This is where Asus dropped the ball with the Rog Ally for that reason I'm considering getting the Lenovo Legion Go but, not right now I'll wait few more months see if they iron out some of the OS issues.

@hubwood UHS-I SD cards can transfer a maximum of approximately 100 megabits per second; the UHS-I standard does not allow more. To achieve higher speeds, specialized card readers from the card manufacturers are required. So the 150++ mbit are scam
This is excellent content. I have a similar setup (but with a 1TB MicroSD card) and my testing shows about the same thing as yours. I am only going to use the MicroSD card for smaller games and I am pretty sure I won't notice much of a difference at all..
Can you try using a UHS II SD card? They have faster read and write speeds. I want to see if it worth getting the Prograde Digital 256GB SD card if it has load speeds noticeably better than than UHS I SD cards since it has read speeds of up 250mb/s and is $105.

I can't trust most online reviews for UHS II SD cards because people buy them and use them on UHS I readers and then get upset and give a false review not knowing you need a UHS II reader in order to get speeds faster than UHS I because the cards are physically different in how they interact with a SD card reader designed for them.

I just bought the 1.5tb sandisk A1 sd card from Amazon Canada for my Lenovo Legion Go. I hope it does not burn the sd slot like it does on Rog Ally. I returned my Rog Ally and am waiting to see the Aog Ally X. I got the 1tb Sandisk A2 for one and a half years on my Steam Deck, and no problem.
I bought a 1TB version from Best Buy. I'm currently waiting for it to be delivered. I didn't know about Micro Center having 2TB versions available. I would prefer the 2TB. Do you think it's worth upgrading to 2TB or should I just keep the 1TB and buy a micro SD card?

Hi there! I recently mounted a Sandisk Extreme Pro A2 / Class 10 / V30 / U3 into my Go...the card is rated for 200 read & 140 write. I formatted it quickly to NTFS. My speedtest results have been the same, somewhere around 90 read. Unfortunately, even older titles don't load as fast your system and in general the card feels kinda slow and reminds me more of an old worn out HDD😅... Do I need to perform a normal / full formatting cycle (no quick formatting) to NTFS (even if it takes ages)...is this causing the card to underperform so drastically? Newest updates installed (BIOS as well). Thanks for your thoughts on this. 😊
I have the same problem with a samsung EVO A2 512gb card. Stutters during any game and installing games take forever vs the SSD. I do notice that the unit gets very hot where the SD card location is so I wonder if that's the problem...

I read some suttering happens because of driver issues and Lenovo is on their way to fix it. UHS-1 seems to be the most affected. Have you found a way to recuce this effect??

The reason the SD card is performing so well is because the SSD is also handling Windows and any running background tasks on top of running the game, where as the SD card only has to handle the game...
If the choice is between getting an expanded SSD drive vs an additional SD card, i think SSD wins hands down. A lot of newer games are going to start using Direct Storage to increase performance. Not to mention prices for SSDs are now cheaper than MicroSD.
What settings do you use to start games from the micro SD? Were you able to start games installed from Steam and Xbox Game Pass? I can't even start games like Cocoon, it loads endlessly.
No special settings, really worked flawlessly. You would of course need to make sure your SD card really is a fast one. Also not a fake cheap one from ebay/China as they aren't nearly as fast etc.
One of the most important thing is, besides being an original card, to have A2 V30 certification. Most cards and readers are UHS-I which normally have a maximum throughput 104 MBps (+-). It is about the 2.5” HDD speed but the SD has a much faster access and smoother process. My 400 GB Sandisk microSD is a A2 V30 and works very well with

Yeah and the 85°c limit on sd cards don't help. I've ran Jedi Fallen Order off micro sd card to try it, the micro center A2 1tb card, and looks and runs great. The 85°c threshold and higher prices are the main holdups with using them with these handhelds. Luckily it's not hard to keep the temps below than on the Legion Go
I formatted mine for NFTS, I don't know almost anything about PC gaming but I read that exFat will be slower since windows uses NFTS for its internal drive, so that's what I did and don't seem to have problems on this device using a Lexar Play 1tb unless it's a very large fast paced game

Yes that's totally easy. Just use your Microsoft account when you set up your legion go from the start (which you need anyway to use windows 11) and then you can just install all the gamepass games via the Microsoft store or the Xbox app as if you own them :) you'll also get 3 months free added to your account!
I mean I can't rule that out completely. Also depends on the game and the SD Card. BUt it worked really fine for me, also considering Stutters/Micro Stutters etc. You might experience more stuttering right after loading/starting the game till everything is loaded.
Since almost nobody can download withore than 100 Megabytes per second there is no difference. If you can do that, the SD card might slow you down of course ;)

the sdcard reader is limited to 100mb/s so find a sd card that is certified U3 A2 that reaches at least this speed in writting, the amazon basics ones are the sweet spot
As of today’s date 12-3-23, I totally upgraded my Legion Go except for the SD card. The games that I like to play runs slow on the legion go. Madden 24, Mortal Kombat 1, and Street Fighter 6 run poorly on the Legion Go. Has ANYBODY who plays these particular games had any success, or suggestions for better performance? I have it set on 8 GB VRAM. Mortal Kombat 1 looks outstanding on the consoles, but you can see some frame rate issues and choppiness during the fighting.

I have a 512GB Samsung Pro Plus micro SD card and the write speeds are much slower in my Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ tablet than my SanDisk Extreme A2 rated micro SD. My advice to anyone who cares about getting consistent fast write speeds is to buy a SanDisk Extreme A2 rated microSD card instead for your Legion Go device.

Direct storage isn't happening anytime soon, they have been teasing since pcie 4th gen and were cruising through 5 rn

I looked and even the highest performing micro sd cards are all rated for only up to 85°c

Lots of stuttering on forza horizon 5 on SD card, none on SSD. With graphics set quite high. Graphics on this video seems a lot lower
