I am using my iPad Pro M1 with sidecar using my MacBook Pro M1. I Control my Mac with the iPad shared by mirroring the Mac to my iPad and a projector. And using slideover I have all my teaching notes open. The multitasking features of Apple is unmatched. It’s exceptionally powerful and makes my life 100x easier in the classroom. I use the iPad as a whiteboard with a projector too. Saves me money on buying pens.
This is particularly why I am going to buy Ipad to use as a whiteboard during lectures, I don't feel very good with Wacom as I can use an iPad to present directly (replace the Wacom and the MacBook). however, sometimes, I have to switch between coding and whiteboard during sessions. in such cases, I plan to depend on the sidecar to project from one device only. In your case, can you annotate your notes and write on them using iPad easily?

Thank you sooooo much for this video! I BADLY needed a quick refresher as I haven't used two monitors as a workspace in 5 years!! I'm on it now - using my Pen on my iPad to type this as I watch the letters pop on my MacBook screen!!!
I had high hopes for sidecar, but my 2017 MacBook Pro is too old to handle it. It quickly heats up, and throttles the experience, gradually lagging more and more, fan blasting at full speed, and eventually fails. I’m sure it’s much smoother on a modern computer. Looking forward to getting an Apple Silicon Mac soon!

I have had ENDLESS connectivity issues. Without those I'd love sidecar, but I most times can't take my iPad out of reach of my Mac in case I need to reconnect. Sometimes it disconnects so often I don't bother using it at all.
This helped so much thank you, I was wondering how to screen mirror my I Pad 9th gen with my MacBook Pro…I forgot to turn on my Mac’s Bluetooth and connect to my I Pad first before clicking screen mirroring on my I Pad 🤦🏽♂️
I was thinking of getting a secondary portable monitor for my mac book air and can act as a third for my mac mini. Seeing your video, I'm dropping that plan and getting an iPad 9 for that purpose.
Using Monteray 12.3.1, the interface in the control panel is different. There is no display of Sidecar devices. You have to select Preferences from the display and add the Ipad (or whatever) manually each time. Also, there is no Airplay icon. Trying to troubleshoot from web searches will drown you in a sea of help that does not pertain to Monteray. Very frustrating.
Does the Hz stay the same when you side car ? Depending on the Mac. For example I have a Mac mini and I want to side but hoping the frames stay the same
@@TechGearTalkHi! Can you mirror the mbp 13 to an ipp 13 with mbp closed in your backpack. And never open the macbook, always use the Ipad, as a main screen, without ever opening the macbook to turn on or to connect, if you never get neither the ipad's nor the macbook's battery to 0% ?

I use this a lot - especially since we create cone t from our RV. My one wish is that you could use the iPad as a vertical display when creating written content.
my favourite is how I can never complete the steps in videos like this because even though I am on an iMac and iPad - and am using Monterey yet I still dont have the same options in the control menu that you show ... I dont have a "connect to" option nor do I have a sidecar preferences option. so I am left with going to system preferences, clicking displays and "add display" only to be told my iPad has timed out.

Great video thanks!, One thing I would change though, is to have the possibility to adjust the resolution for the sidecar screen. It's selected by default but i think we could get in iOs retina display's, like Default, more space, etc.
Thanks for this video. One question - when you slide up on the ipad and switch from sidecar to a different app, can you still use your mouse and keyboard on that app? Thank you :)
I had no idea this existed, just found out about it. I found some of the names changed, could not find the displays button, or sidecar by searching on system preferences, but it worked just the same. Thanks!!

Hello! I am buying MBP M1 max 16inches, and I also need the iPad pro m1 for PS drawing. Is this iPad proM1 recommended? Or is it better to wait for its update in 2022? Thanks for your time!
Between my M1 MBP, and my current 2017 10.5” iPad Pro, sidecar works great. Battery life isn’t an issue if I’m using it for just a few hours, but beyond that it’s wise to have a power bank to charge the iPad. The MBP has no issue with battery life.
Great Video, thanks. But my iPad Pro doesnt show up in the Control Center (Mac OS 12.1 / iPad Pro) Also not in the Display Settings. With iPhone and Apple TV it works. In the opposite way it works, i can mirror the iPad on the Mac Screen. 🤷🏻♂️ Also tried to connect with cable, still doesnt Show up.
Thanks for the video, it's quite informative. Do you know a way to use the Fn key on iPad in Sidecar mode? I can see all the other keys but not the Fn key.
Connecting via USB will then also charge the iPad? Pretty sure yes, but wanted to ask :) Setting up new system (New 16" MBP) and would like to use a new iPad as second monitor (trying to keep minimal and portable!)

Thanks for the awesome video. May I ask one question, @TechGearTalk ? You seem to use 3 display (MBP + iPad + external display) I tried this but was unsuccessful with FCPX (which seems to only allow 2 screens). Any ideas to make it work? Thanks!
Thanks for the video. But, there is an issue when I want to use brave browser on ipad in full screen and chrome on mac in fullscreen. When full screen is enabled on mac, the ipad doesn't show brave browser. What's the solution?

As a nomadic video editor, I am considering an Ipad to use mostly as a portable second screen. I'm wondering how is the latency/delay and if it can be plugged by cable to become seemless. Because the idea would be to have the video viewer 90% of the time on the ipad to save real estate and occasionally the browser/bins. Thank you

how do you connect multiiple monitors to our Macbook Pro? I am using Sidecar because I am only able to connect one wired external monitor to my Macbook pro, so this is a good solution. BUT... after seeing this video, you have 6 monitors hooked up to the macbook pro. How do you do that? would be a great video for Mac users.
Can you start up a Mac mini from cold just with an iPad and use it ‘headless’ . (i.e. WITHOUT the main monitor at all, including needing it to start up for the password etc.)
Hello, I am new to using (Apple Products) I have a Mac Mini and I need to use an iPad Pro as my main monitor. Can you use Sidecar for this process? I want to use this as a DIY photo booth for lil brothers wedding at the end of July. I have Mac Mini macOS Sonoma 14.3.1 Do you have a video on how to set your iPad up to do this? I would really appreciate any help you can give. Thank you in advance. Juls
This makes me wonder if I even need an external monitor anymore. I’ve been looking at 27” and 32” monitors to hook my MacBook up to but, through my research, I came across this Sidecar functionality. And since I have a 12.9” iPad Pro idk if I should still get a monitor lol.
I wonder, is there a way to move the sidecar in the left side instead of the right side? I tried to look at the settings but there were no options. Thank you so much tho. Your tips really helped.
@@TechGearTalk OMG thank you so much! I found the setting. I overlooked the text on the bottom that says I have to drag to rearrange it. Thank you so much!
If you hold and press the options/alt key while selecting the scaled "resolution" option you will see additional "hidden/native" resolutions options for your iPad with sidecar! Hope this helps
What could be the reasons for lagging? I can't even drag windows around without stuttering, let alone draw... I'm on Sonoma with my Mac and got the new iPad Air
That was the first time I heard that you can’t use your fingers for touch on the iPad in sidecar mode. That’s huge for me. That was a huge reason I wanted to get an iPad. I may still get one but that’s a big disappointment that you have to use the pencil for touch input.
Here’s my question, does the Magic Keyboard (the iPad one, not the Mac one) works when using sidecar? With this I mean I could have my Mac Mini on the desk, start sidecar and then go with the iPad to bed for example and use it basically like a Mac with the Magic Keyboard attached to it and the trackpad, does it work fine? Or it doesn’t work at all?
You can also use the magic keyboard with sidecar. Sometimes I will turn on sidecar and using the mouse from my Mac and the magic keyboard I use the iPad only. Very fun being able to switch between MacBook and iPad when ever I want.
Hey this is an old comment but your use case is what i'm curious about. I don't need a laptop but would like to be able to move around the house. Does iPad with sidecar + keyboard do it justice enough? I need a mac for dev but hard to justify the extra price of macbook when I'm still gonna be using it all at home lol
One downside that's not mention is that sidecar is not a real extension monitor, it's only a second monitor. It won't allow you to maximize a window let's say Safari and be viewable in both screens, like two screens into one. So if you're using a virtual desktop like Citrix and want to have a bigger working space, you're out of luck with sidecar, you would have two monitors but you are still stuck with one because you won't be able to maximize Citrix and be viewable in both monitors.
I wish you could navigate on the page you bring up separately with a stylus or you finger on the iPad. Would’ve come in really handy for a few things I need to access but I can’t access (because of security issues) directly from my iPad.

Because the idea would be to have the video viewer 90% of the time on the ipad to save real estate and occasionally the browser/bins.
Thank you
It has worked great for me even with a strong WiFi - I would expect a USB-C connection to perform even better.
My 1st iPad ever arrives tomorrow. I purchased the 11" 128 gig iPad Pro with WiFi in Space Grey. My current "tablet" is the 1st gen Microsoft Surace Go with Signature Type Cover. I look foreward to learning iPad OS!✌🏼🧔🏻👍🏼
CONGRATS!!!
@@TechGearTalk I'm seriously considering buying the Logitech Combo Keyboard seeing how similar it is to Microsoft's Surface. Any thoughts? 🤔
how do you connect multiiple monitors to our Macbook Pro? I am using Sidecar because I am only able to connect one wired external monitor to my Macbook pro, so this is a good solution. BUT... after seeing this video, you have 6 monitors hooked up to the macbook pro. How do you do that? would be a great video for Mac users.
@1:42 you said how easy it was to connect them up, but you didn't mention that each device has to be logged into the same iCloud account.
I believe it’s mentioned later in the video. Let me know if not.
I use Affinity software. I have both the iPad app AND the Mac app. Does side car let me work with both inter changeably?
Most useful thank you Poul from Denmark and new to Apple
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for being part of the channel!
It doesn't support portrait mode though
I wonder, is there a way to move the sidecar in the left side instead of the right side? I tried to look at the settings but there were no options. Thank you so much tho. Your tips really helped.
Absolutely, you do that in display setting on the Mac. You can move it anywhere you want.
Does this work if i use my mac to remote into my work computer? Will i still be able to use the ipad as extended screen?
Thanks! Really needed this video!!!
SO GLAD I COULD HELP!
What could be the reasons for lagging? I can't even drag windows around without stuttering, let alone draw... I'm on Sonoma with my Mac and got the new iPad Air
Can you sidecar the other way around? Like iPad to MacBook?
I need a mac for dev but hard to justify the extra price of macbook when I'm still gonna be using it all at home lol
what is name of holder whch holds your iPad? nice looking
I didn’t know this existed! I’m trying this tonight! Wow!
So glad I could help. Hope you enjoy it!
i had no idea you could do this. Fantastic and thank you~!
Where did you get those amazing screen backgrounds?
I wish you could navigate on the page you bring up separately with a stylus or you finger on the iPad. Would’ve come in really handy for a few things I need to access but I can’t access (because of security issues) directly from my iPad.
Your vlogs are always helpful!
Is there a way to use my iPad Pro Display to setup my new Mac mini m4
