IT ALSO SOUNDS LIKE THE USA QUALITY IN RVS IS SHIT.
AND RICH PEOPLE KEEP GIVING THESE DEALERSHIPS A PASS BECAUSE ITS NEW. THATS ASS BACKWARDS THINKING NEW MEANS LESS PROBLEMS NOW MORE PROBLEMS LATER.
WHY IN RVS IS THAT THE OPPOSITE BECAUSE RICH PEOPLE ACCEPT THAT FROM DEALERSHIPS BECAUSE THEY HAVE MONEY.
NO ONE ACCEPTS THAT FROM CARS THATS WHY THEY HAVE LEMON LAWS.

Well, the news coming out of Elkhart Indiana are known to be suspect. Not a good time to buy new, but trailers and fifth wheels built in 2019 and before tend to be well-built. The motorhome sweet spot is 2002 to 2008. Whatever you buy, join the Facebook group of the model to get the scoop from owners. And always get an inspection. Another advantage of buying used is the seller has typically gotten the kinks out. Thanks for watching.

Depends on the size . The bigger the more problems. I did a lot of research before buying mine. 3 years and no issues. I bought 2021 surveyor legend 19bhle. They aren't cheap but so far everything works great. Every campsite I've taken it to was off road and not leveled. 3 months ago on a fishing trip my camping neighbor was obsessed with my trailer. He is a mechanic for Camping World and claimed my trailer is built different. Not sure if he was crazy or telling the truth. I did notice that almost all 5th wheel have major problems with frame. Seems the frame is not strong enough to carry all the weight.

Thank you Liz for posting these types of videos. You are being very honest and transparent about a lot of issues many new RV owners have gone through. I am on my second RV and wish I would of seen some of these videos before purchasing again. the following points are my recommendation on any purchase. I also had issues that took almost two years of fighting to get items handled.
    1. Have the Coach fully inspected before taking it off the lot or even hire an inspector to bring with you for the PDI.
    2. Never take the RV/Trailer off the lot until all items have been checked. Dealers will push you to take it off the lot without a true full inspection. If there are any issues plan on not taking it home that day.
    3. Plan a "FULL" day for the pick up of the new RV/Trailer. Dont let them rush you off the lot! If it takes 8 hours to inspect and run the systems........that is what is.
    3. Hook up and turn on every device possible and let it run for 1-2 hours. Run the A/C, Heat, Jacks up and down, TV's, connect to shore power, run generator, flush toilets, slides in and out multiple times, etc. Everything test and run multiple times......not just once.
    4. There will be issues normally with the pick up of the new RV/trailer. Again, I don't recommend signing or taking it off the lot until all is fixed period. If you do decide to take it off the lot then get all the repairs listed in writing on a "Due List". Make sure you have everything in writing on what will get fixed. On the last RV purchase I had a Due List and a couple of things were minor and did not get listed. When it did come time for those minor repairs the dealer did not want to do them as they were not on the list. List everything in detail no matter how small it is! Everything!
Again, Thank you Liz for useful information you post.

1000% agreed. If you're not going to be willing to put in the time to do the researdh to understand what you're getting into, then you deserve whatever is coming to you. But as you said, you should NEVER feel obligated to hand over a payment or at least a final payment UNTIL you have been allowed to verify your purchase is satisfactory. Shame on them.

Great video, Liz! Our first RV was a Montana which we specially ordered 5 years ago (so this was pre-Covid) from one of the big chain dealers here in Florida, fully loaded with all options. We owned it for less than a year. It had numerous problems, and we were very unhappy with the build quality and dealer service. To start with, the "walk through" was a joke - the person doing the walkthrough openly stated that she knew nothing about the unit and said it would be a learning experience for her too! Fortunately, we paid cash, so we weren't underwater, but obviously due to depreciation we lost quite a bit, we just wanted to get out of it. We traded it on a Class A diesel pusher motorhome. Something we noticed right away was that the Class A had a much more robust structure and build quality. I can see how, even for seasoned RV'ers, we can all still make purchase mistakes. Seasoned or not, new RV or not, I would still seriously, highly recommend an RV inspection by a good, certified RV inspector. I avoid extended warranties like the plague, especially the ones dealers offer, there are just too many ways in which they all too often deny claims if you don't jump through their hoops! My opinion, you are better off putting the money you would spend on the warranty aside for future service and repairs. I wish Terry and Jo well and hope they are able to get satisfactory results.

I wish they had researched these warranties before they bought. They are a rip-off. Most dealerships hate dealing with warranties because they are so slow with reimbursement. The RV Wingman has detailed instructions on how you can cancel these things and get some of your money back. Just keep the warranty money in a separate account and use it if you need a repair. Also, if you don’t have a warranty, you are not tied down to any particular place when you need work done. That tire warranty issue was outrageous! What is a tire protection for? I feel terrible for these people. However, since they have had several campers, they should have known better than to let the dealership rush them through the PDI. Ours was over two hours long.

Sat down with the finance manager and the 40K camper was up to 58K, I took a pen out of my pocket and started crossing out all the BS they try to sell you, 4K paint protective upgrade, gap insurance, extended warranty, politely negotiated and walked out at the 40K price plus tax

Hey, liz. When I used too bump cars and trucks my general manager told me to tell them what they wanted to hear. Sure we can do that!!! Was also told to Allways prep them for the extended warranty and any other adds that the dealer could add on to the financing and price. Selling cars I learned a ton of stuff.
The ironic thing is the dealership would sale the extended warranty for around $1800-2400. But is only actually cost the dealership $400.00.
I remember one time my manager told me he was giving the buyer a free chrome bumper and tow hitch. All I looked at was that was cutting in to my profit. Manager said don't worry about it. After the deal was done he showed me how that bumper and tow hitch actually cost the dealership $300.00 and buyer almost $2500 for financing since he told him we needed $90 more for the payments.
Needles to say your in there ball field. The minute you walk on to the lot you are at there mercy. Never ever fall in love with the item you are purchasing and be ready to walk out. They will chase you down. Never ever put a deposit down on something sight unseen.

When you buy a NEW Airstream Rangeline be aware that the warranty covers very little. It covers no appliances, including the generator and there is a big gray line between Ram and Airstream relative to fixing something such as fixing the window on the sliding door that was not installed properly. Litigation may be the only answer.

If you like your rv and everything is working OK now, keep it. You can upgrade to a better quality tire. The slide out can be adjusted to accommodate the bottom repair you made. Be sure that all slide out side walls are well sealed so water doesn't get into the floor. Brinkley? A lot of hype as they are new on the market, but they aren't but they aren't built any different. Save your money. 3 years of ownership you know the rig by now and the DW said she lives the interior AND it's paid for. Safe travels.

I get that people like to travel and like to stay in campgrounds and it is a different kind of travel. In weighing the initial cost/maintenance cost/aggravation vs enjoyment. For the initial cost, I could go on a lot of nice trips where I could fly and stay at nice hotel/resort. A camper/RV seems like a big, depreciating asset.

But staying in a hotels and travel still cost a lot of money, I pay about $30 to $40 a night with my RV. Hotels are starting to cost about $150 a night. I have a rv site I pay about $3000 for the year. If I was to rent air b and b it would be tat a month or more

Great job Liz . I can not believe all the problems people have with brand new RVs . Most of the customers service seems to be very bad once your out the door . Listening to all the issue make you really think about buying any of these products. I have heard more bad stories than good . There always seems to be something wrong with everyone of new RVs bought and no one wants anything to do with you after the purchase. I know you can’t compare my e-bike to a RV but when l bought my bike l made sure l bought it from a local dealer so if l had any issues I could bring it right back to them . I could have gotten it cheaper on line and had it delivered to my house but if there was a problem I would have No were to go with it. As always you are so Amazing great job as always ❤❤❤❤❤

After spending the last year watching videos like this, and reading the horror stories, I was almost convinced that I would not buy an RV. In New York, where I am located, the RV dealers seem to be like the car dealers were 60 years ago. I came across RV Nation located in Trenton, Ohio. Their price on a 2024 Forest River RPod was thousands less than any of my local dealers, so I made a deal over the phone and internet, as my wife was heartbroken to think that we would not be getting back into camping. I made it very clear to the salesman that I was concerned about some of their horrible ratings, as well as the quality control problems that I was hearing about and if there was 1 thing wrong with the RV, I would be leaving without it. I obtained my own financing due to my past experiences with the finance people I have dealt with at car dealerships. I drove out there and stayed the night in a motel. The next morning I arrived at the dealership and noticed that my RPod was set up in a service bay. I checked in at the office and was taken to my RV. It was set up and plugged in. I watched as the new guy turned on the AC, heater, water, etc.. Everything was in working order. I climbed up on the roof and was happy to see everything was sealed and caulked. The slide out worked. The set up man installed my weight distribution hitch system and antisway bars, even though I bought it elsewhere. I then went into the office and signed the paperwork. I am happy to say that the RV is as perfect as I could ever have hoped for. We first took it for a weekend trip to the Adirondack Mountains, off grid. The solar system worked flawlessly. Then we put another 3,000 miles on a trip to Texas. We experienced a severe thunderstorm and monsoon like rain. Not 1 leak. The AC and furnace worked as well. Of course, the bathroom door fell off the track, and some screws came loose, but it just proves that manufactures can build quality units. Also, always let the dealer know that you will not sign any paperwork until you are satisfied with the unit. I did not hire a certified inspector because I understood that if they miss anything, they have no liability at all.

Thanks for sharing this James. Thanks for watching.

wow our dealer wouldn't let us complete the paperwork until after the educational walkthrough. They let us look at every single camper in the weight range we wanted to. All of them lol and they left us alone and came whenever we had a question. We came twice and reviewed them , and narrowed it down to 2-3 and then chose. The walk through was very very long after we'd decided, and they insisted we be shown everything and see it work. and how to work it. THEN we signed the final papers. I thought they were great, they were but I have seen this is NOT common at all.

I keep a constant guard up and feel I have to be educated in everything I could potentially buy or do to try to find the pitfalls because of the endless dishonesty out there and loopholes. I'm thankful for those who still have some measure of character out there, but this stuff sickens me. It’s best to buy a RV that’s used and never from a dealer. Let the original owner get the bugs worked out. Plus I’d never buy a extended warranty and avoid dealerships like the plague.
I bought my car new in 2015. It hasn’t been to the dealer since I got it. There was one recall and I ignored it. That part was a brake light switch. It failed last summer. I took it to my favorite small shop. They fixed it cheap. They said according to the dealer this part was already replaced once. That was a lie.

the Darco material makes no sense. Mine from 2001 has it. I ended up putting HDPE strips attached to the slide underneath that ride on the ramp. I think it's better than riding on that fabric. The Darco does one of two things: it either gets something caught between it and the ramp and it tears or it hold water between it and the plywood causing severe rot issues quickly.
The dealer took care of the exposed bottom parts so that is good. They should have also fixed the other problems but most seem to not be a problem in this video other than their own choices. Tires - they should have kept them for warranty. etc.

Might be worth the time to contact a few law firms and see if you can find one that will look into this on a contingency basis. They could run some adds in the RV magazines/websites and see if others would join them in a class action lawsuit. They could also contact the Attorney General of the state's involved to see if there is a fraud case to address. A jury trial could award punitive damages btw.

All extended warranties are rip-offs. Whether on RV's or tires. NEVER let yourself be rushed on a purchase, especially on something so expensive as a new RV!!! I really feel for these folks, but you must do your due dilligence when spending that kind of money. Once they have your check, it's too late. I hope they have some recourse with the RV dealership, but not holding out hope. This is why I only buy used and gently treated rigs, have had great luck with them. I bought a 5 year extended warranty for my 2018 KZ Connect in 2017. Last year when the suspension went out on a Sunday and I had to be somewhere by Monday afternoon I paid and they wouldn't reimburse me, not even the $500 emergency work they say they have. They aren't open on Sunday and said I should have waited until Monday to call them. Not possible with the time it would take for them to hem and haw about covering it and me being where I needed to be. But when my wheel bearing and axle had to be replaced and I had to be towed in they did cover it. So, between the axle, the microwave and the awning they replaced I did get more back than I paid for it.

From everything I have read about new RVs, the manufacturers use the cheapest components they can get. From your tire issues, is seems this includes tires. They should last for a long time. Maybe the smart thing to do when you buy one is see what kind of tires it has. If they are some cheap Chinese brand, research to fine a quality brand and get all new tires.

Most people like myself we like to get along and not cause any trouble but hire an agent to represent you. Keeps you from making a big mistake even if you do not get that rig there's another right down the road.

As a 26 year RV mobile repair company owner, the mention of NRVIA certified inspectors was a new one on me, so I researched it. Just so you know, it's a bit of a racket in itself...an expensive school to teach me what I already know and a $300 per year membership fee. This is why my wife and I are keeping our 2008 Sunnybrook titan 5th wheel, 33ckts. We purchased it new. They just don’t seem to make the new fifth wheels solid anymore. Unfortunately, Sunnybrook was absorbed by Winnebago in 2010 and they are no longer in business. I just don’t see a company out there that builds using plywood, a screwed superstructure, not welded, a 16” stacked box frame-no I Beam-, and the amount of storage space in the basement is unbelievable. Even our plumbing joints are all brass not plastic. If anybody has heard of a company out there that’s making them as good as the old Sunnybrook, Please let me know. Ok... so.... they complain about not walking through it properly, but don't really indicate that the dealership was hiding any defects. What would they have found in the walkthrough that would have kept them from buying?
    1. Manufacturer defect... not properly 4 season... doesn't seem like a dealership issue.
    2. leveling system problem... ok.. new tech often fails , but they had the drill work around and it was fixed.
    3. Sounds like their biggest issue was the tires. I once had a belt break on a tire. Manufacturing issues happen... plus tires don't last on my minivan because it is heavy. Toyota actually gave owners a free set of tires because of this issue. BUT...tire issues aren't the RV manufacturers or dealership's fault.
I wonder if they could have bought the warranty through the closer dealership.
It doesn't sound like there was really much wrong with the rv for them to be complaining about. It is only 2 years old, but I am not actually seeing photos of it falling apart or electrical switches no working, plumbing leaking, etc.

This is exactly why you need to research what RV manufacture builds a higher quality RV and especially buy from a great dealer. There are many good RV's out there, Rockwood, Flagstaff, Airstream, Brinkley to name a few. And always hire a 3rd party inspector to go over your RV in full detail before you commit and sign the final paperwork. Never ever buy sight unseen.

I heard you give a great tip i.e.
Many RV dealers will not work on an RV unless you brought it from them or if you are lucky the service your RV brand ?
Great reason to be careful when buying an RV.

I'm 59 yrs old, i learned NEVER BUY UNSEEN! Leave a deposit is good where after you inspected it and then your happy you buy it. I bought my TT 1200 miles away, 1 they didn't have our model close by and 2 it was cheaper than price gouging California. 3 years later still happy with our TT.

Sounds like to me, DO NOT get "extended warranties" and gotta be capable to learn how to do everything yourself because it's soo crazy how people have to deal with these problems and they're still able to continue their businesses. I'm thinking about getting an rv myself and I'm a little nervous to actually pull the trigger. I mean, I am pretty handy when it comes to fixing stuff and DIY but don't want to end up running into something that requires visiting the dealership and end up with "it's NOT covered under warranty".

During that same time period, we were looking for an rv and found one. They said you need to put a down payment on one so I said no problem. The salesman said I need to put "five" down, I said five hundred? No, five thousand. This is what greed looks like. They got you on the hook.
We got our rv and with a few years full time, I am happy even with all we went through. (Not quite as traumatic, but problematic.)
This is our first rv and it seems to me that after "most of the problems" are weeded out, the unit "usually" stays in one piece. I think that is where this couple is. To throw away all the time and money to make it "right," it seems like a waste to get another "problem?" Great video and look forward for some explanations from the dealership. Aloha!

Craftsmanship, and reliability seem to be the biggest issues in the RV industry.. We have had a great experience with our used Montana through Bish dealership not all RV dealerships are the same.

I live 20 miles from Illinois largest RV dealer and during Covid it looked like RV City they sell that brand and others and they were over stocked.I will not mention this dealer but easy to research. They take care of there customers well.I bought a Viking in 2018 it had a few minor but annoying bugs. They took care of them in a timely and orderly fashion.I would say not 100 percent great service but very close.

These look like nice folks and I’m sorry to hear about their issues. We are 35+ year RV’ers had have owned 8 motorhomes, a trailer, and a slide-in camper. Yes they have gotten worse over the years as they got bigger, more accessories, more slides and lighter materials. My 1996 Itasca with no slides had minimal maintenance over 10 years, but also no slides, no outside kitchen , no leveling system etc.
Our experience with extended warranties are they cover a lot less than folks think and ours through Wholesale Warranties covers about 50% of mechanical repair costs.
But still, I think it is worth having but I WOULD NOT PURCHASE through the dealer.
I love the RV lifestyle, spend 1/2 the year on the road, and will continue to do so as long as I’m physically able but this has never been an easy, carefree lifestyle. The industry does NOT have the enforcement and regulation like Automotive, never has, AND the industry sells you blue sky. Hopefully channels like Liz’s continue to help educate people on what this is really like and how to avoid money pits., and maybe this channel helps change the industry.
I STRONGLY recommend people RENT, or buy used, start simple, and see if this is something you really enjoy.
Thank you for another good video and I hope things get better for these folks and everyone on the road.
    Thank you again

Such a shame! My father-in-law owned an RV business for 35 years which always fell in the top 10 tier of Jayco dealers. Being a firefighter, I would often assist with RV make-ready and servicing units, and more than I can count on fingers and tows, have witnessed my father-in-law working until 10p to midnight, or travel 30-75 miles to take care of customer who was having a serious issue and needed help. He would do everything within his power to ensure customers were taken care of and problems were 100 percent satisfactorily resolved. On more than one occasion, whenever a major issue occurred (factory issue) occurred that couldn't be figured out locally, he would coordinate with factory and send back to factory (Middlebury, Indiana) to have fixed properly. (internal electrical, slide-out, roof, etc.). A large portion of his customer's were repeat buyers with some purchasing up to 4 to 6 times/units! Seems like level of service in the RV business died whenever he passed away!

The happiest day was when we sold our fifth wheel. We loved it but it had so many problems. We spent our vacations fixing it. These dealerships sell you these expensive RV's and then don't want to help you. RV manufacturers should be held liable for the inferior products they produce. And the scary part is, these RV's are rolling down the road, literally falling apart. Scary! I feel bad for these people. They are just trying to enjoy their lives.

Its heartbreaking to see older people so taken advantage of. People basically work their whole lives with the hope of an enjoyable retirement. I really hope social media is able to bring greater awareness to lawmakers and bring significant change and more protection for buyers.

Their complaint is that their extended tire road hazard warranty didn't cover a tire that was not wearing properly! Their other complaint is about excessive wear on the material on the bottom of their slide, which they believe should be covered by the structural warranty. Other than that, their other warranty issues where covered. Their complaint is actually about being fooled into buying the extended warranty (and a second extended warranty). These are the issues they have had in three years. They may not realize it, but they are better off than most new RV buyers

In 2011, we bought a 1997 Ford E350 class c Dutchman from the original owner.
11k miles , aluminum roof and it was beautiful. We paid 4500 for it.
I have since done a 24 Cummins diesel conversion and it runs better than any new unit on the road.
