Well Kotal was one of the names Sindel mentioned that Raiden defeated offscreen so him returning wouldn't be surprising.
Kotal and sheeva were referenced in the story mode, so they could appear in the aftermath

@MoonyLukeSkywalker2005 I think Ashrah is with Syzoth, and Kotal may end up with Jade again. The latter are even a thing in MKO, I believe. Maybe Jade's parents could be alive in this timeline, too, and Jade lives with them.

As someone who LOVES Kotal's Aztec aesthetic, it'd be cool to see him come back and maybe be a bit better portrayed than he was in MK11. And considering in one of Mileena and Reiko's intro dialogues she mentions she gave Kotal Shao's position, that is a possibility.
I loved his look in mkx, they were really on point even with the obsidian

Honestly don’t mind Kotal taking a break this game if it gives him a better chance to make it next game. He’s my favorite character but have been pretty disappointed with how they made all my old favorites that I was so excited for like Li Mei, Ashrah, Havik and Kenshi. Don’t like complaining and understand the concept of this game is reimagining characters in the new timeline but I’m bummed that I just can’t help but feel like someone who didn’t care about the lore just did whatever. Happy for anyone that enjoys it though.

Yo Hablo Español haci Que yo Entiendo Dynasty, pardon my French, anywho, as much as I Love Kotal and Phil LaMarr nails the Character completely and Geras is Perfect with Phil voicing him, I don’t think Kotal would be Playable as much as I want to see it, the Closest I can see General Kotal is as a Kameo as long as Plans don’t Change.
Kotal was cool. It'd be nice if he and Jade get added later.

To say something which come up in mind that I can confess is that I wish Kotal Kahn would’ve been as a good dlc character to replace over Conan.
I could see him being that empty slot between Liu kang and Johnny cage. He was mentioned in the story, he could've been sindels personal bodyguard alongside li mei, but maybe they just want to milk us for every dollar and add him in a future character pack. It still confuses me why they just haven't taken down the empty slot on the roster, it's not for create a fighter at least not yet, so it just seems like a waste right now

I never understood taking old characters that you paid for once off the next game. Then they make you buy them again on the new game. I always wanna see new characters.
During my time playing in MKX when I started playing Kotal Kahn he is tricky because I'm still trying to figure out more of his moves and special abilities too whenever I try out three of his variations.. So if Kotal Kahn becomes Dark Kotal Kahn I would definitely be intrigued 🤔 big time right there..
You showing cutscenes from MK11 reminded me that Kotal definitely needs a redemption arc after being overly disrespected in the last game. From his character trailer to the main story and especially the aftermath expansion, mans needs some kind of epic comeback.

I loved Kotal in the Mk 11. If he's back in a future DLC or in the next game I will be happy. I mean if he is more like his 11 version and not like his X version. And his skin has the green pain. (sorry for the bad english)

I think what happened here is that originally the roster was way different to what we have now and they replaced some characters with 3D era characters to please fans.
In terms of will we see Kotal in MK1?i say probably not unless WB agrees to extend the support of the game but him as a Kameo is still very possible and even if that doesn't happen Kotal will definitely be in the next title i feel like 🤷🏼

I want to push back against asset reuse as lazy. You don't have to make new assets all the time, and with budgets exploding, asset reuse is one way to bring the costs down. Like a Dragon and Resident Evil being two franchises that have done a great job at doing this.
