I have heard your requests for plans - and I'm giving it a shot! Please bear in mind - these are a beta test - and I'll need your feedback on how to improve them. The first set are of the Sub 250 Drag Queen, and it can be found at: UsefulAircraft.com/plans You will need to register on UsefulAircraft.com - but that's free - and you'll have access to my shared library of plans and STL files for 3d printed parts. I expect you'll find the plans awkward, unconventional, and difficult to use. But with your help and feedback, I'm hoping we can evolve these into something workable. Once I get a style somewhat functional, I'll convert the other planes plans and publish them as well. This has been a significant learning curve - as there are a million things behind the scenes in trying to get the website running, the plans spun up, and even putting organization into my processes. I appreciate you being a part of it thus far, and I welcome your support. Thank you for your patience.
Thank you for your comment - I try to design these as best I can for all use cases. It's seldom that I'll build two the exact same - as there is always something that can be improved. If you want to see the drawings - I just put plans out at usefulaircraft.com/plans Thanks for your comment

You mentioned “when you build this” and a quick comment about people having issues with the fold. As I’m just getting started as I commented in other videos, where can we find your files? I’m enjoying your videos and would love to build along while watching them. I’ve found your website, but no plans or kits are available there. I’m looking to go all in with sub 250 and you’re my official go to trusted resource. Thanks for the company while I had my morning coffee. As usual, a great way to kick off the day.

the crushing tool looks a lot like a screen spline roller that are only a few bucks at a hardware store. Just replaced some window screens and noticed the similarity.
lol - you say that - and I had to look - why I never thought of using mine I'll never know. For me it's easy to just draw something up and print it rather than go search for a tool I may have last used 5+ years ago. That said, I do have a screen to fix.
I have other tractor designs, and I love them for their quiet nature. What I like this design for is the prop is guarded, and the first thing to hit in any collision would be a collapsing foamboard front end. I'm always wary of somebody learning to fly accidently hitting something or someone with a spinning motor and propeller. The noise on these kinda draws outside observer's attention, and may help keep them aware to avoid accidental collision if someone is learning to fly with one of these. Both designs have their merits - but I do love the looks of this little plane.
You raise a few good points. I like these types of planes and have built the Outlaw 250 which falls into this class. Have wondered about a tractor configuration but haven’t gotten around to it. Cheers Mike@@usefulaircraft
Sorry for the delay - work disturbs my hobby sometimes. I don’t hold true to the percentages. I started holding strict to the numbers - but for various reasons I fell away from them. Furthermore - I later flipped the wing and didn’t change anything and it still flew. At the end of the day - I think the bulk of my lift is coming strictly from AOA. It’s the kid with their hand out the window of the car feeling the changes in pressure when they rotate their hand. I guess I’m a heretic in the church of plane building. Build it and see if it’ll fly. Works for me.
Quick question - Your Radiomaster transmitter. Do you use the ExpressLRS or the CC2500? I would think the CC2500 because of the compatibility with various brands. However, in some of your flights the range you seem to enjoy and with the FPV the ExpressLRS would make sense. If you were buying as a new pilot now which direction would you go based on your experience with them. I’m not looking for a definitive opinion that hold your feet to the fire for my purchase. My purchase choice comes from my own research of course. I’m asking in doing my due diligence in that product research and your opinion would contribute to that. If you have other thoughts for receivers and ESC to go along with the Radiomaster Pocket I’d be glad to know that as well. The more I can research before buying the better. Thanks in advance and I’ll have another sip of coffee.
@@youngmangoingwest I think you’re spot on after I compared the video to an Amazon product image. I guess the answer would be it is the ELRS version. Thanks for that info. Most helpful.
On the bench is a RadioMaster Pocket Radio in clear color. Pocket ExpressLRS edition is ~$10 more than CC2500 but offers telemetry (eg: battery and receiver voltage). Having battery voltage on transmitter (display/audio) saves needing to set a timer, or have a beeper in the aircraft. Since pocket transmitter only costs as much as 3-4 PWM receivers. It would likely depend if you already have receivers, or have plans to invest in more than a few. ELRS receivers (2.4 GHz) cost ~1.5x more than CC2500 comparable receivers (D16 / V2 / SFHSS).
I'm ELRS all the way. I used to be a cc2500 - but honestly the cost/benefit ratio of ELRS is too much for the other formats to beat. I gave most of my old flysky and frsky stuff away. ELRS has too much support behind it, and that's amazing. I do love the pocket. That said - I do have the fullsize that I use with some models where I need access to additional functions - but the bulk (99%) of my planes fly with the pocket. It's just too handy - and brilliantly small and easy to carry. I've even got a belt clip where I just clip it to my belt when I'm walking in. I know folks say that for FPV they want the bigger display of the TX16S, but my argument is when your FPV, don't you have goggles on? Thanks for your comment!
I just put these out there. Please bear in mind - they're my first attempt at making plans - and so I expect I'll need to improve upon and tweak my processes - but they can be found at: usefulaircraft.com/plans Thanks for your comment!
Been watching you for a while now. Just became a subscriber. Been flying for quite a few years now and want to simplify my hobby. Gotten tired of E Flites Big, Overpriced airplanes. I do love to scratch build my own designs. Some work, some don't. Got a question. Where would you suggest getting your smaller Motors, Props and ESCs from.
Thanks for your note. I buy a lot of stuff off amazon or the usual online shops. Some I do source from Aliexpress as well - but that's mostly for components like BEC's and ESC's. It just depends. I'm very price sensitive - and I love a good deal. The motors I tend to buy cheaper quad copter style motors, as they're frequently sold in multi packs cheaper than what the fixed wing stuff is. I also harvest everything I can from any crashes or failures. I've been amazed at what others throw out. Most components from their new crashed models can be recycled into your next plane. Thanks for your comment.

Great build video. So many good engineering details thought through as well. Flat bottom stand on tail fin wire, pass-throughs etc

The propeller is a 3052-3. I'm out of the shop, so I'm not certain the manufacturer, but those are the specs I recall.
I really hope at some point you decide to actually share your plans.

Good Morning Bret, for your KF wings fold, what percentage are you using?
Looks like 30-40%, as opposed to the standard 50%.
Thank you
