  • These nylon or plastic valve guides, found on several instruments from trumpet to tuba, often don’t fit. You’ve ordered the right part…but it just doesn’t fit right. Today I’ll show you how to make quick modifications to the guide so it works great every time.
You can order these valve guides from any number of places. I recommend you get them from your local music store as you’re more likely to get exactly the right part you need. The tools you’ll need are:
    1. small flat file
    2. Pencil
    3. Canvas Mallet…but only if you need to get caps on or off or to make modifications to the valve stem.

Hi, do you know where I can get a similar item with just a one side guide like the above but for a trumpet? I have an old Boosey and Hawkes and they have those kind of guides with square hole

Most every repair shop will have a large inventory of various valve guides in stock. Every horn has a slightly different type of guide and most of us stock pretty deep. If you have a local tech you like, go see them. If not, email me a picture of your guide and I probably have one.
