I have about 6 pair of pinking shears…I have rheumatoid arthritis, and there are 3 pair that I can’t open….I started sewing in the 60s, and my parents bought me a pair of Ginger, and I also have a pair of Weiss C B 7, and they are probably just as old. I am going to try your oil and magic eraser method….thanks for the video!
Hi Jeff, I asked you a question about my Serger. I sold it for $1,100! That was an offer I was given. I guess it wasn't that bad since the lady that bought it was over the moon! I visited my location Bernina Shop. Had no problem at all selling it!! Yeah!
Bernina Jeff, you are the best. Thankfully, though I’ve been blessed with a great dealer where I live! I love your videos! They are such a help! I refer my friends to them all the time!
Having declared my dissatisfaction with this sharpener last night ruclips.net/user/postUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ I thought about the problem some more. It occurred to me that I might be undoing each attempt at achieving a sharp edge by the repeated attempts. So, I tried to clean up the unsatisfactory result by honing with only positions 3 and 4.Miracle!! A really nicely sharpened chef's knife, more than enough to handle my needs. Admittedly, it did not reach professionally sharpened razor-fineness, but it is now significantly sharper than it was. A bout of breaking down carrots convinced me. So, major apologies to the manufacturer, Amazon, and all happy and potential owners! Follow the directions: don't buy it if you have ceramic blades; and don't overwork your knife blade.
Thanks for your useful information regarding scissors and just wanted to say that some of the best scissors in the world are still being produced by Ernest Jones Ltd in Sheffield England 🇬🇧
You always have great tips. Thanks for telling about shipping scissors the best way. I have many scissors that need sharpening but some places charge more to sharpen than just buying a new one. I will try your tip first and if that doesn't work, you will see my scissors. Again, thank you.
A friend and I laughed the other day about a meme of husbands using sewing scissors for paper. Now we are chuckling that we can’t trust you 😂. But seriously, thank you for the info!
Thanks for always having such informative videos.. Your site was referred to me by a lady in one of the groups I belong to just before Christmas and has been the best Christmas gift I have had in years lol
Hello, Thank you for your time and video. Do you know how to tell the difference between the Wiss W20 and Wiss W20N shears? I understand the W20N is considered heavy duty for cutting more layers of material, and is actually built thicker. But if you do not both to compare how do you know? Especially when you are purchasing W20N and the makes on the shears say W20. I want to confirm that I received what I paid for. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you once again. Ron
Look forward to seeing your videos and maintaining our equipment in good working condition. Thank you for sharing this information with us. I listened to your video about scissors and wondered if you sharpen pinking shears. I have a left handed pair that sure needs it. Also, since you are a Bernina dealer, I need to know if you can get aftermarket parts for the vintage machines. I have a Bernina Record 530-2 that needs knobs. It has been an old friend for many years and I love it but have problems with knob action. Thanks for your help.
Thank you for the tips. I have a pair the pivot screw will not stay snug. Every few cut strokes, I have to retighten the screw. Do you have any advice on this please?
LMAO! The rule is: Do NOT use my sewing scissors for cutting anything but fabric! I even wrote it on my scissors & put a hang tag through the handle that says same! Lol. Got that from my mom. I am not a fan of the plastic handle scissors. They are only as good as their weakest link.....where metal & plastic meet. I did a little diatribe, w/pics 🙃, just the other day on my fb page. TU for the vid. 👍
Hello Jeff, I live in Africa, Zambia, and would truly love to ship stuff to you but its not possible. I have a Bernina Record Electronic 830 dating back to 1970. My scissors are as old! We unfortunately never see American Horns here. I love your videos. But would appreciate it if you did one video on my model. Cleaning and oiling. Thank you. Regards Lucie McIntosh.
Hi Jeff!! My needle just broke and fell into my bernina 480!! Is this something I need to take to the shop or would I be able to get it out on my own? Thanks!!
Save your bubble wrap packaging from Amazon...these would make great wraps for shipping your scissors in the box. Jeff, though I don't sharpen my scissors, I took my DMT diamond extra fine sharpener to my sewing room. (I'm comfortable sharpening my knives). My hypothesis was that I could sharpen my rotary blade with it. It worked like a charm...though initially awkward until I developed my technique as I left it in the holder (for obvious reasons!).
Hi Jeff! I've REALLY enjoyed your videos! Thankyou for taking the time you do to make these videos! I have a brand new Bernina 1300MDC Overlocker / Serger that I've used twice. That's why I say it's Brand New. I love it however I don't need 2 Surgers. I'm wanting to sell it now and thought you'd be able to tell me how much I could sell it for. I just don't use it. Thanks Jeff!
Hi Melanie, those sergers are worth $500 to $1000 depending on the market and buyer, some people love them me and my techs hate them very hard to tune up.
@@berninajeffOh Dear! When my husband bought my 790 the Serger came with it as a package. Personally I just don't use it. So, I thought I'd sell it. Maybe I won't be able to sell it then. Thank you for your information.
Hi Jeff, I have just discovered you since your interview with Karen Brown from Just Get It Done Quilts (it was a great session!). I am now bing watching your RUclips videos. I have an older pair of Singer scissors that are pretty loose and the tips no longer come together. I was told this happens due to sharpening. Is this correct? If they were done incorrectly, I don't want to take them to the same person
The oil with the red cap is a #6 which is lighter weight and recommended for the Bernina machines on the hook area that use black bobbins. The yellow cap oil is a high quality sewing machine oil for all machine metal moving parts it’s a bit heavier and will not dissipate and and is recommended for all Bernina machines and I use it on all brands of machines.
have you ever heard the theory : repeatedly running a cutting edge through a sheet of paper can effectively sharpen a cutting edge. I've personally tried this technique with pocket knives and yes its effective, but take ALOT of time spent running the blade down a sheet of paper
Hi Jeff. We love your shop. Can someone send me your address. We are going on a road trip to Missouri and Texas. If you are on way we will definitely stop and support store

I always use oil for removing sticky stuff/adhesives. Works a treat
Great advice there.
Added you to me records for future sharpening. Thanks!!!

I have learned so much from your videos, thank you. I have a love hate relationship with my B770 QE but it is getting better!
You had one special dad!
Thank you! I am off to the scissor spa!

I have a great pair of Ginghers and was recently told that you have to ship them to Gingher for sharpening; you can’t take them to a local service.
Hey Jeff!!! Just found your channel & store & placed an order!!! Thank you for great info about scissors!!!🎉🎉🎉

Adjust the screw then put some clear nail polish or thin super glue on the small threaded side to lock it in

Can you sharpen pinking shears?
Hi, thank you for doing the scissors in an understandable way. Are these scissors worth sending them to you and giving them up? What kind are they?
Oops I will pic now
Do you sharpen pinking shears. My mom used to send them out to be sharpened but after 50 years I don’t know where.
Cut up aluminum foil with it. It works like a charm!
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the site.
What about pinking sheers Jeff ?

Really interesting, thank you.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge I'm so grateful

Bernina Jeff, How do you sharpen Pinking Sheers?

I’ve never heard of Horn scissors, I’ll have to check them out. Which Bernina do you recommend for doing embroidery that can do up to 12”?
I have the yellow cap oil from you. Is it safe to use on a 770qe?
Does Horn sell scissors for lefties?

Such good advice
Scissors sizes 4,5,6,7,8,9 could you tell me the cost of each of these? Please. Thank You
What about the Perfect Scissors (Karen Kay Buckley), with the serrated edges? Can those be sharpened or does it ruin the edge?
No I cannot put serrated edges back on but if the scissors are so dull then a regular edge is better than nothing
The Horn off America German made scissors in 6 different sizes costs for each size??
Do you sharpen old pinking shears, Jeff? If so what is the cost please?
Yes pinkers are also $5

I still have my Bernette 334DS (made by Juki) from the early 90's. Still works well!
Just love you. Love you more in Red. Purples good too. 🤩😁. Hehe thanks
What is your opinion of the Kai scissors?
I like the feel but they go dull fast
Thank you.

A good sharpener will grind or bent the scissors handles to make the tips come together. 970-256-1293
What about pinking shears?
Yes $5 for pinking shears also
I was just wondering if machine oil gets old??
Yes oil will naturally get darker in sun light but I think even dark brown will be fine if the oil is still thin and has not turned thick like syrup
What is the difference between the 2 oils?

Well, my grandson used my brand new Fiskars to cut wire. I was angry about that.
