The best part about Baiken's guard cancels? They attack you during the hitstop of the move that was blocked. Accent Core and +R are just games about bullshit on bullshit with bullshit to counter other bullshit. I love it
I played Baiken back in the original accent core. There are ways to bait and punish her guard cancels. She has super low health, so any punish will make the Baiken player reluctant to spam her specials.
the difference between baiken and testament/zappa is that a mediocre testament/zappa can get away with scrubbery. Baiken players gotta be on top of everything to be any good at all.
Actually, Zappa needed some serious skill to be good at. Testament is a very good beginner pickup compare to the rest though his defense and next to zero reversal on wake was his biggest con since it was very unconventional and needed to practice a lot more.

What makes a good Baiken different from a bad Baiken is that one knows Baiken sucks and they have to be good at the game to make her work while the other saw a tier list(or her boobs) and picked her up.
You do not play this game if you think Baiken sucks, she's not Testament or Zappa good but she forces rushdown characters to either play her way and soften there pressure or to eat shit trying to run there offense, this isn't even mentioning her effective and safe oki and great space control or her ability to take away basic movement and buttons while blocking, this character is fucked up if you actually know what you're doing
@@jonnysac77 I mostly spoke from personal experience. Baiken is very strong, but the skill gate for getting the best out of Baiken is high enough to make players commit to playing her or drop her. Hence you either see really bad Baikens who can't play her for shit or the terrifying monsters that you can mistake for TAS gameplay. Sucks wouldn't be the right word, more like demanding.

Fucking nuts. Also back then her Baku (Bind) seal supers were just singular moves on their own with different kanji. In Slash-onwards, they all had new kanji gained followups which carried over as Force Breaks. For general weaknesses, Baiken can't afford to tank hits due to low stun resistance as she needs to have solid defense. Or you can just learn to stick a Suzuran followup into anything lolz Also as Zankuro (Slaying Bane Carriage) was re-added back to her base version in +R (the back-facing spinning wheel shred anti-air), Youshijin (Mystic Thorn Array) can now be done standalone as a pseudo-DP (the chain anchor ground rise). Meanwhile in Xrd: "So she has those guard cancels as usual, right?" "EEEEEEH.....EEEEER....weeeeeeeeell...."

As a new player to this game, Sol/HOS, Chipp and May are the most fun matches imo. Every other character is some kind of zoner/trap character trying too hard to control the screen while running away or they are just too gimmicky.
I love GG but one of the things I really dislike is the varying hurtboxes / weight and the ensuing chara specific combos. In KoF, *after* the first hit registers, all hurtboxes are normalized, which means combos should work the same on any character, and that's frikin awesome. Sure it's a form of masochistic matchup knowledge but there's enough stuff to learn and deal with already...
BlazBlue standardized more and more about the game including hurtboxes (except like two characters iirc) as the versions went on, so it really seems like the way going forward.
I mean he can say this character is "broken" but he has taken 2 games off them despite them "never stopping playing this game" and him still being relatively new. In this game so many characters have good tools that player skill can trump tier list at all but the highest level.
Baiken is so hype totally my play style I hope we get her in strive. With that said tho her guard cancels need to be like high risk there needs to be a real punish most characters can get on her if she is careless with them
TBH, I would take these top 3 all day over Elephant. They are top tier but has glaring weakness. Zappa could be a nightmare but an Axl or Faust could still murder him any day due to their advantageous matchup. Despite Testament's broken ass Oki and trap, he got very weak Reversal game and his defensive option was not beginner friendly at all and need more creative mind. Baiken needs to be familiar with GG in all shape of form and she's not easy to use and could subject to losing a lot more than even Sol and Ky when starting out. Heck, a bunch of Pot players are rampaging around to kill Baiken because it was their BEST Matchup. On knockdown or a well-time flicked and Baiken are out. Elephant in Xrd have virtually no glaring weakness, her matchup was like 99% advantagous or even. Her worst matchup was Johnny and it was mostly even with like 4.8 -5.2.
I came here to learn how to do baiken combos since I play her, but the mouse pointer in the middle (even though its not perfect middle) prevents me to concentrate on the gameplay. Thanks Jiyuna.

Zappa is one of the harder characters to play IMO, you have to know like 5 matchups and master every single summon.
