Hunting hares with golden eagles - fantastic flights

- We're hunting hares on farmland in Lincolnshire with Eagle falconer Roy Lupton and his friends. The first days provides some stunning footage of a hare which turns and faces the incoming eagle, escaping the razor sharp talons with perfect timing. There are plenty of other impressive flights and eventually the golden eagles find their quarry.

Jumping jelly beans
Man, that hare that stopped, waited till the very second he needed to, and then FLIPPED right over the diving eagle was incredible. wowww
This is a great video, it really shows the stunning agility of wild hares. Not as defenseless as people always think.
That hare that jumped like 5 feet straight up to get out of the way though!! That was gnarly!!
Jess h bhhhh
Go hare, go!
3:34 was neat as it jumped over the eagle.
3:38 the eagle is rethinking its life lol
This is beautiful. If you ask me I think this shows the bond between the eagles and their owners. Each one hunting together and helping each other. The eagle hunts and their owners enhance the eagles tools (the beak, wings, and talons) and they get praised and fed for even trying to hunt.
If the success rate was 100%, it wouldn’t be as exciting. Majestic animals!
That hare changed directions as fast as my wife changes her mood.
Nou Jai Yang😂
That wasn't necessary to say😒
@@manmohan1630 well then you ain’t normal.
@@noujaiyang1513 i just said to you're comment.......
What's in that?
crackin comment😂😂😂
Majestic birds! This is nature, folks! The fact that the success rate can be as low as 50% makes it true sport!
4:33 Goddamn !!! That's a ninja hare ! He was back flipping and shit ! The eagle was like: wait what ????
omg right tho lmfao
3:32 once a ninja always a ninja.. haha brutal!
I'm ninja
3:54 that rabbit is a quick thinker and has good reflexes

Rabbits and hares are two different animals
What an incredible video this is, I never realised how fast the eagle is, great jump by the hare though 👏
Exactly as life really is, thanks for letting us see some before every field is built on.
The golden eagle is the most beautiful and noble creature in existence. Nothing even comes close to seeing these grand birds hunt. No wonder so many great empires have used it as their symbol.
The golden eagle and Lion are on top
Behçet Vaiz that’s your opinion
it still got schooled by a hare, whaddaya think of that?
Rome
Eagles are beautiful.. I have a great respect for Hares, it's a very very clever and courageous animal, a reak athlete able to escape from talented and numerous predators like fox eagles dogs wisel etc. One day I meet a dude, a old hunter who just like to be alone in the nature with his dog. He was convinced that some hares or maybe all was able to minimise their own smell near a predator
This is an awesome hobby. Better than RC airplanes
Really lovely scenery. Congratulations to everyone who care for these majestic creatures and give them the chance to flight over this quarry. Great fun to watch. Keep it up lads.
5:50 ; ok I'mma show you a real veteran of the sky puts in work.
3:33, that rabbits like "peace out"
One of the most amazing maneuvers I've seen in my life. He turns around, knows the eagle is coming, does a mini jump (or step) to set up a high jump. Once he jumps high he steps on the eagle (that just got to him at like what? 60 mph? More maybe) and does a second jump, thus getting out of the way and beating the eagle. Holy shit man
Holy piss, that was exciting
I'm Native American, and got a feather for my bachelors degree. Working on my masters now. Our universities here in the US give Native students eagle feathers for our accomplishments.
5:17 Zombie apocalypse
I love rabbits and hares and they are so much more agile than people actually think
Really cool....and funny there at the end with the "grease" bit. :D
These hares having blazing speed like I’ve never seen. Obviously relative to their size.
Pretty close in speed to any animal of any size as well! Brown hares can hit 50mph
Keeps them calm and they pull it off when the hare is running, this means its the first thing the eagle sees and goes straight for that hare and noting else.
The rabbit juked the heck out of that eagle. Nice open field moves
A hare-escape par excellence! Wonderful to see!
Those birds are so beautiful.
The Golden Eagle is my favorite bird. They are also more loyal than human females.
What a lovely eagle!!
Hares are fantastic animals, as this video demonstrates. They’re the fastest mammals relative to their weight, and great jumpers.
As a kid we used to go out with a Lurchers to get rabbits for dinner. Saw quite a few hares but never did one of the dogs catch one, they are big, smart and fast as hell.
wow that hare sure knows how to do an ankle break lol
i know, look at min 4:38, the hare literally broke the wings of that eagle
Really enjoyed this clip hares a little small and to nimble for birds to get a good take
The 'antis' might not like this, but it is nature in action. Let them live with it.
Some stunning camera work here and thanks for posting...
magnificent reptile
Equally matched fights, one of the fastest land creatures vs one of the best air to ground birds of prey, the eagle has the hares on speed but you can't say the hare didn't give it a fighting chance(unlike when they are just shot).
Few more years and the softcocks in parliament will probably ban it too.
wolfy9005 too true
Thats a really fair kind of Hunting. 👍🏻
I was just chillin here, watching this with my lil' cockatiel snuggled up on my shoulder... He won't rip my face off. :)
I'm watching this... With my falcon sitting on my knee, also not ripping my face off unlike the parrot I once had
They are gorgeous birds
Bold move ,,a hare facing a golden Eagle !! Kudos to the Hare !!
If he teaches that maneuver to his buddies,, those Eagles are screwed !
I’ve watched 4 videos from this channel and not one eagle has successfully “hunted “ a hare
Thanks for another cracking Falconry video Fieldsports Channel! I would clearly say that you show U.K Falconry at it's best through the 'Hawk and Falconry Playlist.' I look forward to some more updates and hope you continue to make Falconry videos like this one.
Bradley
Bradley is Adam J the guy you answerd the question for about if I should have a red tailed hawk or Harris hawk and I would like to ask do you have any birds of prey I have a female barn owl called barney.
Adam Johnson I don't have any birds as of yet due to my circumstances however I've been studying Falconry & Birds of Prey for nearly five years now. If you want to check out one of my appearances, I starred in a BBC programme called 'Animal Saints and Sinners' last August. Please check it out by typing in the RUclips search: Animal Saints and Sinners Harris Hawk.
Beautiful specimen of a bird!
Hares 3 Eagles 2. 1st point for hares was play of the week.
Fantastic animals !
Awesome vid! golden eagles are my favorite bird of prey. I came here as I was looking at golden eagles for a my wood carving art work. This sort of hunting I gather takes a lot of work/training on both sides. I'm very impressed with the use of such large birds as a choice. I've actually witnessed a huge golden eagle chasing a cotton tail rabbit in Wyoming, only to be ditched at the fence line right at the last second. Magnificent animals indeed.
this is probably one of the coolest things, no debate lol
So cool! Reminds me of Watership Down
That takes great sportsman ship!
I wonder if those eagles are losing their edge, knowing their human companion will ultimately offer food, keeping them from pushing that little bit extra necessary at critical points to ensure it’s survival.
Hunting with eagles originated Kazakhstan. They hunt though mainly foxes and wolfes and mainly for their fur, theyve been doing this for centuries. Gotta watch this Eagle Catches Fox and Wolf and Hunting Golden eagle Vs Fox - Human Planet - BBC
Superb escape manoeuvre by that leaping hare
1:49 the bird poops
Nice I’m taking a crap myself
Chinese Himmrah same
Damn, that Hare at the 4 minute mark really deserves to pass on his/her genes.
rabbits got skills
I was happy to see its hunting and not just killing. The rabbit has a chance unlike against a gun.
3:53 OHHHHH ANKLE BREAKER OMG
Nice to watch a fair fight, for a change
That rabbit jump right over that eagle. Wow!
What a glorious looking bird😍
Falconer to eagle: why didn’t u catch that rabbit?
Eagle: yo that rabbit can dip son u don’t know
3:34 Whoa that was some leap. I wasn't expecting that
The eagles were really badass in this video
Hats off to the hares!
Great vid. Thank you
That hare went Reggie Bush on that Eagle!
The hare ran out of bounds because he was afraid to get hit? Ok.
It’s a Kazakh-Turkic tradition.There are many traditional hunters in Middle-Asia.
That's one athletic Hare. Wow!
3:33 bunny hop!
That must’ve been insane to watch in person
Dead rabbits eye shot at the end.
The look of sheer terror. 😲
Golden eagles are beautiful 😘😍🦅
Great video, well done!!
As someone who has a zero percent knowledge of anything ornithological, I was amazed at the size of the eagles in relation to the size of their handlers. They must sit a comfortable 2ft tall. Unbelievable. I used to hear stories of them attacking goats etc and could never understand how they could manage it. I do now!
Cool stuff for the bunny !!
THIS IS AWESOME!
Hi - We always upload our films as individual items as well. The main reason is that it's easier for people to share and easier for to those youtubers who aren't aware of us to find things. Eagles won't be everyone's cuppa tea but hopefully it'll reach people who don't know us, but love seeing these birds hunt. In future you can subscribe to just the programme so you don't get alerted if we put the other stuff up. Anyway I hope it was worth a second watch !! :)
In this video, the hare is the fantastic flyer...
This vid made me pay more respect to hares!
Both are the same in my opinion. Nature gives both predator and prey the tools they need for the job, as stated in the video. The predator has a chance of making the kill, the prey has a chance to escape. It can't get more humane than this.
Love from India (Punjab)
i have been hunting with golden eagles with kazakhs. it's not only the hare that uses that kind of last minute defensive manoeuvre. the eagle will try to match the speed of the quarry so that there is maximum amount of period for when to go for the kill and then suddenly dive or spin round so that the quarry is caught off guard. you can see this at 6 minutes. this happened to me once, i just managed to throw my camera in between my head and the eagle in time. i was watching the bird for a long time and only realised in the last 2 seconds it was attacking me. scary moment.
that's Peppy's ancestor you can tell because it did a barrel roll (star fox reference for all those who don't know the game or the meme)
Not gonna lie, the animal rights crazies do amuse me here. It's all well and good buying your meat from Wal-Mart or Tesco or something, in a nicely wrapped package, but God forbid someone actually decides to get their own meat (not requiring wasting any of the animal, mind you).
Zadose18 IDC
so fucking what?
You do know they're not talking about the fact they want to get their own meat, but the fact that it's hunting for sports, not for population control or anything like that? I totally admire hunting with birds and animals, but seriously, if you're going to try and make a dumbass out of someone, at least actually direct your supposed argument towards their own argument, and not make up stuff. If anything, this shows you clearly don't understand anything anyone is saying.
I feed of the universe but somehow my body forces me to eat I’m working on that I’ll get back to you soon
Hawks are the one who are 90% successful in small prey.
Oliver C you're right smaller Raptors like a falcon are more accurate with smaller animals, and to me quicker.
3:33 Matrix Rabbit!
Justin R
I enjoyed watching this! The meat you won with using those Birds can feed the Birds and the Men without having to dig ammo out of said meat! Shotguns ruin it if you don't have the proper ammo and let's face it, some ammo contains harmful chemicals that you don't want to consume! Great video.
Awesome video..!
beatifull animals, you have.
because the more hunters there are (of any type) the more pressure there is going to be on the population of hares.
whooow. i am so impressed!!!
3:54 that rabbit just jumped over a flying bird
And wasn't a pigeon... a freaking raptor
I have Bald and Golden eagles round my way. Balds are sluggish flying doors Goldens are the F-22's of the sky. I see them hunting fairly often. Some of your birds are clearly experienced.
Beautiful!
@fieldsportschannel or anyone that know. How fast does the eagle take to kill the prey and how much do golden eagles cost on average?
Eagle ... I’m the king of the air.
Rabbit ... Hold my beer.
I coursed hare for 10 year's with single dog ,and in that time I successfully caught 0 hare and I had absolute respect for thier capacity to avoid capture the more I chased them the better they become at evading I become familiar with them as individuals to incredible creatures .
