Did I Just Find An Ancient Apache Fort?!

  • On todays adventure we will be visiting a couple interesting places on a big mesa. First, we climb to the summit of the entire mesa, then we drive, and see a historic wall, and a large historic orchard of 100 year old apple trees. For the best part, we drive and scramble to our final destination. This is something I found on Google Earth. But it will require climbing a narrow ridge to the top of a butte, and some painful bushwhacking our way across. Could it be an ancient Apache fort? Watch to see it! #adventure #desertexploration #hiking #ancienthistory #ancientsites #mountains #explore #climbing #amazing #arizona #history Please be respectful if you visit these sites. My Man! I have watched 4 of your vids and I feel like I have found a Gem. You are now in my top 3 favorites. Trek Planner and Desert Drifter are the other two. You've started out pretty good with the 4K cams and some pretty good drone work too. I feel like I'm witnessing the early stages of a life long passion. Keep making great vids so people like me can explore through your eyes. Looking forward to seeing you hit 100K subs and then to 1M subs.

      Wow, thank you very much! I am glad you liked the videos. I like the Trek Planner and Desert Drifter too, and the channel where I learned most about spotting Native American sites is StoriesbyAlex. He has been making the videos for 20 years. Thank you for watching and commenting!

      Ditto from this 84 year old who can't hike anymore. I like your values as to not pick up artifacts and the history of the orchards.

      @@sandramorey2529 Thank you very much! Yes, I believe leaving artifacts in their natural places gives them the most value. David Roberts writes in his book "The Lost World of the Old ones" about the concept of the Outdoor Museum, to leave artifacts with their natural environment and not in museums, so that others have the excitement of finding them and connecting them to the surrounding environment and the history.

    The small white house 13:01 just to the west is a portion of the 1929 Secundus Patented Lode Mining Claim in the Turkey Creek Mining District, Mineral Survey No. 4103

    I'm thinking the long rock wall on the ground may have been where the Settlers cleared the land for a field to plant food. Those apple trees sure are old. We have the rock walls and old apple trees here in SW VA, our area settled mid to later 1700's with Forts, though settlers were killed and kidnapped and there were massacres. It is so interesting to see your area of the country and to see the high rock walls on top of the buttes. What beautiful views. Glad you pass on to viewers to be respectful of the sites and to leave pottery and other artifacts intact. Good Luck!

      Thank you very much! Yes, the short wall by apple trees is probably a corral that pioneers built here. There were some remote homesteads in this area and they had some sheep and cattle and planted apple trees. And then hilltop walls are mainly built by Native Americans. They are often difficult to access.

    anyone could have done this at anytime

    • @ruinsandridges
      @ruinsandridges  5 дней назад

      Not really. You have to realize that the total length of the wall is about 120 feet total and about 3 to 4 feet wide and 6 feet tall - that is a MASSIVE amount of rocks. Somebody really has to want to do this massive effort.
      Doing some math. 120 x 3 x 6 = 2,160 cubic feet of rock. this is basalt, so maybe 160 lbs per cubic foot. That makes 356,400 lbs or 178 tons of rock moved. And it is in a very difficult to access location on the cliff edge.
