    Not to be that guy but Mysterio doesn’t actually have magic powers in the comics. He is a magician who worked in theatre’s and movie sets on special effects. He then uses all that to trip out Spider-man when fighting. This movie is great and was a genius way of translating mysterio to modern times with him basically using cgi and mocap suits.

      To be fair, like half of Mysterio's plotlines are him breaking into museums and getting some artefact that gives him actual magic or something.
      Then it's just a coin flip whether he temporarily had real magic or the whole thing was a ruse from the beginning.

    Here's a great thing: If you go back and watch the B.A.R.F scene in Civil War, that laughter? It's not there. Nobody's laughing, or even snickering. Beck is so eaten up by his resentment that his memory of the situation is different from what actually happened.

    I actually like seeing Peter make mistakes. He also puts so much trust in the adults around him, when maybe he shouldn’t always do that. He’s not jaded, he’s still a naive 16? year old. So he’s trying to make these tough decisions but has no one to turn to. Beck is this amazing hero that is kind to him and he automatically trusts him. Peter lost his dad, his uncle and then Tony, three mentors in his young life and I feel like he’s so alone that he wants to put his trust in Beck, that he wants that mentor/father figure so desperately. He also turned down being an Avenger to Tony’s face, he wanted to stay small for a while, he only stepped up with Thanos because he needed to, then went straight back to small stuff. I really enjoyed the way they portray Peter, as just a kid that is trying his best, making mistakes but learning from them and hopefully soon, coming into his own.

    Not sure if there is any confusion.... comic book Mysterio has 'zero' powers. He's a special effects dude, who, by the use of movie magic effects, was able to contend with the likes of Spider-Man. The only thing the MCU did, is change Beck's backstory to link him to Tony Stark, and the main storyline. Other than that, he is portrayed fairly comic book accurate.

    James' misunderstanding of Mysterio misses the accomplishment of the movie: Mysterio in the comics was always an FX-fraudster (of gargantuan proportions), so finding a way to realize that in the MCU (now cosmic and magical) was the accomplishment, so much so that they ingeniously went back to Iron Man 1 to do so. And the fakery of everything-- or, almost everything-- just gets hammered home, from J. Jonah Jameson's fake news to the post-credits Skrulls reveal. Part of the movie's theme is how easily people are duped, from Peter himself (Mysterio) right on down the line, including us (accepting that was Nick Fury and Maria Hill). Even realizing you're being played (see Peter in the final confrontation) doesn't mean you won't get f*cked over by the lies. And such lies are often, ultimately, mundane (provable, explainable) but still profoundly harmful, especially for someone as sincere and earnest as Peter Parker.

    The banana scene with aunt may shows how his Spidey senses don't protect him from people and things he doesn't view as a threat. He trusts aunt may so Spidey sense has no need to warn him bc hes not in danger. This is why Mysterio is able to trick peter with the illusions after he gained his trust but not at the end when peter knows the truth.

    • @joeshlong9614

    • @Kjf365
      @Kjf365 2 года назад +3

      It's more like he gets warned about everything, but it's up to him to respond to it. If he doesn't think he's in danger he will typically get hit by whatever it is. Earlier in the movie he was still using his eyes and ears to perceive the world. At the end he learned that his eyes and ears would betray him against Mysterio and so he learned to "trust in the force" and listened to his spider sense properly.

    I really love Peter in this movie. I suffer from expectations of being just as good as my siblings even though we're entirely different and that actually prevented me from getting the same education as them. I won't ever reach that and the pressure I had to live with almost crippled me. Peter is constantly expected to be the next IronMan while he's 16! He's a child. I personally never read the comics so I didn't know about Mysterio and I completely trusted him because after all Peter would get some help right? He's under so much pressure, there's no way they won't give him a new mentor. That's exactly what he needs! But when the twist happens I was very surprised. Peter's decision to give Edith away is entirely understandable, especially in his position. Besides him trusting adults (which makes sense) he's just been through a heck of a lot and all this time he just wanted a vacation. So I really love this twist and how Peter caused it.
    Also Mysterio is super comic book accurate with just some alterations to his back story and being a vfx artist instead of sfx.

    I only knew Mysterio from the animated tv show as a kid and he used holographic cubes to trick Spider-man (not magic) Maybe the comics? ... The way they fleshed out his character in this movie for me when there didn't seem to be much to him had me really impressed. I thoroughly enjoyed him as a villain. Peter made mistakes, but he is a kid and he felt feels extremely guilty letting people down and yeah, continues to make mistakes. He's a kid making bad choices and as we all found out, was being played the entire time by having his trust built up by Mysterio and crew.

    The first and second Spider-Man movies in the MCU are great contrasts of each other. In Homecoming, Peter is begging to be taken seriously and given more responsibility, when his life feels too normal. In FFH, he is doing everything he can to be normal and step out of the crossfire

    I saw this movie for the first time tonight and needless to say, it made me cry multiple times. Peter is such a sweet kid who lost his father figure and has to go through all of these new responsibilities and pressures, when he simply wants to enjoy his childhood and be happy.
    He goes through alot in this movie, and I sympathize heavily with him because I miss Tony Stark too. It's not the same without Tony, man. I felt sad and teary eyed pretty often because this movie touched my heart each time Peter suffered and thought about Stark.
    And of course Mysterio is an INCREDIBLE villain! He tripped me up over and over, I was thoroughly impressed. It's amazing that they brought back the other Iron Man movies for this to create something new and dangerous that really had me concerned for Peter's life.
    This movie surprised me numerously and it's great

    Nobody who knew Spider Man went into this movie believing Mysterio would be a hero. At most we acknowledged the possibility because of what the MCU did with the Skrull. Anyone with deeper knowledge of the greater Marvel universe knew he was the same old Mysterio the second he called this world Earth 616. 616 is the core Marvel universe. The MCU is 199999.

    9:30 interesting note on flash character in comics.
    In the comics during high school and little bit early college years he is a bully. But he is a fan of Spider-Man and does look up to him. By 90s he wanted to be a hero in some shape and form so he joined the us army and some time later he was sent back home do fo he can’t fight anymore. Him and his team got ambushed, he luckily survive but he lost his legs in the attack. Despite all that he did become a hero…. As a vigilante. If reading and go “what?” This far in and don’t know heres this.
    Flash becomes venom. No troll but this did happen in comics.
    when the symbiote split off from Eddie Brock it seek a new host and found flash. It merged and created new legs for flash. Eventually the fbi learn of this and “ask” him fo serve his country by becoming agent venom. Basically he becomes super black ops, kill major targets anywhere in the world and stay undercover.

    I personally think those illusion scenes are better knowing that they're technological holograms because if he'd actually been magic I would've spent a lot more time wondering why they decided to make him magical. Adding to that, it was a fun and modern take using a drone network to achieve the feat, considering the character's origins in vfx work. As you saw in the end, Peter did have a power to counter him. The challenge is to stop believing in what you see and having the courage to believe in what the tingle's telling you.

    i think those press questions in the beginning were intentional because I think, and I realize I could be wrong lol, that the MCU is planning on having spider-man lead the NEW avengers. That's why they set up his story with tony so much, I feel like his role in the new avengers would be parallel to that of iron man in the original avengers. Tony even mentioned MULTIPLE times that he wants peter to be better than him and for him to be a better leader. Also, I think the MCU is setting his peter parker up to mature tremendously throughout his upcoming MCU journey because he's still just a kid and we shouldn't expect him to be the perfect hero just yet.

  • @ChaiNBooks
    @ChaiNBooks 2 года назад +14

    People want/thought that Spider-Man should take up Iron-Man's role mostly because Tony took him under his wing and trained him. The entire Edgame is based on the premise that Tony constantly thought he was guilty of loosing Peter and if there was a way to correct that, then he would. He is more than just an Iron-Man prodigy. I won't be suprised if in the future, he becomes central to all MCU films. I dont think he would really fill the shoes, but yes, he would have the same level of hype around him (not that currently it's lacking!).

    Peter's smart, but he's also still young and naïve lol. Quentin was super nice to him and he was working with Fury, who seemed to trust him... It's still a bit of a stretch, but I don't think it's that unbelievable exactly... He's made other bad calls before too, even if they weren't as bad... Not that I don't agree at all, but I don't think it's that big a deal (in the sense of ruining the story or whatever).

    While I do like seeing Peter make mistakes, I do agree that the movie tried to push it onto him too much. It felt like it was written where characters were telling Peter "be like Iron Man", rather than Peter naturally pushing himself to do better. Don't get me wrong I like the concept, but I wish the "issue" of him stepping up to Iron Man was more rooted within Peter, rather than how other ppl see him. It'd be a lot more interesting to see Peter putting pressure on himself and actively try to get to that level and making mistakes through that, rather than his character being more passive and having outside characters like people of New York and Nick Fury telling him he should be like Tony. A little too much telling us, rather than showing us his conflict.
    If they fixed that, we'd get A LOT more perspective on Peter and it'd honestly probably bring it closer to Spider-Man 2 level of great storytelling. Also, I wish he said "Spidey sense" at the end rather than Peter tingle cuz it kinda took away from the moment

    I like your discussion about the inconsistencies with the characters. I have trouble seeing Tony Stark saying "For the next Ironman ", even though I can see him give Peter EDITH. I was wondering if that inconsistency was more related to the knowledge that we gain about Fury in the post credit scene (which I assume y'all watched). And based on Ninetailbrush's comments about responsibility, I am wondering if y'all have seen Good Will Hunting? Now would be a good time to watch it 😉
