I'm a native of Eugene, I think that story is hilarious. My High School use to practice at Civic Stadium occasionally. The old Civic Stadium was built in 1938 by the WPA and sawmill workers, with donated lumber from the local mills. It was never a "nice" stadium. it always leaked, smelled funny, was a tinder box ready to burn from day one and you were guaranteed at least one splinter in your butt from the bench seats. The Em's wanted a new place to play and moved to a temporary field near the UofO and the locals argued endlessly over whether or not to fix up the stadium. But, late one hot afternoon in June, 2015, several little boys playing with fireworks set it on fire and it burned to the ground in a matter of minutes. Good riddance I thought. Now, those buses, were from Iron Horse Bus Line, and several of them were as old as the stadium. Hippie owned and operated, Iron Horse was forced to sell all their busses because the owner got caught trying to smuggle MJ across the Mexican/US border.
So basically a low minor league bus trip is just a middle school field trip from 1981 🤣
When you see three baseballs, always go for the one in the middle.
Great hitting advice. It worked for Mickey Mantle.
Keep up with the writing...books, courses...great stuff!
Anto: Thank you for the ❤ on my comments. On a serious note, it is great that you write. You are a fantastic verbal story-teller and that applies directly to your prowess with the written word.
Also, the ability to create courses is a gift...it shows that you can organize, write, and create. Had to create an original course as part of my Ph.D. Q examination and have created numerous courses as a high school teacher and college adjunct.
Get an editor, tighten up any rough passages and try to publish. Certainly, a publisher will be interested in both your stories and your instructional lessons.
Mental approaches and infield play are topics that the public would both enjoy and learn from your experiences.
I have to agree with Christopher. You really should write a book. I’d buy an autographed copy for sure. You should called it DFA’D: The life and times of Major League Baseball player Matt Antonelli
That pic of that rusty bus is too funny. Love your videos Matt. People don’t give you enough credit on your humor.
Thanks!!!
Sound like a good time Matt.
We never had a" spiderman",but in college,we traveled on a bus that was literally a "school" bus, that had the slide down windows, and we had a guy that would sneak in a side chew of, like Red Man or Levi Garrett,; juice it up,them spit out the window. The speed of the bus would create this"vacuum effect",and come back into the back of the bus, spraying several guys. Thoroughly disgusting! But when you're 19-20 years old, I guess it's kind of funny, at least back then.
Hey Matt, thank you for the hilarious video. I didn't have the same experience, but you brought back a lot of memories. I was the driver known as "Backroads Bob" with the single A-short season Salem-Keizer Volcanoes from 2008-2016. Out of those 9 years I was their away driver for 8, and I really enjoyed being a part of the team those years. Thank you again for the memories.
Regarding the ballpark, it sounds like you were describing the Oakland Coliseum!!! 🤣
HAHAHAH I was about to type about how disappointed I was there was no mention of Spider-Man , and lo and behold you managed to get it in there. Never change anto 😂😂
Can’t leave that out!!!
I'm surprised they don't make the players hitch-hike to road games.
Matt, if you published a book, I’d buy it!
That was interesting. I've been lucky enough to meet and talk to a hand full of ex MLB players and they always seem to have interesting stories.
Can you do a video and maybe even with pictures on the best and worst minor league parks you played in?
Sure!
My sister went to Wake. Winston-Salem was such a nice place to visit. So much early American history!
I agree!
Silly to ask can you do a video of how AAA baseball postseason works I am a season ticket holder in Las Vegas I know once the AAA season ended for about two three weeks there were some players I guess I don't know if they were on the 40-man roster but some guys were still the ballpark working out BP field practice whatnot would they still be on the 40 man or all those players be called up that might be lingering from injuries what would the deal be if they're not getting paid why would they want to still partake in baseball if they're not on a roster ?
I Sure hope they play music for them on the bus and in practice
Nothing worse than trying to sleep when there's Reggaeton
You are hilarious!!!!🤣🤣🤣
In AAA now the rule is if the trip is over 550 miles you must fly instead of taking busses.
I would give anything to go through that suck to play baseball as opposed to the suxk I went through.
I bet he can get them published now.
Poor Dirk got spidermanned!
What's is like when a manger or player gets ejected?
Ask Bobby Valentine.
At that point I would just try to find my own transportation
On minor league money? Forget it.
Good luck on $1,200 a month
What’s your favorite reggaeton song 🎵 🎧 😂
SPIDERMAN
Spider-Man sounds like Giles
I agree that it sounds like him, but I don't think it was him. Matt has always had great things to say about Giles.
Lol Hazing has always been fun even if it was for to yourself! It's just a stupid bonding experience athlete's in the past did. Nowadays everyone gets butthurt and whines LOL. Great story Matt
There’s good hazing and bad hazing imo. Like hazing when I played hockey in high school was the freshman picking up pucks, filling the water bottles, and putting the bags on the bus. That’s a good type of hazing.
@@MCKevin289 Same with my football team. Even tho I played QB for varsity I had to do all the grunt work LOL. But baseball was another story, those dudes got wild when we'd go to Fla for spring break 🤣
Can you just fly to your destination and meet the team.
Not with a minor league salary
Not on $1,200 a month
the seats are not comfortable the teams should supply limo buses
That’s what I’m talking about!
Pretty sad when you got better bus in college then the minor league
Can i have your autograph
If the US were not a third world country you could have sat on trains
