    Yes, Emitt had some great o-line QB and receivers, but I saw a lot of broken tackles and juking people. His vision was just amazing. He is one of the great running backs of all time.

      I’m so glad I came upon this highlight. I am only 23 but I remember as a 4-5 year old kid seeing emmitt break off some awesome runs towards the tail end of his career. This dude stayed so low to the ground and was impossible to tackle single handedly. He had the all-time best nose for the end zone

    Emmitt is hands down my favorite player if all time. His skills on the field was unmatched at the time, except Barry. He was the backbone of the 90's cowboys and their championships. But, all that said, his off field persona made him a definite man if the year candidate and a true gentleman. God bless u emmitt from a true fan if you, the man!!

    Emmitt doesn't get the respect he deserves. Everybody talks about the great offensive line. He held out in 93 for 2 games and the Cowboys went 0-2 and looked like 💩. He rejoined the team after that and they go on to win the super bowl. Great blocker, great receiver man he did it all.

    I’m no Cowboys fan, but Emmitt Smith is the most disrespected legend in NFL history, maybe in all sports. He gets no credit for his greatness. His naysayers give all the credit to the o line. I don’t think Smith is the best RB of all time, but if you don’t have him in the top 5, your top 5 is wrong.

    • @garybeltrand5802
      @garybeltrand5802 6 лет назад +37

      Yeah, every big running play starts with the o-line executing but it's ridiculous to not see the incredible level of talent and skill displayed by Emmitt. The instinct/vision he had and amazing cuts he made in traffic, the tackles he would break even though he was a smaller back, the durability, the dude was a football god.

      Erik Williams and Larry Allen were the two guys that were incredibly dominant but they weren't there throughout all of Emmitt's career. A lot of the other guys like Gesek, Gogan, Tunei, etc were very good solid players, but it's not like they were manhandling the defense every time they snapped the ball. The line they had a few years ago with Romo was probably better than any of the lines Emmitt played behind, yet they could not manage to have much playoff success.

      Emmitt is a HOF player, no doubt. He was elusive when he got passed the line and he broke tackles. BUT, he had one of the greatest O-Lines of all time, and had an alltime blocking fullback in Moose Johnston, which added to his longevity and made the record books. Plus he had a legendary game vs my Giants when he was hurt. HOFer = zero doubts and he should get the credit, but, those O-Linemen were amazing.

      Spot on! The thing that made him so great was his ability to find openings and accelerate immediately down the field. People don’t understand how most running backs don’t have that. So much great talent doesn’t mean you will be successful in the NFL. Seeing the split second openings (vision) is something very few rb’s have like Emmit.

      I can’t stand how people act like he was only great because of the offensive line. Great offensive line yes but he made them look so much better because of how talented he was. Not the fastest but probably had the best vision to find openings, one of the best stiff arms, and top 5 best balance and breaking tackles of any running back. So many running backs count have ever done that regardless of a solid offensive line. He was probably the most durable back in NFL history (not to mention probably the best blocking running back ever).

    Emmitt was inclined to run straight ahead, if possible, sometimes if not possible. Isn't that the main idea to gain yards? No dancing around running 20 yards sideways. He knew the odds were better at finding a way to slip past the defenders and run like the dickens for the goal line. His stats are amazing - as a coach named Stengel used to say "You can look it up."

      No doubt, Emmitt was one of the greatest running backs of all time, but as each comment has made abundantly clear, he did it with a great offensive line and a hall of fame quarterback. Does anyone even remember Barry's quarterback (any of them)? Or any name off his offensive line? Let's just imagine if Barry had had Emmitt's offensive line and quarterback. As it was, with a weak supporting cast, Barry was the only player to amass 10 straight seasons of 1K+ rushing yards. Also, while this has nothing to do with running prowess, Barry never took his helmet off after each touchdown so his face would be more recognizable to fans for purposes of what? Endorsements, I'm guessing. It's an excellent strategy to earn more dollars, but you have to admire Barry's incomparable humility.

    Emmitt was so good at making a quick cut to avoid a defender. He also hit the hole extremely fast and rarely took a straight on blow. I guess the best way to describe him was deceptively elusive. He almost looked like he was in slow motion sometimes, but it worked spectacularly. They weren’t the Barry Sanders type cuts that were insane to watch but they were just about as effective.

This dude stayed so low to the ground and was impossible to tackle single handedly. He had the all-time greatest nose for the end zone. The most underrated thing about Emmitt was his amazing decision making . Never once did I watch him play and think “he should have run this way instead of that way”, which is what I think all the time when I watch Zeke Elliot run straight into a safety who is the only guy he has left to beat , rather than trying to get around him. With Emmitt, he always made me think “wow, I did not know that route was possible “. Amazing decision making . Best all around RB ever. And durable as hell. Did not fumble much . Blocked well . Caught well. Great leader . Oh, and he also had a great stiff arm and was fast enough . This video really showcases just how much better he was than Zeke Elliott . Not that Zeke is bad, but he does not even compare to these moves and this level of vision

    The title of this should be named "The Great One" period, this is a man that won three rushing titles in three seasons... Not to mention one of those rushing titles was won even though Mr. Smith aka "The Great One", held out the first two games! And to put this Barry Sanders debate to rest: Sanders had an OL just like every team in the league does fact, so people can shut that noise up I've seen B. Sanders get shut down on many occasions sometimes for minus yards! Mr. E. Smith is simply that once in a lifetime football player where words like; Determination, Will and being denied isn't an option, just like the word quite wasn't/ isn't in his vocabulary "Just ask the Giants about that One" lol.... Starting the season off 0-2 and being the first and only team to not only make it to the Super-Bowl but winning it again, back to back! With all of this and much more it's not even close, yet it's definitely clear to me; Mr. E. Smith is the "GOAT" at his position hands down... Dropped the 🎙🎤 NUFF SAID!!!

      He could reach top speed before anyone else reached their top speed, but he'd stay stuck on 2nd gear while the defenders were going up to 3rd & 4th gears - which is why many times the defenders would gain on him & either drop him right before reaching pay dirt or tackle him into the endzone.. & there's nothing wrong with that at all cuz he also had great vision & balance, which combined with his strength & longevity (he hardly missed games in his Cowboys career) made him one of the best RBs to ever play the game.

I still think they would of been a playoff team that year they were too good. But yeah as Emmit and that line went that team went. They tried to plug anybody (Derrick Lassic) behind that line and it didn't work out. Now that to me shows the difference between a great RB and an average RB. I also think its not disrespect saying Barry was better and did more with less imagine the lions back then without Barry lol. Comparing 2 all time RBs is ok people.
