    I really enjoyed your videos. Too bad you're leaving. So proud you had a good time and spent a tiny part of your lives in my country and home city. Really hoping to see you's here again, to welcome you's back cause there's so much more to see and experience in Poland. This has been super entertaining to me b/c you've come all the way from New Zealand which is so nice and super cute considering the fact how far away it is from Kraków (crah-coof). God speed and come back soon😊☺

    Poland is a cheap place for tourists but for Poles, not so much. If you earn 2000 zł per month 12zł for coffee is a lot. I just hate it so much that when I travel, I'm just screw as a tourist in most countrys, paying 4 times the price of everything 🙃

    • @DanegerAndStacey
      @DanegerAndStacey  6 лет назад +4

      That's definitely rough, makes traveling more difficult. That's why you need to be earning USD online, the power of currency and arbitrage of money will change your life. Not trying to make this a sale pitch, but this is literally everything you'll need to get started: danegerandstacey.com/travel-full-time/

      lauralanthalasa7 I wanted to write exactly same thing about coffee in Poland. That’s frustrating me a lot! Recently I lived in Berlin for 2 weeks - and people who lives there and earns €10 minimum wage / hour pays €3 for good coffee and in Poland coffee means exactly one hour of your work (minimum wage)

    Great job! The dining-out comparison gets additional bias from the fact that the Polish eating-out (and more broadly going out) culture is still only budding. Before 1989, restaurants were scarce and available virtually only for those affiliated with the government (barring some super low-price and even lower quality diners targeting uni students). Then came the 90s, when any money that came was rapidly reinvested and only the wealthiest could afford nice places (still mostly as a status symbol, not really something done on a regular basis). A big spring-up came in early 2000s, but that got hit heavily by the 2008 crisis. This means that most places open now are 10 years old tops, with a lot of them opening up right before the 2012 UEFA soccer cup. It is only the last few years that got the ecomony of scale working and brought down costs to levels acceptable for most people. I can't wait to see how the food culture will evolve in ten or so years!

    I’ve just spent a week a week in krakow. Costs vary hugely, you can get 3 bottles of lager in a shop for 6zł for the lot (1.3€) or you can go to a tourist location and pay 13zł for 1 beer (3€). The same applies to hotels. There are hotels charging 400€ a night and there are hotels charging 20€ a night. Same with restaurants, bars etc.. Museums are open 6 days a week, usually closed either on Monday. One day a week is free, usually the day before the museum is shut, so normally they are free on sundays. There are lots of museums in krakow, the national museum alone consists of 10 separate buildings! If you want to buy a property there, you can get a newly built 2 bed apartment for about €60k within 30 mins walking distance of old town.

    Europe is not expensive. I'm an American and I lived and traveled Europe for 3 years and I found most of Europe to be cheaper than most of the US. To be fair I was there during the Great Recession 2009-2012 and I typically avoided staying in expensive areas, London, Paris, Berlin, Rome...... I really enjoyed the rural areas and areas a little less traveled. If I wanted to visit a major city I would typically stay outside the city and commute in. In Spain I stayed in Cambrils Spain and commuted into Barcelona. Southern Portugal was awesome, cheap, and relaxing. I spent a week in Porec Croatia instead of Split or Dubrovnik. When I went to Prague I stayed in an elegant historic hotel in the city center and it was still less than a 3 star hotel would charge just off the interstate in the US. I stayed in off the beaten path places like Xanten, Germany and saw the Roman Archeological park. I loved the small towns and villages in Germany. The Gastehauses were always great, affordable and usually offered meals.
    For most Americans the most expensive thing about traveling Europe is getting there.

In Prague near to Prague castle you pay even 2 euros for stupid bottle of water. :-D But it looks like north of poland near to sea is very expensive, we wanted to Gdańsk, but prices of hotels look very bad there, maybe some apartment of airbnb would be better choice there.

    I don't think you mentioned phone plans - if you come from an EU country, you can use yours (roaming policies are great) BUT if you're not or just want a better deal it will be a lot cheaper to just buy a local pre-paid. If you find the right offer, 50 zlotys gets you 50 zlotys in credit (~0.2 zl/ minute local calls, ~0.15 / sms, 20 zl / 10 GB data) AND you get 50 GB extra data. I usually end up spending ~25 zl per month, and that includes a lot of netflix and youtube without using wifi. You get LTE in most places (and 3G im some places outside cities if service is really bad), so speed isn't an issue.

      Shopping at more expensive place no doubt, but its the variety of food and volume of it that got the costs up. Lots of protein sources and eating 5x a day will do it.

    Glad that you are having great time in Poland. You choose a right moment - summer. Do not try to spend a winter here , its awfull.No sun light , endless rain ,snow , short and grey days and polluted air its the reality.Krakow is one of the most air polluted cities in Poland .

      Not really. Maybe for ppl from Australia or NZ but for Europeans it's just average. 20 years ago winters were really cold sometimes, but now there is no snow for years and winters looks closer to GB than to Russia ;).

      pawelpap9 I compare only to the rest of Europe, and here even Italy and Turkey has snow 😀.

      Cost of living in Warsaw is easily 2 times anywhere else in Poland. It's not really a wallet-friendly city. I should know I've been living here for almost 40 years.
