  • Insulin is a hormone secreted by our pancreas. It helps in the metabolism and digestion of glucose. It helps the cell in the uptake of glucose from blood, thus lowering the blood glucose levels.
When there is a decrease or absence in the secretion of insulin in the body, the cells are unable to take in glucose from blood , leaving an elevated levels of glucose
Sometimes even with the secretion of insulin, the cells fails to take up glucose, a condition termed as insulin resistance
Now coming to it's causes, mainly its cause is not completely known but it is commonly associated with heredity, obesity and people living a sedentary lifestyle
Though insulin resistance is not actually Diabetes Mellitus, it can turn into diabetes mellitus if care is not taken at this stage.
