It is an understatement to say that this home is quite unique. Prahran House is an industrial meets residential home that features a vast collection of artwork in every corner. This unique idea for a residence has been met with much success as it has helped transform this building into an artistic wonderland!
The owner’s brief to the architect was “Art first, home second” and he wasn’t kidding!
The first thing you notice when walking into Prahran House is the art. It’s on every wall, in every corner, and it makes up almost the entire interior of this unconventional residential home. Previously an underused industrial warehouse from the 1920s, this house has been meticulously transformed by Melbourne based architecture firm Techne to feel like a gallery and not just any old gallery but one that is positively brimming with life and creativity.

WOW. I have been searching for a video like this for so long so I can show my husband what I mean when I say "I want our home to look like artists moved into an ancient industrial factory turned house." We are both artists, and we are currently renovating his childhood home in Hungary, which is well over 100 years old. Until now, I've only been fantasizing about realizing my own visions but I had no references to go from. I want an unmistakable industrial interior with a fusion of eclectic bohemian. I want to marry the minimal utilitarian of the industrial with the maximalism of the bohemian, so they meet somewhere in the middle, not unlike my husband and I. Being artists ourselves, we are forgoing a traditional living room in order to build a custom studio in the heart of the home. And even though I still don't have walls to hang any art on, I've started collecting originals from around the world to display in our home gallery. This video is SO BEYOND inspiring, my jaw dropped. I'll be using this to direct a lot of my decisions moving forward. I thought I was doing something entirely unqiue, but I'm humbled and so happy to realize that I'm not! Your walkthrough was a little fast for me, but I really appreciate how you talked about the artwork and named the contributing artists - that was really special! Thank you! This is an art collectors home, whereas my husband and I are actual artists. The main difference in that statement is money lol. So our home will be completely different based on budget limitations but not on creativity and functionality. This is a little too dark and moody for me, but I love the vision and I will be referencing this often. You won yourself a new Sub. Thank you again! ♡
Even in daylight is quite dark, i wish the ceiling more bright to scattered the light to enjoy the awesome piece of art works. Wish everyone read this comment will be successful to purchase their dream house as big as these... dream big, cheers.

the perception that the architect had into the client’s perspective, it’s really impressive. I love many factors, but i think that maintaining the original facade it’s the coolest of em all.

I love how the artwork downstairs had isolated pieces a few inches off the ground leaning against the wall, supported, so that the pieces don’t touch the floor, respecting the art and artist.

WOW! I’ve been binging on these home views all over the world , this is easily my favourite. I know not much of art though it all works so well. Also being behind the original walls like a secret. As an artist, I'm absolutely in awe about how much character this home has. Even if a few things are not "to my tastes", the sheer amount of confidence and flexibility the owner has in composing the ambience around certain themes makes me like it. I feel like applauding the honesty of it all. It's maybe more revealing about oneself than parading around in nude, and it's like the whole house goes "So what?". Bravo.

It IS all about the art. I liked your analogy re Alice in wonderland. Those high-walled private historic courtyards and art enveloping everywhere were stunning. Everything was put together in such a unique and nuanced way. It must be a joy to wake up to every day. Thank you for showing some of the art work, I would have preferred more lingering……the owner, or artist talking about some of the artwork too.

The artwork is spectacular (pause… breathe…) and works so well in each space. A visual & tactile feast wherever you go! You can literally tell the house has been designed around the art. What gifted architecture to deliver the clients’ vision so well.

Wow, this home had a really nice balance of architecture and artwork. I noticed there were extra lights turned off around the house, I’m curious to see what the house looks like at night.

OMG! OMG! I have never fallen so completely in love with a place, ever! I watch a lot of house and apartment videos and some I think are really great, but this place has magic.
It is the combination of the layout of the space and the art both in hanging pictures and in sculptures that make it so attractive to my eye. If I were there I would never leave.

As an artist, this is my dream home.
This is amazing
I have to say, I don’t like that house too much. It’s the opposite of cozy minimalism to me (which for me is the ideal form of living). BUT- I’m in love with Lucy (🤷🏻♂️), und I really love the tiles in the bathroom/ powder room. AND- it’s always a inspiring seeing other people’s taste, even if it’s not the own taste...or even especially if it’s not ones own taste... ,-).
Definitely has more of a brutalist interior. Thanks for loving our style ;) agree, those tiles in the bathroom are next level!
