Changlings and Mages are kind of the opposites of eachother in a thematic way. Mages are people who use wierdness for their own ends and risk being to caught up it, while Changlings are bits of wierdness that wrapped themselves in humanity and risk losing thier weirdness to humanity.
I thought changeling, and mage played very well together. My friends and i had a very long campaign years ago that had mage, changeling, vampire, and werewolf PC'S and a couple Wraith NPC' who worked with the party. Though Mage was my favorite, all the WOD supernatural beings worked together realky well in my experience.
If mages think about the Umbra as though they're 2d horizontal layers stacked on top of one another, I think the Dreaming would be a single vertical slice from top to bottom located at the center line of that plane. At least, that's the impression I got from this discussion.
I feel like in most stories any Orphan could easily be exchanged for being a Changeling. Since the Avatar is an external calling, wouldn't the fact that they were never led to a group that shares their ideals be proof of the Orphans lack of an Avatar?
