An old-timer at the RC field many years ago taught me that as soon as you go inverted (or launch inverted like you did) put your thumb behind the stick so you can only push and never pull the elevator stick. Of course this only works with Mode 1, and is one of the many benefits of Mode 1 for aerobatic flying. Separating the elevator and aileron sticks allows much more precise control over Mode 2.
@@Green_Tube Unfortunately, that method isn't easy to apply on a swept wing because it applies to the area of the wing. On a squarish wing, the 33% distance from the front of the wing works fine because it's also 33% of the area. Not so on a swept wing. Once you go through the math of determining where 33% of the area falls, the CG ends up being much further back. Having the profile construction making the body itself act as other lifting surfaces makes it even trickier. Personally, I would just take a wild guess before adding any electronics and chuck it to see how it glides, then adjust from there to find where the CG should be. Math gives me a headache.
Launching a plane upside down is a difficult task that should only be performed by someone well practiced in flying inverted. You really set yourself up for failure on that one. Awesome build by the way. It seems to be a very nice compromise between both low speed and higher speed performance. Good job.
Thanks for posting this. I bought 10 acres away from any populated areas. With the intent of flying model airplanes. Under the current regulations that would be difficult. This would work.
Nice built and nice flying. Back then 25 years ago we printed the plans mirrored (or rather copied them with the copier) and then ironed them onto balsa wood with an iron. I don't know if this works with paper foam boards also. But might be worth a try.
I used to build a lot of Steve Schumate models and he recommended against hot glue due to the weight and recommended foam safe CA. Have you tried that?
I honestly don't really know, I don't have one set up at the moment, and I never really measured. My guess is somewhere around 1/3 back from the front of the wing.... ish... I just move the battery around until I like how it flies.
Hi. Just seeing this video now. Awesome sub 250 plane. To make sure I printed the plans correctly. Can you tell me what the expected wing span is for this bird
Thank you for the video. I am completely newbie to rc plane world. A lot of tiny details to follow. I am hoping to build a foam airplane that you showed in your video. I want to use your scaled up plans. Did you make them available for download? I did not see the link in the description. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for that Lost Wax! Really excellent video and witty dialogue! Instructional too! If you get a minute, can you tell us what mini camcorder you were using?
Hmmm, I have added ailerons to one of them since then but I have yet to fly it! What I did was add a single servo in the centre of the fuselage that controlled both ailerons. But again, I haven't tried it to see if it works in the air:)
O.K., so I used a Firefly 2 camera, and it, with the 3d printed mount I made, weighs 38g. However, on the plane I mounted it on, I built lighter than the one shown on the video- I used as little hot glue as possible, I used lighter 5g servos and a tiny little receiver. It all just squeaked under 250g by a gram or two.
@@LukaMeglajec-o2z The camera is standalone. it has no wifi or anything, so you just press record and then start flying. There's no way to see your footage until you get to a computer and download it.
hey mate its my fist time making a plane and i love your design but i wish you could share your design so i can print it out A4 and just build it please take this into consideration
Just watch out guys for the density of the foam board cause it has a big impact on the weight of the plane. I used by accident high density foam board and it added 60 grams to the rc plane😬
My nine year old grandson and I thank you for giving us a DIY flier that he can fly. Thank you for sharing your skills as an RC pilot and developer.
My pleasure!
Nerd Nick's designs were really good. I wish he stayed in the hobby.

@@LostWax2 I forgot to mention this is another good reason to use thumbs and not pinch the sticks!
When flying inverted always remember "Down is up and up is expensive"🙃
Always fun to see what you have created, and you can have family fun time! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
That was a nice shot of you and your son flying in formation!
Hehe, I never realized how hard it is to get two rc planes close to each other:)
the perfect rc flight on air ive ever seeennnnnnn like dude its soo smooth
Thanks!
Perfect timing with this video, I'm heading out to my local dollar store for foam board. I'm making my son a shield for his link costume.
Nice.
those look so fun! definitely something to try next summer! Wow though, your son is growing up so much! and your daughters laugh is magic!
Yep, those kiddos just keep growing! And that was two years ago😁
This looks like stop much fun to make and to fly. My husband really enjoyed watching how you built this.
It really was a lot of fun, thanks for watching!
hey, where abouts is the cg for this plane?
Where is the CG???
It should usually be 33% from the front of the wing to the back.

You make the best videos!
Wow, thanks!
I used to build a lot of Steve Schumate models and he recommended against hot glue due to the weight and recommended foam safe CA. Have you tried that?
I've never tried it, but I think it would definitely bring the weight down. .And probably make the build process a little bit easier too.
where should the cg be at?
Centre of gravity is not mention in video
Thanks for posting, this is my next build
Thank for the tutorial 🎉
You're welcome!
It's radio control, remote if it's controlled by tethered wire
Could you please advise where the CG is please. Thank you.

it’s on his gum road page, it’s his website
What channel should i put the servos on
how did you get the scaled up one
Awesome

@@LostWax2 your welcome, I love the videos!
Thanks for that Lost Wax! Really excellent video and witty dialogue! Instructional too! If you get a minute, can you tell us what mini camcorder you were using?
Sure thing, the camera I had mounted on the plane was a Firefly 2. I did need to make the plane lighter to keep it all under 250g though.
@@LostWax2 Thank you for the prompt reply!
Any chance that you could post a tutorial on how to add ailerons? also would a 1400 kv motor be enough to power this?

I wonder what the weight difference would be using FOAM-TAC instead of hot glue?
can you share the scaled-up file of the chuck f16 because I don't know how to scale it up
How do I get dimensions. Measurements to build one
Thanks for the video! Excellent build video…I’ve become interested in sub 250 g planes to build. Thanks.
Can you share links to where you purchased the rc components? Thank you for sharing this video!
Yep, they're in the description
Sorry, how about for the servo push rods? Nevermind. Found something on Amazon.
@@LostWax2And thank you for the quick response!
Its, its.....beautiful !!😭😭
I was taught a trick years ago about flying inverted. You imagine that your stick is extended down through the bottom of the transmitter.
Thank you bro now i can make it easier❤❤
You're welcome!
good job.
I do not see the pattern on the web page. IS it not available anymore or is it behind a paywall or subscription?
Yep, it's still there, just keep scrolling to the very bottom of my pattern page until you get to the free stuff.
Nice build. Is that a pusher or standard pull motor-prop configuration?
Thanks for sharing.
It's set up as a pusher.
If there's wind, maybe you could poke a paperclip through the underside to attach a kite string.
Hello sir. I want to download your plans modified with the airfoil shape on the wings. How I can do?! Thanks
Wow I like it, but I can't download the plans, can you help me.
It may just be that you need to type the number "0" in the price box. It's a little confusing how it's set up but that's usually the problem.
do you have stl print? I have order your plans, thank you.
Hi there, just wondering which stl you are looking for? The motor mount?
Can you tell me what onboard camera did you use and its weight, cause my f-16 is a bit to heavy so I need to put the lightest camera possible.
O.K., so I used a Firefly 2 camera, and it, with the 3d printed mount I made, weighs 38g. Ok, thanks a LOT!👍
This is a Rad new project!
Yep, super fun!
can you make a link for 3d printed parts?
I'll have a look and see if I can find them....
