Teflon on those threads serves no purpose there-thats a compression style fitting where the duckbill valve IS the seal-Just don't over tighten that nut and squish out the seal.
Replaced duck bill valves to find a water bottle cap stuck in the first valve.. once that didnt solve the issue dug deeper to find about 40 wipes in the tank...cusomer was shocked.. then shocked again after i handed him the bill... 😂😂😂
The worst i ever dealt with was a transient that was on a few week long cruies with his family about 12 years ago. It was July 4th weekend, guy calls me in a panic, says the dockmaster of the yacht club he was at recommended me to repair his sanitation problem. Tells me vacuum pump runs constantly with no flush action. Asked if it was clogged as I was not dealing with that on a weekend. My area is a major tourist trap. Absolutely not clogged he said. He said the pump was found running when checking over the engine room. Asked him if he had other heads, indeed he had 3 others but wanted this repaired as more guests were boarding the next day. We agrees to the 300 emergency fee, plus parts and labor. Almost 2 hours of traffic to travel 20 miles, here we are. Initial check proves vacuum generator is the issue, also shows signs of leaking from the pump bellows. Remove unit and remove top of vacuum chamber.0 I was in awe at the amount of debris. Was completely packed with double ply paper, wipes, female sanitary things, applicators included, and profalactics. After laughing and sending a few pictures to fellow techs, I called the owner to check out the problem. The embarrassment was blatantly obvious but kept saying he had no idea who did it. It was the guests aboard a couple months ago was the first excuse. Thenit was squatters possible squatter. That was the first time hearing that one. I said we could rebuild the pump, replace duckbills but he was cleaning the box. Also I said the motor could fail as it was running for days or longer according to him. He eagerly agreed to replace it. Luckily I had them in the truck. About 30 mins later we were test flushing and adding head treatment to the system. Wrote it up, he paid cash along with a handshake and generous tip.Almost 30 years in this industry, I will never forget that one. Sorry for rambling, sometimes I get carried away, I like sharing the crazy things I have found. Take care, wear gloves and wash your hands.
We use paper and zero issues. Use the correct paper and small amount and you will not have problems.
Don't worry you will

Jesse, jeez, get yourself a box of nitrile gloves and you will be good to go to work on the head.
We don't flush paper down our heads for fear of clogging.
Get a portable bidet and never use tp again.
Gloves gloves gloves 😞
My project tomorrow....... Yuck
