I'm convinced that most of the people in these comments didn't actually listen to the lyrics, "King JJ" is very obviously a character he created in order to build confidence and overcome the anxiety of rejection he has experienced his entire life. He was truly his only support system for such a long time, and worked so hard to make it as far as he did. His character definitely seemed over the top and cheesey to me at first, too, but that's because it's MEANT to be over the top, he is literally acting like someone he isn't truly. He projected all this confidence on to a what he perceived as a better version of himself. His solution to his pain and fear was to simply hide it, as the song suggests. And then in the last two episodes, we see the wall he's built come crashing down, and the pressure of everything around him finally seeping into is true self and we finally get a glimpse of who JJ really is, and it becomes apparent that that we've never seen the real version of him. And that's why I love how this show portrays the different coping mechanisms of dealing with anxiety. Everyone experiences differently, and not everyone has the same support systems. JJ dealt with it the only way he knew how and it's hard to fault him over it.

This is such a great song, you did a beautiful job with it!!! The more I listen to this song the more my view of it changes. When I first heard it I assumed it was just some arrogant proclamation from JJ, but now I think it's a rather strong declaration of inner clarity and strength from him. I found it odd that his parents were his coaches at a professional level, but learning they are very accomplished figure skaters and that his younger siblings are talented skaters as well things started making sense. I find it very likely he had intense pressure on him, not even just from his parents, but from himself to make everyone proud and not let any of his family down. He has a confident style and in the series we got a glimpse of different coaches shrugging his personality and flare off, dismissing him. So I think his theme is a rather strong declaration saying that this is who he is and he stands by it, and that he will make his parents, his younger siblings who look up to him proud.

Honestly there’s a difference between being cocky and being confident. I love JJ’s confidence in this anthem, it’s just that he may be portrayed as being cocky on the show/manga. I love these lyrics and the original ones as well. Instead of feeling his cockiness, I can feel his determination which also boosts my motivation. Simply great.
Kenny Vo It's worth it for the animation and music alone, not to mention how human the characters are. You can finish it in about five hours of watch time, so it isn't too much of a time investment. You should give it a try.
Bethany Ashley I actually did just that XD I had been hearing everywhere that Yuri on Ice was amazing...so I decided to give it a shot. Confession time: I binge-watched the whole thing! XD And I regret nothing! It's honestly one of the best animes I have ever watched. It's like you said...it's not just the animation and the music. It's also the characters: how human they are and their development throughout the season is amazing

I heard people hated JJ but i didn't at first cause the music and idk he just lifted my spirit. I didn't like yuri's little freak out at the garage. There was this one scene that confused me cause idk if a kiss happened or a hug happened.

JJ is a character that people have varied opinions on. I personally love his hamminess, but hate his condescending attitude towards more feminine skaters. That one episode really got me on his side, though, because it showed there's more to him than just being a braggart. If you don't mind me asking, what didn't you like about the garage scene? I personally could connect well with Yuri emotionally, since I understand what it's like to be overwhelmed by pressure and anxiety. Breaking down because someone you care about pushes you in the wrong way while youre already on the edge is something I understand, so it didn't bother me at all. Since it bothered you, though, I'd appreciate another perspective if you're willing to give it.

Who wouldn't be proud if they had many more wins than losses? JJ's just having a little fun with everyone else, it's not like he actually hates everyone. Yurio, on the other hand, is always mad and has been rude to Yuri since the first episode, yet no one says anything (luckily, Yurio isn't like this the entire time) .

The more I listen to this song the more my view of it changes. When I first heard it I assumed it was just some arrogant proclamation from JJ, but now I think it's a rather strong declaration of inner clarity and strength from him.
I found it odd that his parents were his coaches at a professional level, but learning they are very accomplished figure skaters and that his younger siblings are talented skaters as well things started making sense. I find it very likely he had intense pressure on him, not even just from his parents, but from himself to make everyone proud and not let any of his family down. He has a confident style and in the series we got a glimpse of different coaches shrugging his personality and flare off, dismissing him. So I think his theme is a rather strong declaration saying that this is who he is and he stands by it, and that he will make his parents, his younger siblings who look up to him proud.
Even if this comment was made 2 years ago, I just wanted to say... thank you for understanding him, because I only saw people hating him just because of the way he act and they never really tried to understand him and what he's been through so once again thank you😭😭😂😂
Honestly there’s a difference between being cocky and being confident. I love JJ’s confidence in this anthem, it’s just that he may be portrayed as being cocky on the show/manga.

XD And I regret nothing! It's honestly one of the best animes I have ever watched. It's like you said...it's not just the animation and the music. It's also the characters: how human they are and their development throughout the season is amazing

Bethany Ashley i finished it although i probably didn't enjoy it as much as everyone else seemed to enjoy it because im not used to guy on guy romance. I heard people hated JJ but i didn't at first cause the music and idk he just lifted my spirit. I didn't like yuri's little freak out at the garage. There was this one scene that confused me cause idk if a kiss happened or a hug happened.
Kenny Vo It was confirmed by the writers to be a kiss. They went conservative with what they showed, since people can be very touchy about that sort of thing.
JJ is a character that people have varied opinions on. I personally love his hamminess, but hate his condescending attitude towards more feminine skaters. That one episode really got me on his side, though, because it showed there's more to him than just being a braggart.
If you don't mind me asking, what didn't you like about the garage scene? I personally could connect well with Yuri emotionally, since I understand what it's like to be overwhelmed by pressure and anxiety. Breaking down because someone you care about pushes you in the wrong way while youre already on the edge is something I understand, so it didn't bother me at all.
Since it bothered you, though, I'd appreciate another perspective if you're willing to give it.
