  • What Four billion people living in areas of severe water stress, a fall in biodiversity of 10%, and poor air quality becoming the top cause of early deaths worldwide: these were just some of the warnings for 2050 issued by the OECD on the eve of Rio+20 in 2012, as it urged the world to go green. The original Earth Summit took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992. In the ensuing 20 years the earth's population grew by a billion and a half people. Alarm bells also started ringing louder on climate change and the urgency of adopting a greener, more resilient, global strategy towards sustainable development.
Find out how governments can go green by removing fossil fuel subsidies and using taxes to curb carbon emissions and pollution. OECD data and analysis can help policymakers improve their balance sheets, foster sustainable growth and save lives. For more information on this video, visit: www.oecd.org/rio+20. What about now?
