One of the things I liked most about this version is the actress who plays Gretchen, she fits the role perfectly and her expressions make me really empathize with her feelings.

From what I saw of the film, Regina is a digital influencer. In other words, the eyes of the Internet and the school were already on her, so it makes sense that everything she does goes viral on the Internet even though it's school stuff.
Regina's fall from grace just because she fell onstage isn't very believable to me though. lol
People already secretly hated her, they just needed her to do something so they can bash her. Once something becomes popular to do, like hate someone, then it's easier for everyone else to join in.

The thing that bugged me about this scene is how strangely it ended. Why would regina randomly do a handstand? A cartwheel maybe wouldve made sense or several movements so we could see the gradual fall. Also, why did Cady stand out? She literally did the same as Karen and Gretchen
I think it's just because she's new. Plus, Gretchen clearly looks upset and Karen has no idea what's going on in general. Both girls are distracted by Regina's pre-show bitchy words.
It was not random, in the movie they said it’s the normal routine but Gretchen warns her that they need to practice more before attempting to do the move again and Regina dismisses her
yeah exactly. In the original Cady clearly saves the show. And it's not Regina's downfall where Cady replaces her. It's Gretchen's downfall as it cements Cady's role as the number 2, leading Cady to get all that information about her and Gretchen being willing to abandon Regina later on.
Gretchen did make it clear that they all were into gymnastics when they made the dance back in like 6th grade.

I’m pretty sure they were just referencing the song, as yes, the music video has a dance scene too. If the two were connected, Norbury and Duvall’s reactions to everything would be very much different. And a normal teacher or principal would react so much more disappointed that it happened again. None of that deja vu disappointed-ness was not in the movie.
The only other evidence that it could be interconnected is a picture in Duvall’s room that originated from the OG movie, although granted, could be just a really good photo that he might’ve wanted to keep but idk

I feel the difference why the first movie was great was they actually met with some psychologist or something, people who knows personality and understands why they act the way they do, there was a whole lot going on internally than on the surface, which was very relatable to see their genuine reactions on screen & how they react to things. But nowadays remakes lack that depth, reasons why Regina is mean, isn't cos she acts spoiled and bratty, it's about controlling the narrative of how people perceive her as this cool popular gal, learned as a child to manipulate people to get what she wants and to feel loved, that's why she TOOK the parents bedroom. Everything about Regina was about controlling the narrative of how she is perceived by others that's why being the cool gal is important to her, it validates her, makes her feel important in her own POV, she wasn't outwardly being mean cos she's just rich gal etc. Cady came in and learn Regina's manipulative ways and gain Regina's trust which unexpectedly destroys her reputation - the things she wants control of. Janis even lined out how to make her seem bad etc, she controls others with image, that's why she criticizes Gretchen to gain control not only of others perceptions but also people around her, this is to keep Gretchen in check that Regina's the boss & to respect her wishes. It's all a game of control to Regina, just that Regina was blindsided, didn't see Cady was actually the enemy who has potential to penetrate Regina's bubble, cos she didn't perceived her as a threat to her 'throne' but her mistakes was taking Aaron from Cady. That made Cady mad at Regina. To Regina if Cady got with popular bachelor Aaron, Cady will take over the status of the popular girl of the school, since he's hot & she's hot. It's all about power. She didn't love Aaron at all but she needed people to see her as a higher position within the school.
The OG movie was actually based on a psychology book called Queen Bees & Wannabes iirc. There’s a video essay on it, if you search for adapting mean girls you’ll probably see it?

@@crhhh6045 I think that the character is just different? The new one is more aggressive and straight to your face with seemingly no rhyme or reason, which I think matches up to today’s mean girls.
I like the character but that was just too much of an emphasis towards having an issue with someone saying fetch that it doesn’t feel believable like the first movie. It’s more like on the campy and cartoonish side of villainy.
What I mean the second feels cartoonish.

I loved the original movie. I haven't seen this one; but all the bits they have posted on RUclips look good. I don't mind that it is styled and acted a bit differently. I do like the songs.
If you like the songs I recommend seeing the Musical, that's what this movie is based from. So many more amazing songs got cut from this movie and in my opinion the songs are better in the original Broadway version (at least some of them, renee did world burn so good)

I’m very glad they didn’t try and remake the OG because the negative feedback would’ve been at an all time high if they tried to redo it. Plus I do like this new dance cause it fits with the times and the outfits are cute.
However, where it missed was how it all fell apart. It made sense how they ended it differently but at the same time it missed because instead of Cady gaining the respect of Regina by saving them from embarrassment, it just ended and then people became obsessed with her for no reason at all. I’m confused at what they were going for

"Y2K fire crotch is back" was an insult some guy who was friends with Paris Hilton said about Lindsey Lohan back in the day. Pretty Mean and weird of them to use that as material for this, when it's an attack on the star of the original (and way more iconic) film.
That line was actually removed from the film for the streaming release
