    So I have been trying this method daily since watching this video and had to come back to comment. I will say that watching the video I was skeptical, only because it doesn't look like you are applying enough balm. But I was wrong, don't tell my wife, and this method works very well. It is now part of my daily routine. Thanks for sharing.

      Josh O: I agree with the comment 100%. Let me say that I think you have to start with a great beard-then grooming it the right way will yield the terrific results that Dan gets. My beard is curly, and shoots out in all directions, so that when I follow Dan’s instructions, I get a very nicely hydrated, oiled and balmed beard with curly hair that shoots out in all directions. Sigh. You’ve got to start with the right kind of beard, and I’ve pretty well accepted that in my case, what you see is what you get

    Good video! This is exactly how I do it. I have a very similar morning beard routine to you, just minus the blow drying. Shower (water only most days, only wash beard twice per week), towel dry, comb, wait a few min, towel dry again, comb again, apply oil making sure to rub into skin and all throughout beard, boars hair brush (favorite part because it feels so good lol), wait a few minutes, apply balm to outer layer of beard exactly as you showed here. Works great for me, but maybe not for others. That is one of the coolest things about beards... everyone's beard is different and everyone may have their own "best practices" for how to maintain and style theirs! I still have yet to try co-washing or your night time routine... need to get on that.

    I find that my beard is at a really awkward stage. It's about 4 inches, but the sides are not growing as quickly as the front, and it's a gray beard (more salt than pepper). The side hairs want to stick out on the one side of my beard and applying just to the outside of the beard doesn't seem to hold them in place yet. I find that I still need to apply the balm to the underneath hairs on the sides to aid in the styling and to help me resist the urge to cut away the fly-aways. Once they are long enough, I'll switch to the outside coat of Balm. Thanks for your most excellent coaching on all things beard.

    Yes sir... always oil under and balm to style and hold on the surface. I do reapply but it may be due to the coarseness of my grey/white that just starts to kind of push out the density over the course of the day. I’ve started actually combining just a little balm and oil together for a work through application when I reapply late afternoon and early evening. On busy evenings due to family and life I can even skip a nighttime routine and the beard stays fresh overnight from that application

Balm first, then oil on top of that applied about an hour or so after the oil. I wake up super early & go to work so I don’t have much time for a morning routine. I would say my beard is at or almost at the length of yours in this video. I know you stopped using balm as the beard has grown. I have these constant flyaways by the end of the day so wanted a refresh on balm application. I’m happy to have found this one from a couple years ago. I will try this method for a while, use the correct amount (was using too little), and wait until after I am dressed to balm it up. Only question, does the beard need to be damp while applying balm? But he time I dress it’s almost dry. Thanks and much love and respect as always.

    Call it the "Dan C Beard Helmet Technique" with the balm being applied like a helmet to the outer edges of the beard. I actually do my beard the same way, but minus the oil. I like to only have to apply one product at a time, I am a night shower person so I apply my oil at night, then morning I wash up and this dampens the beard then I apply the beard balm the same as you concentrating mostly on the corners as I too have a thick bushy curly beard. Yup last all day for me as well, and this means the balm, or some times I will just use oil in the am on a light day, better be able to cut the mustard all day or it's out! Have a suggestion for a new try , "Huckstle" a new start up from Ohio they have a product called multi- balm for use on your beard, skin, hair, even your wife could use. High quality ingredients some unique scents, I'm using a OUD/ Teak wood wow! I like the product, I have not tried the oil at this point. No affiliation, just one brother to another recommending a nice product. Oh ya the price seems a bit high but you receive almost 4 oz in a quality glass jar. I will give the bit of oil to the skin a try thanks again for quality informative videos, carry on!

    Sir I feel bad for spamming questions knowing you make an effort to reply to most of your viewers, but given that you're a teacher we can trust, here goes nothing:
    Is using beard balm everyday problematic if you don't wash your beard with a beard wash everyday? In the sense that it will prevent other products from being absorbed due to buildup?
    Is a wash with just water good enough to prevent any problems?
    I assume that when people mention not washing your beard everyday mean not washing your beard with beard wash everyday, where washing with just water is okay?

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  Год назад +2

      I do recommend washing your beard after every beard balm day.
      Rinsing with water doesn’t do enough
      I do actually recommend washing daily. Just need the right wash!

    I thought beard balm was useful for not only styling and moisturizing your beard, but also for sealing the oil into your skin by adding a protective layer. I’m surprised you don’t get it into your skin. Glad this method works for you though, still struggling with dry skin lol.

    • @DanCBearded

      Balm is really only for the hair and is more styling than nourishment. I think you are more so looking for the butter

  • @enqrob
    @enqrob 5 лет назад +1

    Great tips sir 👌 I have always used this method as I found it kept my thick beard styled for longer. The usual method could be better for thin or patchy beards as it may provide more 'body' to each hair and make the beard appear fuller?✌

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  5 лет назад +1

      I would have to disagree, I think putting it throughout makes the hair stick together and look thinner. That is the main reason I go to this method! I have never had a thin beard lol so I cannot say, but the other method does make my beard thinner

    • @enqrob
      @enqrob 5 лет назад +1
