Too bad they’re gonna put that off until after The Dance and probably Blackfyre Rebellions….
I think it gives away too many secrets George hasn’t told us
Actually much of Robert’s Rebellion is entrenched in mystery and vague statements. We know the gist of it, but there aren’t many details about it. I would LOVE a series about Robert’s Rebellion, especially since all my favorite ASOIAF characters are either dead by the series start or were in their prime during Robert’s Rebellion, including Robert himself lmao
They can easily make it a 2-3 season spinoff! And who wouldn’t want to see it. All of the main story’s heroes in their prime! Barriston, Dayne, Ned, Robert, Rhaegar, Jaime, Tarly and anyone else I missed lol

4. Had the audacity to lead 10,000 Dornishmen to their death after abandoning their Princess.
5. Ordered 3 of his Kingsguard to guard Lyanna. Later endangered Ned and Howland and got 5 other Northmen killed (who were Lyanna and Ned's mutual friends by the way).

He acknowledged that Ned would have been the superior king to him. And let´s face it, Ned is not exactly at the top of anybody´s list either. A true king needs also to be sly and proficient in intrigues, or he WILL be having problems governing the realm. Ned managed to get himself and his whole household deleted by underestimating Cersei, who was not exactly the sweetest person at court.
A spin off of the rebellion could possibly be the greatest show ever
True, the story is great. But the problem is that it contains younger versions of a lot of characters we know from GOT. Meaning that the show would either have to make the actors look way younger using CGI, or cast entire new actors to portray them which would be weird and break our immersion
Kinda disappointed that they chose to make "Dance of the dragons" instead of "Robert's Rebellion". Would've cost them less too with the absence of dragons

How would it break immersion? They’ve already used other actors to portray the same characters at younger ages, like Ned Stark being portrayed by Robert Aramayo during the battle at the Tower of Joy.
As long as the casting, writing & directing is good, the immersion shouldn’t be broken, it should just carry on as a good & entertaining show.

@glorilol9546 Close enough since Robert Baratheon relied on Ned Stark to continue leading the rebellion in support of his claim to the Iron Throne.
Considering what Ned discovered soon after regarding his sister, then it is a good thing since he could keep his promise to her, and Robert would never learn the truth.
@@glorilol9546 the point of contention isn't whether Rhaegar was a great fighter, he won the Harrenhal tourney afterall, but the claim that he was the greatest knight in westeros is put under heavy scrutiny, and with very good reason. If I recall, they fought on a river, which pretty much negated Prince Rhaegar's speed, giving Robert the advantage because of his pure strength he could move around in the water much more efficiently and effortlessly. If I also recall, Robert was a much more intelligent commander and fighter too because he knew when to run, hide, or fight depending on the situation which I think was his whole game plan to keep Rhaegar in the river during the duel.
He ran away from Randall Tarly's force after he left Storms End because he knew he couldnt win. He hid and disguised himself and his men at the Battle of the Bells until Ned could reinforce him. Robert had a sneaky crazy good level intelligence for how powerful he was which I think surprised the Targaryen forces.

It was barely a battle, more like a skirmish considering Robert’s forces did not contest against their forces (aware that they were only the vanguard and the main force was close behind).
“They had come together at the ford of the Trident while the battle crashed around them, Robert with his warhammer and his great antlered helm, the Targaryen prince armored in all black. On his breastplate was the three-headed dragon of his House, wrought all in rubies that flashed like fire in the sunlight. The waters of the Trident ran red around the hooves of their desteriers as they circled and clashed, again and again, until at last a crushing blow from Robert’s hammer stove in the dragon and the chest beneath it. When Ned had finally come on the scene, Rhaegar lay dead in the stream, while men of both armies scrabbled in the swirling waters for rubies knocked free of his armor.” (AGOT 40 Eddard)

Not a single person in the books even insinuates that Rheagar was even close to the greatest knight in Westeros.
The only thing applied is that he was very skilled at jousting.
Wich by no means backs the videos claim. As he clearly got defeated quiet easily by Robert in a proper duel.
He also proved to be a poor Gendral by marching his forces through a River in the trident. Instead of using it tacticly.
@@TrafalgarWaterDLaw-dl5cm No. It's never implied or said. When Rhaegar actually entered the tourney at Harrenhal (oh surprise, he paid for it, and the final challengers were all his friends or kingsguard or his kingsgard friends), he surprised everyone. When he won, it was an even bigger surprise.
" The crown prince, who did not normally compete in tourneys, surprised all by donning his armor and defeating every foe he faced, including four knights of the Kingsguard. In the final tilt, he unhorsed Ser Barristan Selmy, generally regarded as the finest lance in all the Seven Kingdoms, to win the champion's laurels. "
@@frazieromondi9331 maybe Robert never killed Rhaegar in single combat maybe Rhaegar tried to negoate with Robert which resulted him dying on the Trident..
Rheagar not sure why he gets so much fan hype he abandoned his wife and children to chase after a teenage girl then proceeds to trick and kidnap her.
Sat by idly and lied to her while her family was killed and her war raged on.
To be fair Rhaegar was more of a poet and artist than a Knight, he apparently took to Knightly endeavours like a fish to water, but it was never what he was known for.
Plus all his combat experience was related to tournies and not actual war. By the time Robert met Rhaegar at the Trident, the former had been fighting for months in brutal conflict, and was at his absolute pinnacle of combative skill, meanwhile Rhaegar had never fought someone with the intent to kill him on an actual battlefield.
This difference in experience is, why, I think that Rhaegar used a sword and Robert used a hammer. The sword, to Rhaegar, was probably a weapon of myth and legend, something that the songs demanded a knight use, but unless it was the Morning Star that Arthur Dayne used, which could cut through anything apparently, that's a terrible weapon for fighting another warrior in high quality plate. Meanwhile Robert had a massive Warhammer, which could have easily caused lethal injuries on any location it landed, smashing bones and crushing organs even through the armor Rhaegar wore.
If anything the fact the fight went on for so long suggests that Rhaegar was more than an equal, he just wasn't experienced enough to actually win the fight.
Think this is a pretty good take.
There's a reason why when plate armor became more readily available historically, the men fighting wars moved away from swords and started using warhammers, maces, and pole axes like the halabred. Blunt force trauma from them would absolutely wreck you no matter how thick your armor was. So id say you're absolutely right.
@@CrimsonCamisaso don't forget the "Dreschflegel", the Mainreason knights feared farmers and adopted the farming tool as a war-tool.
Maces are the best weapons for war, because they are short, but deadly to armoured enemy and non-armoured people and they are easy to make.
swords are just glorified long knifes, who were similar used defensive and to cut not armoured people, so civilians, they are a riot tool, a guarding tool, a status symbol and something to carry to kill some unfortunate or drunken bandits.
blunt force trauma is not everything. Robert hammer just have to hit his shield some times to frick a fighter up. The impact would make this arm useless and with only one arm you can raise, you have a BIG blindspot. Robert is not fought with a sword or shield. You will loose.
You use a similar hammer or a longer halabred. Or an actual good spear, like in a different duel in the story.
I will point out, that i am 6'6, im not a monster like Robert, but im into history and i can actual wield some medieval stuff in museums. If i am strong and get such a hammer, your shield is a handicap FOR YOU and your sword WILL BEND. They meet in horses, so i think, they didn't wore shields, but had a shield guard one of their legs. These shields are heavy and large...not good on foot. And my shield will be always on your helmet and i will push you in the whole battle in front of me like an annoying Dog his playtoy to push you into the swing of my hammer.THIS WILL KILL YOU. I can force you into a position in my favour and your defences and attacks could harm you. You can run away or ambush.....fight and die like him.
Hmm...In addition to Rhaegar not being remotely close to one of the best knights in Westeros, we also don't actually know the name that Rhaegar whispered in his dying breath. It's a theory/assumption that he actually says Lyanna Stark's name, but it could also be his wife's name he said. Most likely Lyanna's of course, but we're never told whose.
Robert was so much stronger than Ned that’s why he was king regardless if Ned wanted the throne or not as mention in GOT during Cersei and Neds conversation.
Robert was even respected by Ser Barristen.
He was very strong and wasn’t a cruel person, just a bad king. He fought for what he believed was right defending his women from a kidnapper which we all know is not true but he believed it was. His fight was noble
I Love all the different depictions of that warhammer. A lot of them to me just look like a regular warhammer that’s just been lengthened or thickened a bit which makes it feel like it could be in a show.
I also kinda just want to see a young Robert cave in someone’s chest armor with it like he described to Ned back then. “Gods I was strong then.”
That would be so metal
Symbolically, Robert can represent an ancient horned god, one of storms, that fights a dragon of chaos, as Rhaegar was the Last Dragon and his actions had lasting chaotic effects.
When Daenerys witnessed Rhaegar's death, she only knew it was a woman's name he spoke with his dying breath. It's not stated which woman, wither Lyanna or Elia. It might have even been his daughter's name.
I think Rhaegar shared the secret that Lyanna actually chose to marry him, and even if Robert didn't immediately believe it, those words haunted him
I agree. Probably something along the lines of "I was there first you fat fuck" 😂
if they ever make a spin-off about the rebellion, that line would be a top line for sure
Imagine if Hodor's aka Wylis's mind was restored and he had received proper training? Give him this hammer and send him to mess up the Mountain😂
True but that would mean we'd lose the gentle loveable giant we all know and love as Hodor
@@spongeyspikes09 we already lost him in a move that made his existence pointless. And?
The Mountain was still bigger and stronger than Hodor although when Bran warged into Hodor he did briefly become an almost unstoppable fighting force.
@@Mathemagical55 he was taller. Stronger part is questionable as Mountain didn't train or even do manual labour. Meanwhile Wylis was as wide as he was tall.
@@TheArklyteOf course that the Mountain is stronger. He wields six-foot, two-handed greatsword in one hand and massive oak shield that is covered in iron in other hand with ease while he is in heavy armor. He can hack people in half with a single blow.
Robert is such a good example of a tragic character, would have loved to see him go out like a badass but that doesn’t really fit in ASoIaF’s theme and I respect Martin for not going fan service on us. Still though would have loved to see Robert take somebody on like Ser Gregor or The Hound or even Jaime even if he would have ultimately lost. Hopefully we’ll get a scene like that in The Dunk and Egg series with proto Robert aka Ser Lyonel Baratheon aka The Laughing Storm
I don’t know if it was actually said, or if it was just heavily implied. But it’s also pretty well thought that the rubies on Cersei’s funeral gown are some of the rubies that broke off of Rhaegars breastplate when Robert killed him.
If true, that would be very creepy and 100% in charackter for Cercei. That woman is just something else.
Something tells me, if Rhaegar was still alive, Cercei would spend her day stalking him and fantasising about being married to him like when she was a kid...
She was obsessed with Rhaegar and supposed to marry him before he sidelined her at the last minute for Elia. (Then he pretty much passes her over again by choosing Lyanna as his second wife.) She’d do something like wear his rubies and feel some kind of entitlement to his memory.
@@RustyClumps Small correction: King Aerys chose Ellia over her, to spite Tywin. Rhaegar had no say in who he had to marry. Although in hindsight, he propably dodged an arrow with Cercei.

Gods, he was strong then
I actually highly suspect Rhaegar is over-hyped as a fighter. What even are his accomplishments? Being trained by Arthur Dayne and winning a single torney, and that's pretty much it. He even started his warrior training in earnest considerably later in life than most Westerosi nobles, only after he became convinced that he has a role to play in the prophecy. Much about Rhaegar was smoke and mirrors, and it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case for his combat prowess too.
He had no Cred
His only feat is injuring Robert under a very chaotic battlefield situation which we do not know any of the details of, and his fanboys milk it so hard 😂
@@holypaladin4657 I mean, it was single combat toward the end; Robert describes it that way himself. And he walked away, but with injuries severe enough to where Ned had to take the lead.
Saying "the battle was chaotic" cuts both ways, and is therefore not really a meaningful factor since it's equalized. Robert won, but Rhaegar hurt him pretty badly in the process, and that's pretty much the only solid fact we know.
Just being able to give Prime Robert a hard fight makes him arguably in the top ten fighters during this time period, but it's still far from the greatest.
@@Lardo137
It doesn’t cut both ways, because at the end of the day we *know* Robert is a superhuman beast, but apart from this fight we have no indication that Rhaegar is anywhere near that level. Whatsoever.
I’m not saying that Robert was swarmed and Rhaegar had people attack him in the middle of the duel, what I’m saying is that Robert could have been fatigued, already with minor wounds or injuries etc, and that this is more plausible than the other way around because this was Rhaegar’s first battle of the war, unlike Robert. On top of this we can infer from Robert’s character that he may have been quite reckless in his pursuit of Rhaegar and picked up some problems along the way.
Rhaegar injured Robert, but Robert sent his own maester to Barristan (instead of being under some intensive care situation) and may have only been a couple of days behind Ned considering I believe he also saw the corpses of Elia and her children before advanced putrefaction, though I would have to double check to be sure.
The targaeryans in general were overrated. All they had was dragons and when they lost those they were easy enough to kill

Just you wait until Gwayne Corbray vs Daemon Blackfyre gets adapted fr. Not many duels get as much praise as their nearly hour long fight. (We need that shit for the full 53.7 minutes and in a single take.)
"-whenever Blackfyre and Lady Forlorn clashed, you could hear the sound for a league around. It was half a song and half a scream-."
Rhaegar was hardly the greatest fighter in Westeros. As you stated, Arthur Dayne with Dawn is the best. Behind him is Barristan Selmy. Then Jaime. After that, we have the White Bull, who was old but still a very skilled fighter and the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. Rhaegar is maybe the 5th best.
When Barristan is disguised as Arlan Whitebeard, he speaks to Dany and Jorah about Rhaegar. And when Dany says that Rhaegar was the best, Barristan mentions that beating knights at a tourney with a lance is not the sign of a great fighter.
And you're also discounting something. A war hammer is like the perfect weapon against plate armour, while a sword is a sub-par weapon to fight against any armoured knight. Robert only has to get in that one good hit to kill or incapacitate his opponent, meanwhile, no matter how many blows you land, Rhaegar cannot ever cut through plate and maille with a sword. It's practically impossible.
Jaime was 16? At that time hardly considered the "best"

Yeah, him being the greatest knight is just this guy's way of making people comment on his video. He knows, and everyone else that's not true, but it'll definitely get people to comment.
" Bobby b" lmao ahah
Check Westerosi history as published by GRRM. Almost none of the major players, including Robert had any actual battle experience before Robert’s Rebellion since they were mostly really young men. So, just like Rhaegar, Robert only had ever shown his skills in tourneys. Now, by the Battle of the Trident, Robert had been In several battles and lost only one to Randall Tarly, but we’re literally just talking like three or four battles, as far as training there’s no reason to think Robert had a lot on Rhaegar in terms of experience. His advantage was due, I think, to size, strength and weapon of choice.
Jaime only was only in three battles in his life, first when he was 16, then years later when he fought in the Greyjoy Rebellion then one battle in the War of 5 Kings. Other than that he fought in tourneys where people took it easy on him because his dad was Tywin as well as the Hand of the King, and lotta people say he's the best swordsman post the death of Ser Dayne. Ser Dayne was even against knighting Jaime after his first battle or even letting him join the Kingsguard but Aerys ordered him to anyways. Even the White Book only had like half a page written about Jaime. The book says Rhaegar was the best knight of his time the same way they say Jaime is the best knight of his time. Js

Rhaegar is not the greatest swordsman. By this point in the series it is explicitlty stated that Sir Arthur Dayne is the best swordsman
Honestly one came armed to fight peasants, one came armed to kill knights.
A man in full plate is, with a few exceptions, basically immune to swords (they actually developed tactics historically of using a sword's hilt as a club vs armour). A warhammer however is basically ,with few exceptions (specific spiked weapons that can penetrate) the perfect weapon for defeating full plate.

Robert would have been the equivalent to Guts really. Decked out in heavy armor, and wielding a weapon so massive no normal man can wield it.
Question though, who would win both in there prime Robert or the the mountain?
Rhaegar the greatest knight to ever live : didn't even fight anyone before the battle of the trident except tourneys.
Abandons his wife and children to the wrath of his father and later the rebels . Despite having enough support in kings landing to actually help them escape he never bothered and instead went to lyanna to have the promised child.
Unless u r Jamie lannister barristen selmy or Arthur. Facing Robert in his prime is a horrible life decision. Guess he thought the gods were on his side ahaha .
Rhaegar was a jerk. Poor Princess Elia and their two children should have been his last words.
He was direct descendant of thor by all means . Truly a storm born
Frankly I think Robert was probably top 3 in the whole seven kingdoms in his prime
To be honest I think he may have been even better than though, I doubt Selmy could have beaten him honestly, he was old, he used a sword which is poor against plate while Robert wielded a fantasy bs can opener like it was nothing
(Also while grrm doesn’t seem to know a lot about swords and medieval warfare, note the crazy amount of swords used by knights in late to fight, the fighting tends to be semi realistic, not Robert by feats he’s literally an inhuman god, hell the mountain just uses a big sword, Roberta hammer by description probably weighs 10x what his sword does and should be essentially impossible to use for an irl person)
Basically Robert is damn tough, he took a boar charge with no armor, living for days after and killing it with 1 blow from a glorified pocket knife. On the other hand he needs 1 single good hit to kill anyone who isn’t greatjon umber or the mountain.
Robert is extremely strong and extremely skilled, which is the crux of the issue, dayne, selmy, Jaime, and a few others are undoubtedly skilled enough to defeat him, but are they strong enough and tough enough to deal with his strength? The mountain, greatjon, the hound are probably tough enough but are they skilled enough?
Only people I think who can actually do it would be prime baristan and Arthur dayne (I don’t think current barristan could, but in his prime he killed maelys the monstrous who purportedly seems to be a good match for Robert, probably a bit large, a bit less skilled and a whole lot crazier)
Rhaegar wasn't greatest knight of Westeros in the books. He was good for sure, but far from greatest. As prince he didn't get harshest treatment from better fighters like Arthur Dayne or Barristan Selmy though. Robert was obviously clearly better too and some others. It's pointed out in the books that when young Rhaegar wasn't so interested about skills of the knight and he started serious training in older age than normal. And it means quite disadvantage.
Ned actually commented that he believed Robert to be the only one capable of wielding Ice in combat.
Do you happen to remember when that was?
I hope we get an animated ASOIAF series one day
What I love about GoT is that it's all pretty much written based on eye witness accounts or maesters accounts of the events so what we read may not be exactly true it could be a case of Chinese whispers or biased based on the person's allegiances so we may never know the exact truth of any events that take place
That is probably what any potential prequel series would illustrate.
