I was so pleased when I came across this video it is right on time. I just ordered 4 more Chikuhodo brushes, one of them is the Z11. I kept buying more makeup thinking I was not buying the right products because it never looked flawless. I was so glad I listened to the recommendations about the Japanese brushes. The makeup products are important but even more so are the tools you use. The right tools make drug store makeup look like more expensive products. Hooked.

kinkysweat Thank you, friend!🤗 As far as Chikuhodo brushes-I’ve gotten my hands on the Z8 and Z1. I absolutely love them. I have rosacea and oily skin which can be irritating and cause my makeup to move around. The Z series is so delicate I have no problems when using these brushes. Next up-got my eyes on Z11. I love z5 for eyes, it's very densely packed and it's shape makes it very versatile. I was amazed with how much product it can pick up, and how beautifully it distributes it. Plus I love how easily it is cleaned by just using a microfiber towel (or a bamboo one), you can pretty much complete the whole eye look with just one brush. I don't know what it is about the z series squirrel hair, but they feel cooling to the touch, it's truly a heavenly feeling. I am currently debating between mk-2 and z1... one has a nicer handle, but the other is raved about by so many.. ah decisions, decisions... I will probably end up picking both😁 I hate to encourage spending in these times, but Sonia G hinted on Insta that the prices of all japanese brushes will increase in the near future. I have the GSN-5 and MK-MO. I have been looking at the P-8 for over a year. That is next on my list and tonight, you convinced me to get the MK-2. I debated between the MK-1, MK-MO, and MK-2 and purchased the MK-MO amongst the powder brushes.
OMFG Alicia!!!!!! So. You know how I was saying I wasnt going to pick up the Shiseido powder foundation cuz I'm just not a powder foundation kind of girl? Well. I decided to try my GSN 02 with my Studio Fix, that I havent touched in four years (😬 ) and I AM IN LOVE WITH POWDER FOUNDATION NOW!!!! I guess I just needed a great brush!!! And the Z 11??!! I love how silky and flexible it is!! I use it when I do a smoky eye to have the really diffused edge of the transition shade. I also use it when I want to, as you said, have a very light and diffused wash of color, like when i do an extremely bold dark lip and just want a very very light grey through the crease or something. That brush is one of my favorites now. And it's such an unassuming little.guy!!!
Ahh yayy you read my mind!!! I actually built a cart on Hakuhodo’s website and I’m ready to virtually check out! I own some Wayne Goss and lots of Sonia G and I really wanna try Hakuhodo so bad. It’s amazing the difference our tools make. My poor synthetic brushes do nothing but collect dust now.
Do it girl! Hakuhodo was the first Japanese brand I dove into in 2018 when i started replacing my MAC brushes because they were starting to feel scratchy. Let me know how it goes and what you got🙂

Hello Alicia, there are no words to describe how amazing and thorough you are on your reviews!!! I am on Fude beauty and after watching all your reviews, my biggest debate was Z1, Z9 or KZ1 but you convinced me to go for the latter. So, to sum up, I have put in my cart KZ1, CMP 510 and I am debating between the FO5 and Z11. Not sure which one to go for, any additional comparison would be very helpful. Thoughts? I've had a great experience ordering from CD Japan - this is a great retailer when they have sales and to try interesting brands! I personally tried Bisyodo and Houkodou both of which are absolutely exceptional. Visage USA is a Chikuhodo retailer (and I believe they're still running their Spring sale) so you may be able to get their Z1 at a good discount now! Beauty Blender Pro solid cleanser works. I always have to do two washes (wet, soap, soak a couple minutes, rinse, soap and rinse) and it's important to use enough soap.

It's a Hakuhodo microfibre towel... But any microfibre towel will do, use your brushes girl! I use the Beauty blender solid soap to wash all my Japanese brushes and also the Dr Bronners unscented baby soap.

I’m eyeing the silver fox brushes (they say feels like squirrels but durability and blending power of goat)😌. I love blue squirrels brushes for powder face products application. I don’t really like blue squirrels eye brushes because they don’t blend as well as goat. I’m grateful that the skin around my eyes are not too sensitive 😊. Thank you for the review as always 😘.
That was very helpful to see the brushes compared to each other in size & shape. When I'm looking at them online & only have pictures to go by of the individual brush, it is difficult to visualize exactly how big it is in relation to my face. Most of the synthetic face brush sets I've purchased in the past, the largest brush was too big or too dense for me to use for powder. It's the first brush to be decluttered. I would like a squirrel hair brush for finishing powders/buffing since no matter what I do or how I adjust my application method, applying powder looks terrible. And there are times I just want to wear a tinted face powder over spf & not bother with foundation at all. I looked long & hard at that New Years brush & was so tempted. I am born under the Rat & I loved the floral design on the handle but I wasn't really crazy about the cartoon looking mouse tbh. Would have preferred a more abstract, brush stroke symbol design of a rat that blended with the Asian floral motif. But anyway, when things settle down & our finances are more stable I will definitely check out a couple of the brushes you showed in this video even if they don't have pretty floral designs on the handles they are still gorgeous brushes. I totally agree with you Alicia, the Japanese in general take so much pride in their work and have respect for what they do and how. I have no doubt these animals are not harmed and I feel comfortable buying the brushes. In the words of Jim Gaffigan “ You leave a Japanese public restroom cleaner than when you went in. It’s hard to pay that much money all at once but I just remembered Beautylish allows you to split it up into 3 payments I think. I’m definitely going to take advantage of that. Fluffy Fude I know men don’t get it at all lol. I’ve tried to explain it to him but he doesn’t understand. He was looking at all my eye brushes earlier (I have 47 of them lol) because I was washing them and he asked if all of them really had a specific purpose and I said well yes of course. He shook his head and said they all looked the same to him. I give up 😂 😂. I didn’t realize I had that many until I counted them 😁 I have high quality eye brushes but I’m lacking on face brushes so I’m unbelievably excited to get the Chikuhodo brush!!
I have have the GSN 05, my favorite for foundation. Also T-7, GSN-09, & the Z -10 eyeshadow brushes. All great. I’ve had that Z-8 in my cart for awhile. I need a good blush/bronzer brush. The Mac one is so scratchy on my face, the Sonia G blush brush, is just too small, not happy with that one, though I tried to make it work. This video was so helpful. Thanks!

I realize I’m a hypocrite because I use only cruelty free products but I really want to try natural hair luxury brushes 🙄 My issue with the claim that these brushes are cruelty free is that there’s no footage on the whole process. Not even a photo. I guess that’s what’s holding me back. Great video!

Hello Alisa! I have been using Clean Apothecary brush shampoo from beautylish for 2+ years. It has no bad ingredients, cleanses very well, all my natural ( and synthetic ones) bristles brushes are super soft after. I can not recommend this product enough 💜
I love the Beauty Blender Pro solid cleanser. I do try to use my 3M microfiber dusting cloth to clean the brushes and try to wash as little as possible.

So, to sum up, I have put in my cart KZ1, CMP 510 and I am debating between the FO5 and Z11. Not sure which one to go for, any additional comparison would be very helpful. Thoughts?

I've had a great experience ordering from CD Japan - this is a great retailer when they have sales and to try interesting brands! I personally tried Bisyodo and Houkodou both of which are absolutely exceptional. Visage USA is a Chikuhodo retailer (and I believe they're still running their Spring sale) so you may be able to get their Z1 at a good discount now!

Beauty Blender Pro solid cleanser works. I always have to do two washes (wet, soap, soak a couple minutes, rinse, soap and rinse) and it's important to use enough soap.

I treated myself to the Sonia G eye pro set for Christmas, but am afraid to use them because I'm not sure how to properly clean them. Also, I think I heard you mention the type of towel you use to wipe your brushes between products. What is it? Thanks!
It's a Hakuhodo microfibre towel... But any microfibre towel will do, use your brushes girl! I use the Beauty blender solid soap to wash all my Japanese brushes and also the Dr Bronners unscented baby soap.

I’m eyeing the silver fox brushes (they say feels like squirrels but durability and blending power of goat)😌. I love blue squirrels brushes for powder face products application. I don’t really like blue squirrels eye brushes because they don’t blend as well as goat. I’m grateful that the skin around my eyes are not too sensitive 😊. Thank you for the review as always 😘.
That was very helpful to see the brushes compared to each other in size & shape. When I'm looking at them online & only have pictures to go by of the individual brush, it is difficult to visualize exactly how big it is in relation to my face. Most of the synthetic face brush sets I've purchased in the past, the largest brush was too big or too dense for me to use for powder. It's the first brush to be decluttered. I would like a squirrel hair brush for finishing powders/buffing since no matter what I do or how I adjust my application method, applying powder looks terrible. And there are times I just want to wear a tinted face powder over spf & not bother with foundation at all. I looked long & hard at that New Years brush & was so tempted. I am born under the Rat & I loved the floral design on the handle but I wasn't really crazy about the cartoon looking mouse tbh. Would have preferred a more abstract, brush stroke symbol design of a rat that blended with the Asian floral motif. But anyway, when things settle down & our finances are more stable I will definitely check out a couple of the brushes you showed in this video even if they don't have pretty floral designs on the handles they are still gorgeous brushes. I totally agree with you Alicia, the Japanese in general take so much pride in their work and have respect for what they do and how. I have no doubt these animals are not harmed and I feel comfortable buying the brushes. In the words of Jim Gaffigan “ You leave a Japanese public restroom cleaner than when you went in. You leave an American public restroom with PTSD”.
I can finally watch this video. My luggage was found and I received this morning. Before it was found, it was too heart breaking to watch this because of all my Chikuhodo brushes that were in my suitcase and I thought might be gone forever.

It’s hard to pay that much money all at once but I just remembered Beautylish allows you to split it up into 3 payments I think. I’m definitely going to take advantage of that. Fluffy Fude I know men don’t get it at all lol. I’ve tried to explain it to him but he doesn’t understand. He was looking at all my eye brushes earlier (I have 47 of them lol) because I was washing them and he asked if all of them really had a specific purpose and I said well yes of course. He shook his head and said they all looked the same to him. I give up 😂 😂. I didn’t realize I had that many until I counted them 😁 I have high quality eye brushes but I’m lacking on face brushes so I’m unbelievably excited to get the Chikuhodo brush!!
I have have the GSN 05, my favorite for foundation. Also T-7, GSN-09, & the Z -10 eyeshadow brushes. All great. I’ve had that Z-8 in my cart for awhile. I need a good blush/bronzer brush. The Mac one is so scratchy on my face, the Sonia G blush brush, is just too small, not happy with that one, though I tried to make it work. This video was so helpful. Thanks!

I realize I’m a hypocrite because I use only cruelty free products but I really want to try natural hair luxury brushes 🙄 My issue with the claim that these brushes are cruelty free is that there’s no footage on the whole process. Not even a photo. I guess that’s what’s holding me back. Great video!

Hello Alisa! I have been using Clean Apothecary brush shampoo from beautylish for 2+ years. It has no bad ingredients, cleanses very well, all my natural ( and synthetic ones) bristles brushes are super soft after. I can not recommend this product enough 💜
I love the Beauty Blender Pro solid cleanser. I do try to use my 3M microfiber dusting cloth to clean the brushes and try to wash as little as possible.

I love Chikuhodo! I nowadays prefer them over Hakuhodo. I have some Chiku treasures (limited editions) I only use for "brush therapy" aka swiping my face :D I should do this idea on my blog! I don't have any of the T or silver fox line yet O____O!!!!!
Also, blue and grey squirrel are different! To my knowledge grey squirrel is American species, and blue squirrel has softer hair! :)
