will pass them along someday. I, too, noticed the recent $3.4M sale of the OG, Speedy, proof positive that we aren’t alone in appreciating the provenance, heritage, and design language. To have the modern engine and improved clasp makes these babies all the better. Thanks for another great video, your perspective, and an honest take.
You eloquently hit the nail on the head. The same thoughts have gone on in my mind since acquiring this watch in 2018. It’s a roller coaster love affair. As time goes on I love it more and more. Keep up the amazing work.
When all else fails say to yourself: It's a top-of-the-line Omega & It's THE Seamaster. That always hits hard enough ;) My pleasure as always Austin and thank you for taking the time to watch the clip!
Love your channel, and I loved this watch when you first bought it. I thought it was an inspired choice. When I finally buy my first watch, you’ll have been a big part of the process. Thanks.
That means a lot Gary... Maybe I over-analyse this stuff too much but hell, it makes for a compelling journey ;) Keep searching and spending time narrowing down what watch truly speaks to you. There are so many outliers to trace. It's always good to just start with a brand and work through their catalogues. Again, thank you for this Gary!
Important is we buy what we like and over the time............are we still love it?.........that answer our question "are we make a right choice at the first place?.......Many thanks for all your contribution
It's a deep question to ask: Is there even a "correct" choice? In the end I reckon we have to be able to justify it all ourselves without anyone else's input BUT it's tough... This hobby is a lifelong journey ;) Have an excellent weekend Kuan!
Very well said Glenn. There are too many "correct choices" out there actually. Of course tonnes and tonnes on a prescribed list that we seemed to have grouped together over the years ;) I do love that through such a diverse series of pieces and brands there are hundreds that everyone can nod their heads and say "yup, excellent choice". Thanks a lot, sir!
@@glennrainey1227 Oooh, Silvered hands. Going to have to look into this more. I'm a big fan of how Omega Rhodium plates a lot of theirs. These broad arrows stand out so, so much it's crazy...
I'm constantly re-evaluating, but I think that makes the hobby quite interesting. Some of my watches obviously I have grown a bit tired of, but it's the ones that I have really developed an affinity more and more that gives me a lot of satisfaction. I'm really happy that your journey with the 300 has been such a satisfying one!
We all go through those ebbs and flows Michael, absolutely. As a counter to this experience, I can't wait to discuss the Seiko SPB background. It's brilliant in SO many ways... But just haven't been able to connect with it. Found a Seiko 5 for less than 100 bucks that walks all over it too (as a daily wearer). We definitely go through these phases and it's awesome to see how we push through them!
Thanks a lot Christian. It's definitely been one of those pieces that has changed the way I look at watches a lot. Crazy to think how much of an impact it makes! Have a great weekend brother
Congratulations on the two year anniversary and for making the perfect choice for your first luxury piece. It is a glorious piece with a proper history but most of all it looks great on the wrist. 👏👏🥃
‘sterility’…….spot on and yes agree that’s why vintage watches are so appealing. Still own and wear my first luxury watch…… a Sub from 1987, have others but this still has ‘it’
It's a strange thing, right? Brilliant designs that end up feeling "manufactured" all too often that lack "character". I think what makes the biggest difference at the end of the day is when a brand deliberately injects DNA from an era into their watches (Like 50's, 60's and 70's) We pick it up that there is something different about them and that seems to always keep us on our toes. Thanks for this Andy!
Almost Two Years amazing doesn't seem that long ago . I really like the Seamaster and think you made a great choice . I'm not a fan of Mercedes hands I'd take the Seamaster over Rolex submariner any day , it would be nice to have all three of the Omega 1957 reissue .
They have something to them that feels entirely Omega. No tributes, no borrowing of ideas. There's a purity to their 50's inspirations. Thanks for this Ghost Rider! Keep wearing your 300 proudly!
Many of the points you raise are why my grail seems to be shifting from the Explorer to the Zenith Defy - either in blue or skeleton form it's easily accessible and an extraordinary piece of design, character and personality to burn
That's exactly why I have my eyes on the 36mm Oris Big Crown Pointer Date as my first (somewhat) luxury watch purchase: while the dial layout and the watch as a whole is really well balanced and classically beautiful, it remains somewhat idiosyncratic, with some design elements giving away that this watch was conceived in a different era. To me, there's enough charming contradiction gathered on this piece to make you scratch your head in delight, hopefully even after years of wearing it. I think your Seamaster does very much the same thing in its own way.
I've eyed the Oris PD so many times and it's a beauty! A new model just released today in Dubai I believe (and it looks stunning). An Oris 65 was added to my collection soon after the Omega and it's another one of those outlandishly cool designs. I'd highly recommend going for an Oris as a first, price wise, durability and strap changes... it's not a hard choice ;)
@@ID-Guy Just checked it: as expected, last year's Hölstein LE set the stage for this. Very cool piece in its own right. Too bad, I really want the old style in 36mm... No caliber 403 for me then, i guess :/
Perfect timing on your video. I was looking for a seamaster 57 today and unbelievably found a brand new one on Omegas website. I thought they were all sold out but seems I got lucky- arrives on Monday!
Wow and wow! Now this is mad. I've had close calls with stories like these before but this one takes the cake. Huge congratulations Steve! I also thought they'd all disappeared from Omega's website a long time ago? Man, but you're going to love it. And if you ever feel like it's "too out there" trust me when I say you'll come back to it wanting more ;)
@@ID-Guy It was actually one of your previous videos that inspired me to get the watch . I was searching earlier today and found a 2017 watch with 8 days left on the warranty for £200 under RRP being sold by a well known UK used watch retailer . It was on a Black Friday deal so I pulled the trigger. 20 minutes later I was browsing the Omega website and there was a brand new one in stock - I couldn’t believe it. I cancelled my original order and bought the new one from Omega - £200 more for a brand new watch with a 5 year warranty.
@@stevehs4287 Just fantastic Steve and great call getting it brand new. You'll be able to get the full unboxing experience too. It has one of the most impressive boxes by far. So, so tastefully done. Ah, I'm excited for you and well done again! Monday is just around the corner ;)
What I find interesting regarding this hobby is that the laws of diminishing returns applies to purchasing time pieces as well as anything else. Because of this, I'm very selective before dropping my hard earned coin. I make my analysis before purchase as if this particular piece can be a one and done. That way it reduces your chances of having buyers remorse...
Exactly the same as me Salvador. I spend months to years thinking about what will work nicely in the collection and (apart from once) it's worked extremely well. Also gives you much more time to consider if it's the one for you when you see it every other day and recollect everything. Great shout!
I completely agree with you on the ‘first watch’ scenario. Still to this day and regardless of pieces I’ve bought and sold over the years, and pieces I still own that are over 10 x the price, the Seiko Alpinist design is the one that warms my heart most of all. I’ve said it before many times; I believe the Alpinist design is wasted on Seiko and should be handed to Grand Seiko to execute to the exceptional level it so deserves. That said, a large proportion of the Alpinist’s charm is its price and therefore utility. As my first auto mechanical watch, it will always hold that 5th dimensional charm! On the Omega side of things, the ‘57 Broad Arrow is something I’d sell either the 214270 or 124270 for. Damn this hobby, I’m sure it’s one big test. Part of Deep Thought’s programming. Loving your work as always. 🥃😑👍
Loving the video, IDGuy. I look at that Seamaster ‘57, and think: “Wow, this triggers something in my brain in the same way that late 50s/early 60s cars do.” There’s just something so indescribably delicious about that design ethos. My Zodiac Super Sea Wolf does something similar, but in a mid 60s Plymouth Barracuda or Buick Riviera sort of way, so not with quite as much gusto. If the 1957 Seamaster is a 1957 Cadillac or a 1957 Porsche 356, then the 5513 Submariner is a 1963 Cadillac or a 1964 Porsche 911. Classic, but minimalist, with the extra decorations taken back, and more streamlined, but not creeping toward the hideous 1970s like the mid to late 60s started to do.
I think that that trilogy was really well considered. And also the modern Speed-, Sea- and Rail-(Masters) are triumphs in my book. In both heritage and versatility. After New Years, I may be looking for a Globe Master for myself as an all purposer.
Omega definitely gets a lot of credit but I think they deserve more. Didn't even go into the watchmaking or timekeeping (but of course it's perfect) And the Globemaster is one of my favorites... Another one of those sleepers with lots of Constellation DNA (can't even remember if it's called a Connie anymore). Beautifully understated model and I wish you the best on your hunt Henry!
Love the way you articulated this topic. I’m a avid watch lover who finally pulled the trigger and bought my dream watch, omega speed master sapphire version about two weeks ago. Funny how so few people understand or appreciate the “luxury watch” but it means something to me. It’s hard to understand, even to myself. Thanks you.
Glad you had enough sense of personal taste to be able to chose such a fantastic Omega model. Most collectors buy, follow the same Brand models influenced by social media. Sadly never developing a personal taste.
Appreciate it Michael. There was an entire section that I cut out about "buying a first watch from a prescribed list" but thought that would be too heavy. It's sad that so many go after the same watch and hope to find a connection with it (because they're told it's great) instead of telling their own story BUT that's the state of the world. It just means that we don't have to try as hard to find something we truly love ;)
I remember falling in love with this watch, and wanted it so much but (as it was a very expensive purchase for me and my first luxury watch) I was wondering it it was "the one". And then I saw your first review of this Omega on RUclips and bought it on november 2020. And my god, what a watch...I've built a (really small) collection since then, with a 300M "Peter Blake" and a Heuer Monaco (btw, your videos were also useful for those 2 purchases) but the Seamaster 1957 trilogy is still my favorite and most worn watch, for so many reasons. So thank you, (sorry for my bad english) and have a great week-end !
So you've had your Seamaster about 6 months shorter than me? That is amazing... and just like you, I've built a small collection from this pickup (going to do a SOTC for the end of the year / early next year) Wow, such a similar story for both of us. Great though, right? The 1957 just hits differently as such a stand-out. Massive congratulations for all of your pieces and keep on enjoying them! Have an excellent weekend too, brother!
Always a pleasure Craig! I'm very keen to know what your grail is (hopefully it's something that not everyone can recognise) But this hobby takes us in all sorts of directions... crazy to think how different our tastes can get!
My all time favourite Seamaster. The size, dial, hands, unique bezel is perfection. I’d love to own the set one day, 1957 and 2017 are the birth years of my Mother and Daughter, feels like it’s meant to be 😁
And 1957 was my fathers birth year... CK2913 is a scramble of my birth date and year... it goes on and on Joao! Connections like these we cannot ignore ;)
Beautiful watch! Masculine , great size and proportions. It has a very tidy appearance. The 50s watches have great style . I have a 50s rolex oyster. There is no perfect watch... car, woman or anything else!
I made a conscious choice when it came to my collection. It's very much upper lower value watches. Seiko's, Orient's ect. ect. It didn't stop me from still desiring my grail watch (Marathon JDD). These watches are all tied to me not just physically, (yuk yuk yuk) but emotionally just as strong as if they were luxury watches. I do like your reasoning for the first high end watch. You tempered it with the desire of original history, but not common. A fantastic choice. Thank you for the content.
Great rationalisation from you as well Tuzu, this hobby of ours takes us all over the place. Try as I might to fall in love with the SPB143, a Seiko 5 fits the criteria so much more for me (and it's brilliant - can't wait to get that review done) Thank you for the comment brother!
I'm selling my Speedy matey. After just a few weeks of wear. Man... this watch thing is confusing as hell.. in love one day, and then in practice it's not the one... I love your Seamaster. Great proportions.. lovely looking watch.... I'm back on the Explorer 1 wagon. As soon as the Speedy sells
It's a funny thing right? There's a line in this video where I say something like "many modern watch designs are so well done that they can have this feeling of "sterility" to them - and we then start getting bored with them" - Something I've been thinking a lot about lately. If your heart is set on the Explorer, nothing's going to get in the way of it brother ;)
@@Valera_Scotland dude I'm in the same boat just bought the Speedy 2 weeks ago but wanted an Aqua Terra 38 in black so lone behold I'm selling the Speedy for the Aqua Terra. Gonna have imo the perfect 2 watch collection, Tudor Black Bay 58 Navy and the Aqua Terra 38 black, that's all I truly need. Hope you get your Explorer!
Wow has it been that long since you made this choice? How time flys😁 Excellent vid about a great choice. I see you enjoying it fully for many decades 🍷
Wonderful insights on your journey and metamorphosis as a collector. My Tudor BB 58 was my first luxary piece and warms my heart to this day thankfully. Cheers
Such a good piece that BB58... can't tell you how many times I've been so close to picking up a Gilt dial for myself... Now all my focus is on the FXD as the next big purchase (hopefully mid next year). But the first watch will always leave that mark, they're priceless. Thanks for this as always brother!
That’s a great looking watch! Your reflections and comments are always relevant to the topic or question at hand. I’m still looking for my first significant watch. I’ve actually gotten close a time or two, only to realize that I actually haven’t found the one. The hunt for the watch may actually be as satisfying and enjoyable as actually obtaining it. Thanks for sharing some of your journey with the rest of us.
The hunt is always one of the most satisfying experiences especially when you finally make the catch! It's actually something we chat about a lot in the vintage space (I did a video on the subject briefly last week) When you're not only going after the watch but finding one in mint condition with everything as pristine as you'd want it (for a great price) that's like the ultimate goal. So yes!! Take your time, even if its another year or two. That one watch will stick in your mind eventually and you'll always come back to think about it. Thank you for taking the time to watch the clip Alvin!
It's very beautiful with masculine attitude. I'll take it over the new BP fifty fathoms which looks like a plain ass Submariner( worth about $5K) A great selection. Love the passion you have for horology and your beloved Seamaster.
Thanks for sharing on your first luxury watch purchase and personal watch experience @IDGuy. It's a good story outline approach in addressing your purchase justification, this is. Watches since its inception are indeed the only objects that's both a tool and necessity accessory cum jewellery until the advent of mobile smart phones. My first luxury watch purchase wasn't Rolex but Seiko Arctura Diver due to its futuristic curvy integrated design, like the Genta's but with Japanese modernist profiles. It's new kinetics or auto quartz movements was another significant purchase factor. It was and still is a unique cool looking watch, despite its mechanical downsides. Do enjoy your new luxury watch @IDGuy. 😎⌚👍
Thank you Thomason! It's the pieces that really got us into the hobby that'll stay with us forever. It's so cool to think that we have a much more intimate connection with them than the others. Thanks as always for taking the time to watch the videos Thomason and have a great start to your weekend!
It's always cool when someone notices ;) Not as easy as it looks pushing three crowns in-sync BUT so rewarding! Thanks a million as always Ben! I hope you're well, brother
I reevaluate my collection all the time, but this year I am trying to really reduce my collection and eliminate anything that I have the smallest issue with. This is one of the most beautiful watches Omega made, definitely a very cool diver 👍
Thank you Pierre! It was a very quick elimination process in the end (and the Seamaster was always in the forefront) It's been such a good experience... the question now is will I ever have a similar experience again? Ah, this hobby... Have a great start to your weekend!
I bought the non LE version recently, love it. My first "proper" luxury watch.. Agree with your thoughts (tho you put it far more eloquently tha I could) . Taken me a couple of years to get it, which I'm sure makes me appreciate it more. It's a lifetime keeper for me . Good video thank you 👍👍
I must say I envy your ability to take your time to savour the moment of a new watch arriving. I get so lost in excitement I just throw it straight into eh wrist and start snapping away with my phone.
Excellent video. The Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co‑Axial was my first luxury watch. I thought then, it would be the only watch I would own. I've been lucky enough to own several other luxury watches but this watch will always be my favourite.
I too love the vintage designs , the rado captain cook in green is just lovely ,as is my new purchase a seiko sla043. Or 62mas to most people. I have considered the omega seamaster 300 also , but the high polish on the case and bracelet held me back. No doubt they will bring out a less flashy version and still get my money, lol. I do agree that the older designs had more imagination about them, so it makes sense to get a modern watch with the vintage design without actually getting a vintage watch. Great vid as always , glad you still enjoy it.
Making me jealous with your SLA043 purchase... I've come to realise that the original just hits differently. Try as I might, I havent been able to connect with my SPB143 (not for lack of trying) it's such a brilliant watch but leaves me wanting more. And maybe it's just me wanting that original case with all the design elements of the original design. Great point around this Martin and thank you!
Funky right? I've been wearing it non-stop over the past week and a half and must say, it's a combo that really works nicely (might be my favorite combination with this watch) Adds a different meaning to "Climber / Explorer" watch ;) Have a great weekend Daniel
Loved the video and content in general. Would be nice to see a state of the collection video and maybe some arguments on the pieces you’ve chosen. Great content, keep at it.
Great idea Gabriel! I've got it all lined up and should have a video out by the end of December / Early January and will definitely spend a lot of time talking through why they were chosen ;) Thanks a ton for watching the clip, brother
Great video. As you know I have one and this video has made me feel more at peace with my reasons for buying it. You reminded me of why I bought it and not the Submarina that I wanted. Also, you know I want a Explorer however, the difficulty to get one and finding the flame again for my Seamaster 57 helps to remind me to stop begging a brand/people/AD’s to spend an enormous amount of money for/to them when I’m lucky enough to have a modern beast in a vintage style. Thank you.
I remember fondly, brother. We picked up ours within weeks of one another and I've been spying you rocking it a lot! I think for both of us it fills that "niche" of being Vintage & Modern with a great balance of arabics and all the quirks of its time. We both should go after a piece like a Submariner or Explorer to inject that bit of modernity into the mix (I'm after the Sub over the next few years) BUT it's how different of an occasion it feels with the Seamaster on that makes all the difference ;)
This was literally me with the seamaster planet ocean 39mm I listed over that watch for 2 years back in 2019 when I tried it on in a omega store. Whenever I try a new watch I'd compare it to the seamaster. I found amazing deal on a titanium 37.5 mm and pulled the trigger after I secured my first professional job. Been wearing it proud since. It's not the exact same watch but the Arabic numerals at 12 9 and 6 to provide excellent legibility. The compact nature of the watch played well with my smaller wrist it's toughness played well in my active life style and love if water sports. On top of that I am a absolute bond fan going back to 06.
Brilliant! Your watch definitely appeals to a vintage collector like yours truly. Of course, I am working a much smaller budget, but your first luxury watch is absolutely a great choice! Cheers!
I recently purchased the green Orient Kamasu, after a year of deciding over what my first purchase should be. It took so long to figure out what would be elegant yet practical. Even with far more expensive choices, the Orient is what I kept coming back to. Thanks for this video, because it makes me feel better about my own decision making process. Love this Seamaster.
The 1957 Seamaster is one of my absolute favourites. Sadly its already sold out and running over retail. Its really nice to see that you enjoy it so much :)
I almost bought the Trilogy in Zurich, and the non-screw-down crown on the Railmaster dissuaded me. Your specific Seamaster is probably my favorite Omega ever produced. Well done, and NEVER flip it. Thanks!
It's a great watch you made a great selection for your first luxury watch. Fun video make me want to wear my first luxury watch today it's been awhile.
Looks so nice through the glass.I own a Spectre but wear my 300smp titanium/ceramic case mostly. Whenever I get the 300 out I always think wow you are a stunner! Love yours mate they really are beautiful watches👍
I remember watching your unboxing video for the omega..it was a stunner right out of the box and the excitement in your voice made it really fun to watch. But i gotta know…where did the cuff band on the smiths come from..? There aren’t bad first choices, there are only missed opportunities..
The enthusiasm still hasn't disappeared now almost 2 years later, it's crazy. There are times when I look at it and think "how did I get so lucky with this?" AND the cuff! I was browsing for a decently made 19mm bund (think this one is epsom leather) and found it one night from a custom strap maker on Etsy (based in the UK) - I think it was a one-off too... BUT they're out there! Love that point about "missed opportunities" Thanks for this Cary
It was a classy, challenging choice for a first quality watch and 100% it is a keeper. The Railmaster is also special. Looking at how your hobby is developing for a daily wear watch you might consider a unique Freese 53. Happy hunting.
Anything is "worth it" if it gives one pleasure within one's financial reach.... my collection makes me happy, and I've had a watch on my wrist since my Bar Mitzvah 61 years ago.. and I love my latest, a new Aqua Terra
Excellently said, money shouldn't be that driving force behind the watch either. Amazing to think a watch can be a part of someone's life for over 60 years... I've got some catching up to do ;) Great call with the AT and thank you for taking the time to watch the clip!
Hey brother! Just wanted you to be the first to know that I purchased the Seamaster '57 Trilogy today, a year after watching this video (and listening to you go on and on about it). I paid £4.5K via C24 and I believe it will be a keeper! Every now and then, the more mass market luxury brands launch true gems. Heuer did that with the Carrera Montreal 160 around the same time and I had to get it. So there you have it...thanks for aiding the hemorrhage of more of my money :)
I used to love the fauxtina, but not so much anymore, especially when it comes to a watch being my first. Omega is by far my favorite manufacturer, but I'm still waiting for them to make that absolutely perfect watch.
Great video, and a nice first luxury watch choice. For me, first luxury watch was a Blancpain Leman Complete Calendar, so went a very different direction.
...and there I was walking ten miles each morning to collect fresh water. Returning home to play with feral dogs in the mud with a stick and a broken skateboard. The Omega Seamaster 300 was throughout this daily repetition constantly at the forefront of my mind....Joking aside, I enjoy simple functional watches. This is such an early watch.
That is a great watch! I’ve been looking at buy the summer blue version, but I think I like your watch better. I bought a Omega GMT Aqua Terra new that had a 52% discount as my ‘first nice watch’, got the Omega Milanese strap, every time I put it on it feels special and unique

I realized that it is even better then the Speedy. It's what my parents got me because they knew I liked "that kind of watch" (the Speedy) and felt it was more appropriate at that time - and they're right: It's the perfect watch now to me.

I can’t say I liked this watch before, but now, while I am watching your video, it grows on me. Really enjoy your channel, keep it going!
I loved the piece when you got it, and I still love it, an absolutely unique watch! The entire trilogy is brilliant! Glad you still enjoy it
I'd happily get the entire Trilogy set (maybe it's an obsession I have with these machines) but they're just too damn fun.
What a beautifully eloquent and honest piece.
There are many correct choices, very many, and this is simply one of them! Another super production, and enjoy the watch! Thanks.
PS .. can we start a 'conversation' about silvered hands?
Love mine! Just got it recently, unfortunately also second hand but over retail! You snatched it at the right time!
Great Video! That Omega is an amazing piece. You described the experience having a relationship/bond with your watch beautifully.
Means a lot from you Russell! Celebrating anniversaries and special occasions, these little machines really are too cool ;)
The thoughtfulness of your videos are just amazing. Keep up the great work.
I own the regular 300, and I love every morning moment when I wear it on my wrist.
And if you ever feel like it's "too out there" trust me when I say you'll come back to it wanting more ;)
@@ID-Guy
It was actually one of your previous videos that inspired me to get the watch .
@@ID-Guy The question is if it is you are agonizing over a one and done because of the value proposition then is it really a hobby or simply shopping?
What a great review , I could listen to you all day , you could do a voice over or a audio book , such a relaxing voice
I have fallen in love with the broad arrow omegas! Great watch! It def worthy!!
Fascinating hearing your story, thank you…🙏 beautiful watch! 👍
A pleasure to share and thank you JV! This one has the best story to it (I think any great relationship has to have one) ;)
As one who wears the planet ocean everyday, I appreciate the seamaster 1957 so much. It's like 'Planet Ocean: the origin' to me.
Brilliant video, and commentary. Still saving for my grail. It's something individual and special for us all. Cheers

Wow has it been that long since you made this choice? How time flys😁 Excellent vid about a great choice. I see you enjoying it fully for many decades 🍷
If you look at it at least 50 times a day without having a clue what the time is, then it's a winner. Long may your enjoyment continue!
I took some time away from all the watch stuff. I come back bam your face on a video mind blown.
You're not the only one (also took a month off around September) ;) Great to have you back with us!
I'll take it over the new BP fifty fathoms which looks like a plain ass Submariner( worth about $5K)
A great selection. Love the passion you have for horology and your beloved Seamaster.
You convinced me and i bought one. I love it. The best watch in the box!

Thank you Thomason! It's the pieces that really got us into the hobby that'll stay with us forever. It's so cool to think that we have a much more intimate connection with them than the others. Thanks as always for taking the time to watch the videos Thomason and have a great start to your weekend!

I reevaluate my collection all the time, but this year I am trying to really reduce my collection and eliminate anything that I have the smallest issue with.
This is one of the most beautiful watches Omega made, definitely a very cool diver 👍
Such a beauty that watch mate. Also, love how sincere you are on these videos. It’s almost funny…but actually very good!
Wonderful! Thanks so much for doing this. You help me understand my love of watches.
you can never go wrong with a Seamaster. Bravo sir
I remember your process etc, great vids. It’s a beautiful piece and a fantastic choice, you had it down to 3 and went this way.

Great watch. The value keeps going up.
Really enjoyed this one. Your journey and experience with your Omega closely resembles and applies to my own with the Sea-Dweller 43mm

Excellent video. The Omega Seamaster 300 Master Co‑Axial was my first luxury watch. I thought then, it would be the only watch I would own. I've been lucky enough to own several other luxury watches but this watch will always be my favourite.
It has a simple but compelling design.

One of the few watch channels where the host can talk about watches and not put you to sleep or blabber over one point.
That Smith’s Everest on the bund strap is seriously cool. Also, outliers are the best. Excellent pick on the Seamaster.

Awesome video! Would love to see more like this explaining the thought process of making a watch purchase.
The blue one with its lollipop second hand kills me I love this one!!
Oh yeah... that one is on my list. Slowly saving for it... and the Pelagos... and the Longines Big Eye, and...
Thanks!
I swam this morning with my 60th Anniversary Railmaster Reissue, all good.
Done well, nice all round watch!
Thanks a lot Jim! A strange old beast, but always, always worth looking at ;)
It's a great watch you made a great selection for your first luxury watch. Fun video make me want to wear my first luxury watch today it's been awhile.
Great choice, I’ve always liked this watch
Awesome video and points of wisdom. I went through a similar process and settled on a pre-ceramic Sub. One watch and done for me
Looks so nice through the glass.I own a Spectre but wear my 300smp titanium/ceramic case mostly.
@@ID-Guy half of what I enjoy is your delivery and use of language... So personal and insightful
Great analysis! You made the right choice.
Thanks a lot Ray, this was good fun to put together!
Very enjoyable video, thank you.
A pleasure as always and thank you for taking the time to watch the clip Steven!
Ah y'know, growing up in Africa was tough ;) These early divers hit differently (definitely a niche of their own) and thank you Nathan!
That is a great watch! I’ve been looking at buy the summer blue version, but I think I like your watch better.
I bought a Omega GMT Aqua Terra new that had a 52% discount as my ‘first nice watch’, got the Omega Milanese strap, every time I put it on it feels special and unique
I can corealate on my watch journey. Thankyou, great video. Subscribed.
Greatly appreciate it Zeus and thank you! This hobby definitely makes us think hard sometimes ;)
My pleasure Buddy.
