      Definitely. I recommend everyone concerned about this to check out Alyson Stoner's (for er disney star too) recent essay for People mag about the need to regulate and protect children in the entertainment industry. She is trying to take action around this issue.

    The whole "I pay the bills" thing never really occured to me when thinking about child stars. It really does change the dynamic and parents have to be wary of that and know how to handle it to still raise their kids the best way possible.

      If your child is paying your bills you’re home is already broken. You should be able to provide for your child and not depend on them for finances.

    • @hydrosphere8447
      @hydrosphere8447 2 года назад +23

      @@cspan1993 I agree but I do wonder if I've been a little closed minded on that point previously. While I dont think children should have that responsibility and absolutely should not be exploited, if they come from a background that isn't priviledged enough to have 2 parents and stable finances, if you choose to support your child in their dreams at that age then the parent may well have to sacrifice their own job to be able to take the child everywhere they need and supervise etc. Obviously, using their earnings is very unideal but if they have sacrifice other sources of income to support them then the line gets a little blurred regarding the child's earnings paying the bare minimum needed to continue supporting them/siblings only. But the child would absolutely need to understand the situation and make that choice themselves.
      There's obviously the bigger question prompted of should parents as the responsible guidance (in theory) allow their children into child stardom when we've seen how damaging it is but disregarding that question for now - is it too priviledged to assume that parents should be able to still finance their lives, if they have to give up their own full time jobs to support their children..? If its unacceptable as a blanket rule then its yet another difference that makes it even harder to be successful if not from a wealthy family...
      I think its perhaps not as simple as we'd like it to be.

Unfortunately she died in 1969 but I feel like if she was still around today, she could've been a huge advocate for speaking for Hollywood childhood trauma. Shirley Temple is another one, Michael Jackson, so many people. Hollywood is such a toxic environment especially for young child stars.

These people might have been on the planet for as long as I have by the time they were child stars, but they were significantly older than I could ever be, and the fact that they’re having that conversation in a space as honest as Drew’s show proves it.

    She's obviously super talented but it's her fighting spirit I find extremely admirable and respect greatly. She's also never been an egotistical or arrogant person and her honesty shines when she interviews other people. Drew and Demi, I could hear yall talk forever. I get motherly energies of protection from the both of y'all. My story is a lot like Demis (minus being mega famous) I was abused as a child, molested, and very suicidal by the age of 15. And I remember this one conversation I had with my mother and my ex step dad, they said "You have no idea what it's like in the real world. You havent gone through half of what we had to raise yall ungrateful etc etc." By the age of 19 I would be fighting for my life. My step dad kicked me out of the house with my then former abusive boyfriend. My abuser moved me Down the street from my parents house and nobody knew I was being beat, drugged, and r***d almost daily for about a year. Right before I turned 20 he got arrested but I left the relationship with so much trauma, ptsd, multiple anxiety disorders, depression, and the hardest one for me was my addiction to meth. I wish I had people help me and support me when they found out about my addiction. Instead my mom and stepdad kick me out Again. Long story short, I'm still struggling but when I hear stories like Demis I realize we have so much to live for. My story is not over. And addiction is a journey 🦋
