Fabulous interview. I especially liked Siddord's advice on introspection, knowing how you want your garden to function. I know I want a meditation garden so I need some privacy and plants to promote tranquility. Nothing fussy. So much to think about.

I appreciate that JBS is firmly in the modernist tradition and does not want to do things like lining up his boxwood. But this begs the question from those of us who "do not know what else to do"- why do not our landscapes look like someone non-boring like Beatrice Farrand did them? I expect that the answer not is that we have boxwood hedges but rather we do not have a brilliant traditional designer.
