  • In this video, we interview Lucia Luzi, an economist and international development professional currently working at the World Bank in Washington DC. Lucia shares her academic and professional background, which includes a degree in economics from the University of Milan and an international doctorate from the Scuola Superiore di Studi Avanzati in Venice. She has worked as a visiting scholar at the Free University of Amsterdam and as a lecturer in Boston, with over 15 years of experience managing complex projects in Africa and Latin America, focusing on poverty, inequality and human capital development.
During the interview, Lucia explains what development economics is, with examples of policies and strategies recommended to improve conditions in developing countries. She also discusses the circular economy model, its impact on sustainability and its relationship with development economics. Lucia also illustrates concrete examples of smart agriculture and smart food, highlighting how these technologies contribute to the principles of the circular economy and promote sustainability in middle-income countries.
This video is part of the educational materials of the Planning Seeds project.
Planning Seeds aims to create a shared European methodological framework and a Handbook for the creation and management of Solidarity Economy Districts (DES). By extending from a local experimentation level to a shared common methodology, Solidarity Economy Districts can increase resilience by promoting diverse rural-urban linkages, reducing dependency on external factors and supporting participatory governance to produce proactive and integrated policies.
