As a 33yo that started lingboarding a couple months ago, make sure you take stretching seriously. Calf raises and all. I pulled a muscle a week ago. 😅 And I’m in decent shape and typically have 15k steps a day, for reference.
Bro, grab a board. Start riding for real man, I started a few weeks ago after 15 years and it's literally been life changing. My work outs are at their peak for sure, my body feels amazing, and there is no words for how amazing I feel when riding around practicing tricks. Sooooo much fun, sooo much freedom dude
I just turned 30 I quit for several years but for real been skating and riding my bike for about 2 year now I feel amazing I keep it simple and mostly flat ground. Pick up a board 🛹 have fun
@@MrFourTwentyHighLife would love to ride with ya bro, I do the same, flat ground and tons of biking for exercise in the past 2 years. I made it up to 21 miles on one single ride on bike last year, gotta break that this year but I been skating too much lol I'm like, do I go biking????.... Naaaa skateboard lmao
This morning I had a dream in which some people were doing some construction on my family home. One of the people helping out in particular had a large triangular nose, a chaotic attitude, and a memorable voice. When I woke up I started trying to figure out where I recognized that man from. I thought about people I knew who actually built houses. Then I started thinking about TV shows about houses. No luck. So I thought, is this person from a sitcom? Someone I knew at a former job? Nope and nope. Well eventually my pre-coffee mind turned to listing youtube channels. Aaron Kyro, your ability to build houses has somehow seeped into my dreams.
absolutely love you guys trying out DH gear. From the science point, it's not much difference in grip - you put more load on less area of your sole, deforming it more. In theory th sole runs out of shear strength that bit earlier, but most of us don't skate hard enough to ever get to those forces with proper technique. In practice, it feels not too different from a full sheet, but gets less gummed up by dirt if you shoot it off the road in a crash. (I suspect they do it to sell us the same sheet of grip twice, because they sell the cutouts as well)
Skateboard griptape featuring hexagons cut out of it undoubtedly boasts an edge in grip performance, courtesy of its revolutionary "Hexagonal Microfrictional Redistribution" (HMR) technology. The hexagonal shape optimizes frictional forces, creating an intricate micro-surface area that maximizes interlocking between the griptape and the skateboard deck. Based on my analysis of "Frictional Coefficient Optimization" (FCO) principles, these hexagonal patterns seem to possess inherent properties that lead to a more uniform and efficient distribution of frictional forces, elevating the overall grip experience to new heights. The precise alignment of the hexagons harnesses the fascinating properties of fractals, creating a network of frictional hotspots, and consequently, granting skaters an unparalleled level of control and stability during tricks and maneuvers, but all of that doesn't matter, because I just made this all up.
I guess what makes the hexagins add grip is the fact that yor shoes hang onto the edges and the profile of the sole really digs into them. The grip is also concentrated on smaller spots so probably that helps the grip too
Uzzy is right about counting misses. If you were to do 200 failed kick flips and land the 201st and that made a hole. Would you say the shoes only lasted 1 kick flip?
i don't know, they feel pretty similar to ride on for sliding whether there are cutouts or not, but i like no cutouts. the cutouts are supposed to give you better static grip because the grip digs more into the shoe at the edges, but for kick flips i think its just a bit less grip and wear. recommend trying the 60 grit, its a bit smoother to skate and carry around. so probably you just get a little reduction in the height of kick flips and such, the force vector is a bit more downwards overall because the friction is reduced in some areas.
Wish the pattern matched up on the grip, why it was in 3 short squares, makes me think this may have been a product left over from making gripped circles which were cut out for something else not skateboard related.
My thought would be with the hexagonal holes is that you would get just as much proper grip with less material. my idea is that if you had this much grit on the tape, it would add more weight if it was a full coat out
This was cool and that it was so grippy with less surface area 🤔 you guys are machines with thise kickflips 👏 how long did it actually take to do 125? Love braille 😎 ❤
I used to take oscillating sander pads, and use them on the front bolts, and the tail, and that was it, try it and see what you guys think? Do we use too much grip tape on our boards?
The misses should count bcuz his foot is still scraping the grip tape and messing up his shoe either way. Landing it doesn't effect the flick spot. You could just stand still and flick it 1000x and it'd be the same test really. So long as full momentum was put into each flick, it won't effect the test
I'm turning 30 in August and started skating just 2 years ago, learning with Braille videos. I'd love to come out there and play Gabe in a Game Of Skate maybe at my 3 years, next June! I'm learning varial and treflips now, but have all the shoves, 180s, kickflips (double, backside, half cab, etc), heelflips, etc. and skate an hour every day at least. Gabe I challenge you!!! .....next year lol
Yall need to come to Picture Rocks skatepark in AZ! We have a 2 level hubba, a roll over, a 7ft drop in, a spine, different size banks. AND WE HAVE A PYRAMID FLAT BAR!!! RIGHT NEXT TO AN A FRAME. Very smooth round too. I think yall could shred it! There are old videos of it on youtube type in Picture Rocks Skatepark!
From a scientific standpoint, pun intended, the hexagonal holes actually increase the friction, much like high profile tires do, cause they concentrate it on a smaller space.
Seismic is SICK in innovating, lokton grip, tekton bearings, speedvent core wheels, defcon bushings, their boards, MAN Ive Been using the blue landslides since 2012 in cruising/ freeride and the laaaaaaaaaaaaast very long i’m impressed that from 75mm is currently at 62mm, that would be in average 1mm per year. ALL PRODUCTS ARE JUST SICKKKKK N SLICKKKKKKK MAN🤙
I think what they did was calculate the average coefficient of friction between the areas they cut out, and the areas left in as well as calculating the affect on that call fish and friction that is created when you transition between the two materials. basically how much grip you got on the wood Plus how much grip you got on the tape Plus the grippyness of the edges of the tape, all divided by the area, is probably super large, like I bet it’s a bit higher than the other grip tapes that you guys have had. The hexagons are a really great shape, because there aren’t any edges to get peeled up, each of the sides of the hexagon is small enough that the other parts of the grip tape around the outside are holding it down. Like they can probably design incredibly sharp grip tape, but it would be almost to grippy, So I bet they cut those shapes out so that they are able to get exactly the right level of grip.
Should definitely be counting the misses. Essentially your counting the number of times the shoe can be rubbed on the grip tape before ripping. So hypothetically speaking if nobody lands a kick flip before the shoe rips, then does it take zero kick flips to rip?
Hey y'all I got a video idea. Viberide has come out with a truck that has actual breaks on it, although they are made for longboards. I would love to see y'all try them out, and there currently $100 off since they just released.
Our new free digital download, Skateboarding Made Simple Volume 0. Aaron talks about it in yesterday's video. It is our way to try and help get more people to learn to skateboard
you would think it would be grippier because of the spaces in the holes right? science my friend. SCIENCE!!! Incorrect AK. The space between the griptape and the non grip tape causes more grip as you slide those shoes into the edges of the holes.
I recently commented saying the army has spoken so hearing aaron say the army has spoketh made me feel like that was cuz of my comment he commented on???
Just occurred to me, it might not have been the grip tape at all that made the difference... it could be that the 5 year old stuck in the factory I'm China making that pair of 20$ shoes was just more worn out at the time that shoe was put together than the 5 year old that was made to make the other pair. Time of production matters
You guys have inspired me to start skating again at the age of 33. haven't skated in porbably 20 years. Keep it up! Love the videos!
yeah i thought that as well at 33 aand broke my knee

Same here at 34. Let's go!
The only channel that can get people to watch nothing but a kickflip for 10 solid minutes
lol big facts, didn’t even realize I was only watching kickflips. Was just being entertained and enjoying the content.

Easy solution:
1. Count the "failed kickflips"
2. Count the successful kickflips.
3. Use data how you would like.
I guess what makes the hexagins add grip is the fact that yor shoes hang onto the edges and the profile of the sole really digs into them. The grip is also concentrated on smaller spots so probably that helps the grip too
It's not more concentrated, it's just holes in the grip. It's less grip than if the hexagons were not there.
Uzzy is right about counting misses. If you were to do 200 failed kick flips and land the 201st and that made a hole. Would you say the shoes only lasted 1 kick flip?

I agree
Definitely. I always kinda thought it was weird to not count the misses. The shoes still get messed up if you don't land.
Could call it 100 kickflip attempts instead of 100 kickflips
@@stinkinburrows exactly, same difference still

Happy to see gabe skating more again
8.38, or 8.62 are my favorite sizes
I think if they had made the holes twice as small and twice as many it would be gnarly
We need regular grip tape like this to would that be interesting
Only do 8.25 if you're comfy on them. I am a smol human and enjoyed going up to that size more than I expected.

You should do double flips next time to go thru it faster
0:12 Braille Team AKA The Ginyu Force of Fremont Skatepark 😂
I wonder how much worse the damage would be if it was full griptape 🤔
Keep up the great work, guys!
My guess is less. I figure the transition from the deck to the grip is causing the damage. But I could be entirely wrong.
I have a theory that the bigger grit size (lower number) = less wear as it cuts in less/catches more.
still does a lot, i ripped a massive hole in a jumper just from carrying my board (my board is almost fully gripped with it)
It's so funny how the Carmen Sandiago song is permanently stuck in Aaron's head.

1993, or 1994. Carmen San Diego😅

125 lol😂

Uzi’s right. As long as the same effort is applied to the flick it should count. Like, what if he tried a hundred times and landed only one?
I always forget Gabe skates 😅

Should be 150 for consistency
These shoes look hella comfy tho
3M Cubitron griptape next.

You should test 3d printed wheels next…
Since you know vicious grip does the most damage y’all should now put a bunch of different shoes to the test see which skate shoe is best
I feel like the pattern is meant to increase the surface area of the grip, but that doesn't make sense since it's flat and not a 3D surface area lol
The open space reduces drag by grit and *adds it by having edges to catch the shoes drag.
Braille really needs to get a grip on this video...(rimshot)
