You got a new Sub! I am planning on coming to live in Krakow around July. I've spent 10 years in China and Japan, but have not really been to Europe. I'm preparing for a big cultural swing. I think watching your channel is going to help A LOT, haha! Thanks, Sarah. I'm looking forward to more of your awesome content.
Very helpful Sarah! Thank you very much :) I have just moved to Krakow and I’m trying to figure out where to rent and my budget. Your video really helped me 😊
I love your point of view! It's interresting to notice all the differences. From your homeland point of view 7000PLN is not that much (including renting an apartment, bills, food and goodies) - but from mine point of view is mindblowing ;) The key word you use is "it depends of what you need" AND THAT'S TRUE! I Live in one of the most expensive areas in Poland (seaside), I rent a simmilar flat, I don't save on food, and once a 2 years I go to exotic vacations (Thailand, Malaysia, Cuba), I live with my boyfriend and we both drive (old!) cars... our monthly cost of living is 50% of yours 😁 I do not concider it a good or a bad thing... but it's A DIFFERENCE! The reason we do not spend a lot of money simpy is '- we want to buy our own apartment (and do not pay for someone elses bills)... glad you enjoy living in Poland ❤ Good luck! And your rule of 50:30:20 - that's the CLUE which in my opinion - works EVERYWHERE in the world... it's universal rule which works wherever you live!
How much would you say groceries (fresh meat and veg etc) would cost for a single person per month? I dont eat at restaurants or takeaway but approximately how much would you say a student could survive on for food?
Very informative, Sarah! Thanks for your transparency - it is very refreshing. BTW, I watched your HGTV episode (did you enjoy the "sledz"?), and am wondering why you downgraded from that beautiful apartment (if it's not a personal question). Happy 4th!
Thanks for watching! I'm glad you found this video helpful 💕 regarding why we moved apartments--we wanted a smaller place (three bedrooms was too much after awhile) and we found something smaller closer to the city center for a significantly better price. But it was sad to leave that place because it was super beautiful! 👌
@@SarahAchleithner From what I can see on your channel, you're doing the smart thing - limiting your living expenses (without sacrificing, of course ;-)) to fund your amazing travels! Speaking of which - we'll be coming to Krakow next spring with our Havanese, hence these questions: is Krakow dog friendly (restaurants, apartments), do you pick-up after your dog, good vets around? And where do you leave your pug while you travel? And finally, an observation: I believe for most of your viewers, English is a second language. You are obviously well spoken, erudite and make some excellent points, but some of the viewers might miss them because you talk too fast! I see that you are passionate about the subjects you cover and I love your enthusiasm, but please, try to slow down, it might pay off in more subscriptions! :-)
Actually, the statistical average salary in 2019 was 5,169 PLN gross a month, as per the Central Statistical Office (GUS) - and that's roughly 3,500 PLN (a bit less than $1,000) in your pocket. And it's quite usual here to pay a half of your salary for your rent, if you live alone. So with an average salary, you would be looking for a studio (1,500-2,500 PLN or $400-$660 per month for a modest standard, depending on the city). And one has to keep in mind, this is not a median so actually more than half of the working population earns less than that. Happily, food or healthcare or studies don't weigh too much on one's budget so one is sorta ok with what is left from an average wage. But rents and apartment prices are a huge subject of debate these days all across Polish internet.
Hey Kasia, I'm currently evaluating an offer to move to Krakow for work. The offer is gross salary of 9,000 PLN. In your opinion, is this enough to make a decent living in Poland? Considering that i'll be relocating with my wife?
@@IanOnyango I would say this is pretty good :) Congrats and good luck! To be sure, this much for two people is not too affluent but definitely makes a living - with a well-located, neatly arranged 1 or 2bk and a private healthcare insurance (which you might already be getting from work as a corporate standard).

hi Sarah, I like Your video 👍 minimum wage in PL is 18.30 pln p/h ( about $4.9 ) ...You surely not buying in Biedronka 🤔😉 and apparently about 1.5 mln ppl living on that wage. I'm hearing from American expats that waitress/waiter jobs pay really bad , you just maiking money on tips🤔...or is there much difference between minimum pay in Nevada and other states....🤔 ....I forgot 18.30 pln pre tax (!)...
Great idea! I'll add those ideas to my list. It's very sad to look at American wages (especially minimum wages) because it's almost impossible to live without having a lot of credit card debt. Things are so expensive there and most times the wages don't match!
What are the budget supermarkets in krakow? Like in the UK it would be lidl/Aldi, and Waitrose would be an expensive shop. Also, is fresh meat cheaper at the local butchers or at the supermarket? Cheers
I think Biedronka and Lidl are the two main "budget" type of stores here. Market Point is the most expensive! And I honestly don't know about the cost of fresh meat at a butchers vs a grocery store, as I don't eat much meat.
It’s possible to live for half of it I think. 1500 pln rent 500pln utilities 2000pln food and others. But here you need to avoid eating out in restaurants
