The location is the only issue. Redhook has no subways and is pretty isolated from the rest of brooklyn because of the BQE highway. But the upside of the isolation is that it's by far the quietest neighborhood on the NYC waterfront. And if you work in the financial district, the ferry is actually a pretty solid option.

I know someone who lived in RedHook until recently. Where it used to be a place you didn't want to live it's now becoming gentrfied & unaffordable. There's an ikea nearby (that can provide Cash with enough furniture options to fill the space) & also a Food Universe supermarket that used to be the Fairway. The drawback is public transportation. It sucks. Only 1 bus line to the subway & biking actually takes less time to get to Manhattan. If you don't like the price there's unfinished units going for less $$$ & you can design it however you like. & if you like cruising & don't mind Princess or MSC you can practically walk b your suitcases to b the Brooklyn terminal where the ships dock!!! If you were to put this building in downtown Brooklyn or Manhattan you know you'd be paying way more.

I’m a Londoner but I lived in Edinburgh for 5 years from 2017, 3 years of which was across the road from the Port of Leith, not a busy port but still, was quiet and kinda awesome. Got to see super big ships, navy vessels, explorer/research vessels, cruise ships (smaller one) plus the (ex) Royal Yacht was/is permanently moored there, and you could visit it as there’s a shopping mall called Ocean Terminal there and on the second floor there’s a museum with a gangway to the yacht. Awesome!

    • @hunyesmith03
      @hunyesmith03 Год назад

Also, I currently live in a loft so double relatable! Mines nothing near this level of luxury, like super super far away. Although my first non air bnb/permanent apartment in Edinburgh was in a sorta mini castle within parkland that the lord or laird (in Scotland) who originally lived in the house my apartment was in gifted to the public. So it was pretty awesome, just a sham the landlords were absolute a holes, otherwise I would’ve been happy spending my whole life there! Lol
I won’t reveal which one I’m referring to but if anyone even reads this comment, which is unlikely I know, AND you know which house and park I’m talking about (also extremely extremely unlikely) then you will see how the a hole landlords turned it into a bloody holiday let/airbnb because my nosy neighbour kept bragging about how lucrative it was (since she owned 3 of the apartments and rented out 2.

Hmm... Beautiful space and views. I like it but... $3.2M for 2800 sq. ft. in Red Hook? I don't know about that. My reservations about the space are purely petty and aesthetic. For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would want an interior mirrored medicine cabinet! Just the thought of taking everything out to clean it and putting everything back in would be reason enough to make sure that it would be the first item to go. However, all those bathroom sizes are a dream! I'd flip the dining space with the living space so that the dining area would be closer to the open space kitchen. As it is now, it seems to me that the dining area is too far away. Instead of a laundry closet I would prefer a laundry space (there's definitely enough room) where all the supplies, folding, etc could be stored and done. The ID did a beautiful job! I liked all of the furnishings and the clean and simplicity of space. My primary concern though would be the cost of heating and cooling the space. That would have to be one helluva bill!

In 1981 I had some "spare money" from modelling - I got headhunted in London, where we lived, while walking down The Kings Road in Chelsea, where I grew up. I was 16 in 1978,so 19 when I bought the freehold - with 3 friends - on a vast warehouse in the meatpacking district, with a view of the rotting piers, we had no heating, just 3/4 oil drums, where we burned scrap wood! We separated our private areas with hand made walls and fabric dividers, which also doubked as screens on which we could project films during parties, which we had maybe 3/4 nights/days a aweek,we also had access to the roof.
My parents had an apartment on East 52&3rd,we also had a house in Westport,Conn. All the furniture was begged, borrowed or found on the streets.
We were all in the same business, flying round for shows & shoots.
Studio 54 was in walking distance on West 54th Street,Steve Rubel,he was always sweet to me & never turned me away or charged me. One memorable night was an after party for "Can't Stop The Music", having been to premieres in London & NYC.
I KNEW even then,I was spoiled/extremely lucky, well conected. We all loved that loft, it was vast. The only truely private spaces were the two loos. The floor was original, the walls were mostly brick with layers of graffiti done by friends.
Modeling is NOT a GLAMOROUS life style, but, paid way better than just about anything else. Our parents were a combination of horrified & proud & gave us much legal and life advice.
We subrentented to friends if we were in Europe or somewhere exotic & the mix of people was truly amazing.
When the regentrification/desimation of the meatpacking District went hand in hand with the rise of the nightclub scene, very gay friendly & being closer to village, was an amazing place to exist at that time.
The horror of AIDS - I stayed in London initially to support a best friend, whose older bf had gone full blown, with dementia & I became involved with The London Lighthouse hospice. I'll never forget amongst the many, many hideous deaths a sweet boy from Kansas whose parents kicked him out age13 & a rich man broughthim to London, dumping him the day hevtested positive.! He died blind as a result of thrush colonising his already weekend body; even with the terrible dystrophy, one could see how beautiful had been,he was SO VERY BRAVE the hideous virus & possibly the experimental drug regime ,made hi look like an emaciated Saint. His family never came, nor any friends and he died holding my hand.
How I never caught it, I will never understand still leaves me breathless today, with a case of survor guilt.
NYC, became scary,The Awesome play " The Normal Heart", became a sow of solidarity, the set, with blown up headlines, was uncompromising I had audition, but, didn't get the part in the play. There was a "clock" incorporating the number of deaths, it grew exponentially everything I went back to take friends to see it & went to the production, with Martinn Sheen & the West end transfer with Tom Hulse, many of these people attended our parties.
Graveyard humour was epidemic & my then partner after attending over 50/60 funerals/ memorials simply descided to call it quits. Visits to NYC,London & Paris. My last "visit" to it's ghost site was just pre-Covid; so hard to see what stood in its place. Selling the whole block to the highest bidder, was part of a retreat - like so many others - at the time.
I try to never look back,it's done now deal with consequences of your choice, we made an absolute killer of a deal to the redevelopment company I was slowing down on my modeling & was blest to have a place on the East side, that my parents used, rarely.
At the time we were all ecstatic & my priorities lay in Europe & most intensely in London.
Should we have held out, brought in Partners & redeveloped it our shelves? "What if's"are a way to a a self inflicted hell. By any means of the day/times we'd made a nearly 300% return each on our initial investment.
Our loft was never as bougie as this amazing property you kindly sowed us today, but, iwas similar in size. We had a 3 day moving party.
Thanks for the very happy memories you brought back; very best wishes to you&yours 🙏❤️💯😍👌👋⭐️✌️
