I'll never forget when I went to EVO Japan to play GBVS and after hours of standing around waiting for matches in pools and no-shows, I was matched with the same person I was ranting about the heat (the condensation on the glass and the "mist"...), the crowd, and the lack of casual setups.
When we traded wins and I eventually came out ahead, I told him "which one of us really won here, you get to leave this place" and we both had a good laugh and parted ways.

the reason the line was long af on friday morning was because some folks (like me) couldnt get our badge after 8pm thursday... they told us to come get our badge friday morning starting at 6am. After that we ended up being in the line as early as 615am with nothing to do but wait in line for 2 hours.
They need to give out badges on wednesday AND mail preordered badges out even earlier.

I doubt Tekken 8 will bring this many people next year, but this year really showed that EVO is starting to outgrow Mandalay Bay. I was in that line at 730 and it wrapped around the outer food court area more than 4 times

It sounds like EVO may be starting to become a victim of its own scale. I wonder what next year will be like...

Maybe they need to start splitting games into different venues like using the LV convention center's multiple wings. This way there can be multiple, shorter queues for your specific game(s) and maybe even the casual setups + alley booths have their own area. If they did it all inside the LV con center, everything would be in indoor walking distance from itself.

Leffen is a strong player, he earned all his wins, and he could 100% beat my butt on his worst day.
But with his mentality and outward behavior I have zero respect for him as a competitor and community member. He's the little scrub that could, but he still acts like a scrub and not a champion.

I don't see how this is confusing. He's a whinier, less bigoted version of FChamp.
Edit: I do want to clarify that this doesn't mean that everything Leff complains about is scrubtastic. However, it's usually expressed too hyperbolically to be taken seriously. Except when he calls FPS players babies for not liking SBMM, everyone should call them babies.

I was there as well, it was my first EVO and I expected it to be exciting and fun but it turned out to be quite overwhelming and stressful. I ordered a name badge and they didn't have it, which was disappointing. Hours in line just to get in, and at least another hour in line for the developer booths. The whole place was so crowded it was driving me crazy; basically squeezing between people constantly to get from A to B. I couldn't wait to get out of there.
I REALLY wanted to like EVO, my friends hyped it up so much, but in the end all of us felt disappointed and exhausted by the experience. Maybe I'll give it a shot next year but I'm not sure if I want to gamble another ~$1500 on it being a good time. In the end, I didn't expect that I would come away from this as liking Vegas more than I liked EVO.

I didnt really like my time either. i guess its my fault since i went for a side event but they didnt have a singular station for persona arena until the game the tourney was played. i get it, dead game, discord fighter but whats the point of having the game around if they arent going to dedicate even one playstation for the game. evo was pretty much spending a good 150$ to have to take a bus due to casino parking prices, waiting in long 2-3 hour lines to do anything and making you realize its just there to milk tourist.
however my badge took like 5 minutes along with another friends. i live 12 minutes away from the mandalay bay and i still felt like it was a waste of money. the tourney feels like an a.i was tasked with making a video game convention

I went to the line at around 9:30am and the line went all the way into the casino, doubling back to get more space whenever it could, it was crazy. Had to wait like an hour and a half to get in and the only thing that kept me sane was seeing silly cosplays pretty regularly

  • @polkunus

The issue with modern is that we are accustomed to setups we used against other classic players, its difficult to react to these setups unless you're buffering. Against a modern having a one button DP and super you have to reestablish a completely different approach to your entire offensive game. IT kinda just blows and slows down the game. I'm also for training against modern, but its hard to find people who play modern well on a high level. I have to have perfect block strings and nothing "fake" can work. As a grappler it just kinda sucks.
A lot of our offensive pressure on classic controls is surprisingly based on the mental stack of our opponent being able to execute a certain move over other options, with modern its entirely when u press the button and that mental stack is gone. For example, u see an opportunity to do a DP, but you also have to make the split section decision if you're confident if you can execute in time. With modern the only thing you're relying on is your reaction.

Evo is more of a public event than a tournament these days... People who want to compete should be able to sign up preemtively and then they mail out the badges to you or something? This will allow the casual attendees line to be way shorter as all the actual "players" will already have thier badges before hand. When you hear actual proplayers constanly talking about "My evo experience was terrible" for the biggest fighting game tournament in the world, you know something has to change.

I honestly had to make the decision to just not play SF6 competitively for the sole reason that I know Modern players would make me boil over with rage lol. I hate easy inputs for sure but what I hate more than anything is playing against someone who’s using an entirely different control scheme than me, changing controllers is one thing but modern fundamentally changes how the game is played. Even down to a neutral level Modern players have such a huge advantage over Classic players its kind of crazy. I’d rather Capcom have either Made everyone use Modern or Classic, not the option between the two. (Also Im not bashing people who play Modern, I just don’t like it, please play how you like and have fun!)
