Another fun video, an excellent way to finish the old year, it is indeed closure. Wishing you and yours everything you wish yourself for the New Year! See you in 2024!
Thank you for this video. I love closures but struggle being creative and thinking of new ideas..thanks again for the inspiration! You are the best Nik!
Hello 🤗 Thank you for sharing this video of different kinds of closures for books that I will bind Wishing you a Happy Wonderful Merry New Year 🎊🕛🎉🌹☺️💌🖌️🎨📚🦄🤗❣️❣️
I love the beauty of an elegant tied bow best, but it’s fun to try other options. Thanks for sharing some fun ones. Especially love the big button elastic one. So simple! 😎😎😎
Some great ideas for closures. I love all of these. I tend to use seam binding loose but should have a go at different ones. 'Happy New Year' to yourself & families, wishing a good year filled with fun and laughter.
Love the example of a button with a shank. I have my grandmother’s collection of buttons, which is 80-100 years old. I have some beautiful buttons but was unsure how to attach them to my journal. I was so excited to find her buttons. They were stored in old metal coffee cans.
Hello Nik, thanks for sharing your ideas for book closures, you're always a wealth of information. I pray that 2024 is going to be a miracle year for you 🌹. Big Hugs young lady. Take care and God bless you and yours. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
I love that you dedicated a whole video to this! I'm always looking for different closure ideas! Actually, in the smallest book you showed in the beginning, I thought it had a different style closure; one involving the metal rod? On the front of the book. I was thinking that the metal rod/long button/ something like that could be glued/sewed vertically on the front, only in the middle of it, and then a ribbon/string could be used similarly to the circle closure or the shank button closure, and maybe you'd criss cross the ribbon over the metal rod (sort of like when you have a coin pocket with a two circle closure).
So many ideas and so little time! I have 22 4 x 4 inch book covers on my table right now to make 11 books. They are made out of 4 inch square cardboard coasters that I bought on amazon. I have a package of wooden ones also. I covered them in origami paper and am doing different kinds of bindings on the book blocks for each one. Practice, practice, practice. Now I have closures to practice with also!!! Thank you!
Cool tips......Closures are my biggest problem, probably because I forget about it until the journal is done.....However, you have shown some problem saving tips......Thanks for sharing.....😻 I hope you had a Merry Christmas 🎄 and a Safe and Warm New Year 🎆
Great inspiration. I have quite a few handmade ceramic buttons that I should make use of. Hope your cough clears up quickly - I had the dreaded lurgy all over Christmas so I can sympathise as I’m still coughing quite a bit. Have a very happy new year! 🎉
I didn’t really understand how you would attach the button (I have so many pretty old fashioned buttons). I would love to see more suggestions with the option to combine a pen holder or using the pen as a closure, ❤️ but thank you so much for sharing, I love everything you do, you’re my hero!
Have you seen the closures that look like a pen loop on the cover? And the modification with a pen loop on Front AND back covers, one above the other, so that when the pen is fed through BOTH of them it acts as a closure? That's one option I find interesting. Another idea I like is having more than one writing implement, and having them protected. Like probably a larger flap on the back cover that includes multiple pen loop or pockets where the back cover when open allows access to pen, pencil, highlighter, paintbrush, fountain pen etc, and when closed it wraps around the exposed page edges, over the front cover to fully enclose the pages
Hello! Usually to attach a button, i punch 2 holes in the cover board about 3-4mm apart where I want the button to be. Then, run some thread/twine thru one hole, then thru the button shank (or holes) then thru the other hole and tie the ends together or glue them down to the inside of the book cover.
Hey Nik, firstly, you are a creative wonder of the world, ❤!!! Secondly, what is the very first closure called? The one on the vintage geography book? Thank you for inspiring me with each video!!! ❤🎉❤ and Happy New Year!!!
Great video! Fun ideas! I often use detachable closures, but I have also used the button on an elastic many times. I’m always looking for easy closures ideas. I’d love you to do another follow up video. Thanks again! And Happy New Year! 😃❤️
I like the different ideas for closures. I've used the wrap around seam binding, the twine & circle and the elastic options. These have all been small folios. The elastic, I folded it in half, tied a knot and put it through the middle hole where the signature was sewn in. This way I could wrap it around the booklet and keep the elastic attached. I wouldn't use this method for a regular book. EDIT: I'm glad that you seem to be starting the new year in good health.
I like all of them and the video was very informative on a couple I haven't tried before. What's your best guess or recommendation for adhering a foreign coin on a closure for a travel journal? I'm guessing the string wrap-around closure would be the best way to show off the coin but I'm not sure of the strongest glue to use to adhere the metal to any surface that wouldn't just pull off given the slightest tug. I'm happy to hear you're on the mend. Good health to us all in the coming year.
2 options I can think of is either punch a small hole into the coin which you need the right tools to achieve, or if you don't mind not seeing the coin fully you could crochet a net over the coin to attach it. Just gluing it has never worked for me. Always needs something additional to keep it attached long term.
Happy New Year Nik 💕 This is perfect timing video, I have many Christmas journals I am trying to finish up and the closure is always slowing me down. Wishing you and the family many blessings for the New Year🥰
Happy New Year, Nik!❤. I have that clunky closing thing-y, and thought I couldn’t figure it out because I’m a lefty. Thanks for the detail on putting it on a book. BTW, I have been using the bill organizer that we did back in 2018. It has held up so well, because I did everything as you instructed. 😊.
Yours was the very first channel I found when I started on my book making journey. You were doing a lap book. One video and I was hooked. I cannot believe the quality of your work. It is impeccable. You are by far the best I have seen. Your knowledge and your ability to communicate to those of us with considerably less experience and talent is amazing. I am not someone who comments much. I apologize for that. I have admired you for years and appreciate all of your efforts. I hope your New Year is healthy and happy.
I like the button one, to be honest they were all great. I’m looking to learn another stitching to bind books ( I’m still a newbe) can you recanted one or a book that has several stitches that is easy to follow thanks and have a great new year.
Thanks for the video happy new year 🎉🎉🎉
Wonderful, I love it 😊😊
I enjoyed learning the closures. Thank you

Soooo many options! I like elastic for an easy-lazy closure for TNs, and seam binding for an aesthetic look on tomes. 🙂
Great ideas and examples!
Brilliant title and idea for the end of the year! Some great examples. Blessings for a happy and healthy New Year.
Wonderful ideas as usual Nik Thankyou for your company ☺️wishing you a happy and healthy new year 🎊 🎉

Happy new year Nic. Nice to have closures options.
My favourite has always been the circle and string. Someday I'll venture into the other modes you demonstrated.
